What does the fanbase in general think of Kamen Rider Blade?

He gets little credit because he was written to be one of the most annoying and unlikable cast members of the show. It's like they wrote his character to be a 14 year old with ADHD but couldn't follow through on it. Not to mention he makes a better woman than he does a man. Oh, and that fashion sense is down right horrific. There should be a law against his clothing.
I did say it was understandable why he doesn't get it, but the credit is still due. He did have a few moments on the rare days Wizard was being written well too.

I think Isaka's arc (5-15 eps) is probably one of the best arcs in Kamen Rider ever. First Leangle episodes are ok too, but after 20s started, I felt that show had lost some major element. King Form debut was pretty good and overally last 12-15 eps also were really good, but... I don't know. For me, Isaka's part is still the best. It was kinda... unusal for Kamen Rider. In a good way. It felt refreshing.

I honestly don't know, how can anyone dislike anything, that got UltraSeven in, but I guess show could have been much better, if they put more effort in character development or complex storyline. Still best finale ever.

Funny thing, I feel Gaim took a lot of inspiration from Blade. Maybe even more, than from Ryuki, 555 or other early Heisei.

Funny you should mention.
I was sooooooooo bored with the first episodes of Blade, and I was just about to drop the show, but the Isaka/Tachibana arc was so amazing that I couldn't stop watching.
It might be the best arc this show had, because it actually developed Tachibana's character (or so we thought)

I always hated how the writers treated Tachibana. He was one of the most interesting characters in the beginning of the show. Then after the Isaka arc, he became a background character that the writers would occasionally use for random Rider vs, Rider fights.
It didn't make it better that he was first written as the character who didn't trust his own organization, only to become a lapdog of it later.

At least his final scenes were amazing.

The Isaka arc was definitely a fantastic one.

Some of my favorite episodes of the show include the two parter with the Wolf Undead. I love watching the bike chases that occur in those episodes. Another thing I love about Blade is its use of cinematography and camera angles. Scenes like when the Elephant, Wolf, and Orchid Undeads are confronting each other is pretty awesome. As is the scene when the Orchid and Eagle Undeads are discussing their plans with the big neon sign behind them being reflected in a puddle.

Well TC, our opinions are both aligned and opposed. I too despise Blade's characters, their pitiful excuses for "arcs", the general meandering lack of focus that plagues the first 25 episodes or so, and the incredible lack of reason the characters base their decisions on. The first 10 episodes where they were establishing the world especially.

What reason did those characters have to think any of the things they thought? Why was Garren supposed to have destroyed the facilities? Why was the comic relief character so racist against Hajime? Why did the chick think that her father was the one that let out the Undead? Sure she was right, but that's not because she gave it an ounce of rational thought!

And add to that the fact that I HATE the fight choreography and use of special effects. It's all flash and no substance. None of the hits feel "real", it's just a lot of sparks and not a lot of impact. And I hate the card system EVEN MORE. It's hard to pinpoint what I don't like about it, but the best I can figure it's to do with how atrociously it interrupts the pacing of fights. They have to pull out the cards, show them to us, slide them one by one, do a pose...ugh. Other shows do that too, but they do it with better flow. Decade actually did cards RIGHT (the only thing it did right).

But what's more, they have all of these card combinations...and they use the same ones over and over! Even in situations where there is NO REASON to use that particular combo! WHY would you use the Genesis/Fire/Kick combo as a head-on attack when the entire point of the Genesis card was to be deceptive? It's not like both images perform the attack, one of them disappears! It was lazy and stupid and I hate it.

BUT, having said all that...like a light-switch, one the show hits Jack form I absolutely love it. Love, love, love it. The action gets better, the characters get more intrigue and development that make sense and flow from one event to the next...it's just all around better, great even. And the ending is my absolute favourite in the franchise. It's the single best solution, it's the one I thought of when trying to figure out how they can get out of a roach apocalype. It was brilliant.

So my feelings are mixed.

Kotaro hating Hajime was because he was an Undead. And since the Undead are terrorizing the country, that was his reason to hate him. People just randomly hate a person from a different race just because. Why should he have to have a reason to hate Hajime for being an Undead?

Decade was when I thought Rider should give up the card motif. You did it twice. Move on. But at least it was modeled off an arcade game and made some sense. Goseiger was even worse.

WHY would you use the Genesis/Fire/Kick combo as a head-on attack when the entire point of the Genesis card was to be deceptive?

Yeah, especially considering there is no Genesis card.

I think he meant "Gemini". Close enough, right? But in the move's defense, it makes the Rider kick a shellgame. Guess which direction the pain's coming from!
