Quiver Distribution has announced it will be distributing the feel-good indie drama The Comic Shop across digital platforms next month. Mike D’Angelo decided to open a comic shop after his own dreams of becoming a comic illustrator fell apart. It feels like his current career path isn’t too stable either though: he was able to weather the pandemic, but the ensuing inflation has boosted his rent sky high — and then some flashy competition moves in a few blocks down. “WILD IMAGINATION COMICS.” They’re bigger, they’re fancier, and they’re richer. If things don’t improve Mike may have to fire his only other worker. That’s when Brandon comes into his shop…a teenager just getting into the comics scene, he inspires Mike to possibly give his dreams another shot. Perhaps together, Mike, Alex and Brandon can make it all work out. The Comic Shop stars Jesse Metcalfe, Tristan Mays, Micah Giovanni and Eric Roberts. It was directed by Jonathan L. Bowen from a script by Bowen and Scott Reed. You’ll be able to visit this quaint little bookseller April 11 on digital platforms. MIKE D’ANGELO owns a small comic shop in a Las Vegas strip mall. Thank you for sharing and posting this! I'm the writer-director of The Comic Shop, I hope it's ok I step in here and say hello. I'm really looking forward to people checking out the movie and I understand with small independent films like this, I'm completely reliant on a positive response from my audience actually enjoying the movie! It was a passion project for me based around my childhood growing up going to comic stores at least once a week, checking out everything from Marvel and DC to Image (Spawn was a favorite) and Magic: The Gathering even. Though set in the world of comic books, the movie is really supposed to be about dreamers everywhere and still holding onto your "Plan A," or trying to find time in your life for your passions. I hope people will check it out when it's available!

It seems like a very simple story. I think the idea of a small shop owner struggling against larger corporations is something many people will find familiar.. I am interested to see how the character of Brandon influences Mike. I wonder if the movie will focus on the relationship between the characters.@JonathanLB OMG this is the firt time I see a director come to a forum

I think the movie sounds like a nice, lighthearted story. I am interested to see how the film portrays the world of comic book shops. I have always been interested in comic books, so I am excited to see a movie about them.

I think it’s a story many can relate to. The economic struggles that small businesses face are very real. I hope the film does not shy away from the challenges. I am interested to see how the film balances the drama with the feel-good elements.

Stories about small businesses and their struggles always grab my attention. In this era of large corporations, the little guys are fighting hard. I hope the movie sheds light on the difficulties that people go through, and that it also brings hope.

Ha, nice! Well I figured no harm popping in :) We are just normal people too. There’s two struggles in the film when it comes to independents versus corporate, so not only is Mike’s store a small shop versus a much larger chain store, but Mike also prefers to promote indie comics that he sees as more about the art and the storytelling than executive-directed Marvel and DC books. Whether that’s true or not, eh, I am not claiming that, but Mike is counter-cultural kind of dude and he sees promoting smaller indie titles as his contribution to keeping the art form alive and well.

At the same time, Mike really yearns to be creative again, to be able to draw for a living, which he now only does on the side. The movie is ultimately about anyone with dreams they might have abandoned, thinking it’s too late for their dreams, and encouraging people through this wish-fulfillment story to give it a second shot. That was kind of my personal journey, being stuck doing corporate video work for many years and not being able to direct a 2nd feature (my first was Amy Alyson Fans, which will also be distributed again by Quiver after it hasn’t been available for a bit).

Is Jesse Metcalfe the teenage boy Eva Longora banging in desperate housewives. Now I feel old because he is now looking older than the last time I saw him which in John Tucker must die.

Hey, yeah that’s the same Jesse! Don’t worry he looks way better on Instagram and in perfect shape, he really went all out for this role and put on some pounds even to make it more believable he could be a comic shop owner ha ha. Even still, I know we’ve gotten comments that he’s too good looking for the role - it’s Hollywood, what can you do? He was fantastic for us so I was happy.

As for international, that’s very important to me and we have people in Europe and elsewhere who want to check out the movie. I hope to have a good answer for that and it should eventually be available everywhere, even if it isn’t right away.
