What exactly happened to Kamen Rider Gaim?

Well in comparison to past Taisen movies (including Shirakura's 1st Movie Taisen with Decade & W), they clearly put forth more effort into putting the movie together.

Especially by gathering 4 main Heisei Rider actors AND 3 veteran Showa Rider actors in out-of-suit appearances INCLUDING Hongo Takeshi himself, you can see that the production staff was willing to put more money on the line in the production of this movie in comparison to years past.

Unfortunately, the plot was still MEH.........but that's because no amount of money will cause Shirakura to ever hire any head writer to come up with a more rational plotline.

I question if another writer could do any better than Yonemura and it's maybe just directives from higher ups screwing the movie.

Shirakura had 4 head writers responsible for writing Kamen Rider Decade.........I don't see anyone giving any of these writers props for their work on this show.

As matter of fact, people always trash on Decade for the shitty plot.....which is basically held responsible for both the head producer and head writer.

Since the series of Decade and its movies DID NOT have a single head writer that the other writers modeled their scripts after, that leaves one other common denominator........Producer Shirakura.

Especially for Kamen Rider Taisen's plot, it was clearly Shirakura pulling the strings of how he wanted the plot to be written with Yonemura throwing in his own style into the script here and there

For the main director he seems to be MIA for the majority of the episodes! Did Takebe dump him or is he doing stuff behind the scenes?

It's probably behind the scenes stuff. On any given tokusatsu, a head director is only going to direct about 1/4 of the show.
