Visit 'The Comic Shop' April 11

I am a bit sad what keep comic shops alive on my town these days are Manga because of the thing Marvel and DC had been doing alienates comics fans. I mean they divorced Black Panther and Storm, Made Spiderman make a deal with Mephisto to have Mary Jane forget his existence so Aunt Maye will be revived, Made Playboy character Iceman gay and make Joker Pregnant. Back to the topic, the movie gives me nostalgia of the videogame arcade I use to visit as a kid and its now closed down.

Wow its cool the director is talking to us. Hope this project succeeds

That’s really nice of you, I appreciate it! As an independent filmmaker, I need all of the support I can get. Something like this is all about grassroots promotional efforts, so it’s like you do the best trailer and poster you can and try to build some buzz. I felt the poster was worth doing the right way though and I enlisted Steven Chorney to do it. Steve has done countless classic posters for about 4 decades including the Once Upon A Time in Hollywood poster for Tarantino, which inspired ours. I just knew given the subject matter, we have to have an illustrated poster. And in my mind, it had to look great, to honor the art form and put our best foot forward.

The dad is like my dad in real life who ruins my dream of becoming a singer and forced me to med school. In the case of this movie its comics illustration instead of singing.

This is not a role Jesse I expect to play but I guess he accepted it because for once he can keep his shirt on.

Okay, I’m geeking out over The Comic Shop! As someone who’s spent way too many weekends at comic conventions—yes, including San Diego Comic-Con—this trailer is everything I love. Mike D’Angelo’s struggle to keep his shop alive while dreaming of drawing comics? That’s so relatable. I’ve been collecting since I was a kid, and I’ve met shop owners like him who pour their hearts into these places. Seeing Jesse Metcalfe play this role is wild—I didn’t expect him to pull off that scruffy, passionate vibe so well. And Tristin Mays as Alex? Perfect. The pandemic angle feels real; my local shop nearly closed too.

I’m glad to know there are other people out there who can relate to the movie and are excited for it! I think you’ll enjoy seeing Jesse in a different role, he really worked hard for the movie. Shot every day but one! I cast Tristin because I thought she was perfect in MacGyver’s reboot and had the right attitude and fiery personality to pull off the role. I felt like all of the attention goes to comic book movies and TV shows, with none of it going to the artists who first brought these characters to life and allowed them to become important to so many people. Without the comics and the stores that sell them, we wouldn’t have the MCU or DCEU.

WOW! This is a very relatable feel-good movie.
I can even think of real-life examples for the characters.

Like Brandon, for example.
Once upon a time, one of my supervisors told me a funny story. He had a hunting buddy. One day he stopped by his house for a visit and he heard music. His friend said: “Oh that's just my son. All that boy does all day is play his guitar and sing.”

“That boy” turned out to be John Denver.

Take Mike, for example.
A website for art lessons? DEAL! My late mother taught me the power of bartering your talents. We lived on welfare in low-income housing yet my mom sent me to a private school. In exchange for making costumes for all of the kids in all of the school plays, I got to attend a private school. I even remember kids from my school coming to our house and my mom taking their measurements for their costumes.

I'll bet lots of viewers will relate to “The Comic Shop”. Besides. Don't people still like to read comics? I do!

Jesse recorded segments today for both E! and Access Hollywood. They should air the week of April 7, just before release. Almost the whole cast will be in attendance at the Beverly Hills Film Fest on April 5, I’ll be there too along with the producers, even our wardrobe head. Should be a lot of fun! If anyone is in LA (tickets are on their Website). Unfortunately I learned today Trevor (Chad) can’t make it, but almost the entire rest of the cast will be there and tentatively even our legendary poster artist Steven Chorney! I wanted to invite him because he lives just up the hill and I never have met him, we did the work remotely back and forth. He’s such a nice guy though.
