#TV-Nihon has the first eight episodes in one batch. They posted on their boards that there will be no further subs for the series as the translation staff abandoned the project.

#TV-Nihon has the first eight episodes in one batch. They posted on their boards that there will be no further subs for the series as the translation staff abandoned the project.
Fortunately though, Deadfish Fansubs has picked up the slack most admirably, with only eleven episodes here and there left to go. And given the current pace, this will likely not take too much longer.

DeadFishFansubs have a tone of the series done, I think his stuff combined with TV-N leaves only 15 episodes missing.

I understand what you mean. The first 7-10 episodes of most Sentai are pretty much used to establish the characters. Changeman starts off a bit slow but when you get to episode 17, things really start to get goin.
The main thing I like about Changeman is that the fights are pretty sweet, thought they get a bit repetitive at times but even then the action is good. I also gained a fondness for Change Robo. Everytime that music comes on and the Shuttle Base launches with Kageyama in the background screamin "FIYAH FIYAH ENGINE FIYAH!" that gets me pumped!! So imagine my disappointment whenever Tsurugi just decides to launch an already-combined Change Robo and the music doesnt come on :laugh:

I can perfectly understand how Changeman wouldn't draw one in, due to how it takes it's time introducing the characters to you. But man, when you really get to know them, the cast really kicks butt! 
I love how in Changeman, each episode gives all five characters the development to grow up more, even if some of the characters are not the focus of the episode. After ep 6, you should have some idea about what each of the five are like. But there's a ton more to learn about them. And that's what the rest of the season is for. The actors to the five characters truly do their best with their acting talents. And I think it helped that Ibuki's actor was played by an experienced veteran actor. So I think that helped them. Changeman's character development really helps each of the characters grow. It's not as in-your-face as most of the sentai that came after Changeman (which is not a bad thing. But it makes Changeman's execution a unique one).

If I'm being generous, it looks like a missile. If I'm not...yeah.

If anything, Change Robo is an aesthetic downgrade from Goggle Robo, Dyna Robo and Bio Robo. Maybe it's because it's keeping the military theme of function over form, but there probably wasn't much thought into the design, as Heli Change II looks like it was designed with Lego bricks. I like the shield, though.
Once again, I must question those who praise the show for its props and special effects - especially this scene (fast-forward to 1:43):

Well, the trouble is that until the show actually gets around to defining its characters, I am given little reason to care what's going on. This is not to say that the entire characterization for everyone should be given right away, but it does help when I have something to chew on. The fact that I had to wait until episode three to get this from Changeman is why I didn't much care for the first two episodes. The actors can have all the skill and talent in the world, but those first two episodes didn't give them much of anything to work with at all. Well, except for Ibuki who got to be a lunatic, and that was forgotten by the characters pretty quickly.

Yeah, I know. I always thought the first two episodes focused on establishing the conflict between the heroes and villains, just to raise the stakes, so that the eps after could feel a bit more intense. But whatever, not helping. After all, I too didn't care at first.
One of my favorite episodes that helped catch my attention for the show was episode 5. Just cause of how complex the plot was. It felt like it could go in so many different directions. And I feel like this is part of what makes Changeman's eps great.
I love the look of ChangeRobo. Just simplistic and well designed imo. And I think the special effects are perfectly fine.
Honestly, I personally see most of Changeman's money in it's settings. Particularly the Dengeki Base. It's humongous. It's got like a hospital quarters, etc.
