Here's the thing, Next, there really is no contradiction between religion and science. The Pope has gone so far as to admit that evolution happened and that's how life came about, because there's such a solid scientific grounding for it. But that doesn't mean that god couldn't be the why.

Personally, I'm an atheist, but I'm pretty cool with other people's religious beliefs as long as they don't force them on other people-- and that includes atheism. Everyone needs their own source of personal strength and inspiration.

Incidentally, my wife is a biologist specializing in ecology and evolution, and she has less of a problem with young-earth creationists who say "yep, stuff just sprang ineffably into existence 6000 years ago, because the bible says so" than the "Intelligent Design" people who are trying to "prove" creationism through "science." Really really pathetically bad, "we just say this so it must be true" pseudoscience. At least most of the young-earth creationists are basing it on faith alone and not trying to make it consistent with actual scientific evidence.

I've never understood why religion fights science so much instead of just accepting a world that God made that science works in.

It just explains the stuff made by God. I don't see the contradiction.

You should stop caring then about people that insult what you believe in. Just believe in what makes you happy.

Everyone has an opinion or a belief. There's going to be people with different ones and you just have to let them have it. If the atheists or whatever shun your way of thinking, The Next, best thing to do is just let them and go on with your own life.

The problem is you have too much pride in what you believe. Sometimes, you just have to let go of it in order to be happy.

I think part of the problem here is the Christian doctrine of convincing others to join you in the movement. That's why he feels offended.

And Keith-sama...in terms of the conflict between science and Religion....It's probably because of the whole "World Created in 7 days" in the book of Genesis.

The Theory of Evolution is an example I am going to use.

I, for one, am starting to see inconsistensies with the Creationist theory, which states that animals are a certain way "because God made them to be that way".

However, based on scientific observation made over the years, Many animals have evolved over time to adapt to certain environments. Why this is so, the creationist theory cannot really explain.

So In my view, Science AND God do go hand in hand.

To me, believing in God should be more important that ignoring reality. I get what you're saying, but I was Christian once too. Catholic.. dabbled in Lutheran and as I grew up I just found now cause for denying science and reality. And NEVER did it make me think, "Oh crap! Maybe this disproves God!" It was always to me, "Oh... well, I guess this is how God made the universe."

What's the point of holding on to litteral translations of the Bible? To what end? I can keep the two seperate and equal and existant without even breaking a philisophical sweat.

You are a man after my own heart, Keith. I fully agree.

The question is though, The Next, do you acknowledge what everyone else it trying to say? You seem happy when someone is saying what you believe in, but angry when someone else holds a different philosophy. You have got to let people believe what they believe and hopefully they will do the same for you. That is what I go by, as I am a Muslim living in the US where the majority is Christian. Ive had plenty of intelligent discussions with Christians and Catholics about religion and in the end, we just went to the notion that you believe what you believe and I believe what I believe and not to try and push each other to one way or the other. Its all about acceptance. Not everyone in the world will agree with you. You have to learn to just accept it and move on. Back in high school we tried to see why a friend of ours was atheist but it didnt go anywhere cuz we all believed strongly in our opinions. People will change their minds only when they want to or see a need to look at other opinions for answers. You cannot force it. So, all these people that are ragging on you for being Christian are the minority who just wanna screw with you. You gotta just brush that off and go on believing in what you believe.
