[CASTING CALLS] Vanguards of Hope (Sentai, Riders, Cures)

Easy now, Armstrong.

I find this idea really interesting and, in a challenge to both you and myself, am working on a Decade character. Unfortunately I'm sick as hell at the moment so it's gonna take a bit of time to get it up to par. On the up side, this actually kinda works from a story perspective given how certain aspects of the backstory play out.

Methinks, Double-Z just managed to scare everyone away from this thread. ._.

But, nah. There's no real reason to make Alice's Cosmic Lord a Time Lord. Let's not overdo things now.

:laugh:I just think it's funny and hot-blooded enough to actually be motivating. Can't say it will be the same for the fairer sex, though:sweat:.

Hmm, having trouble with my Rider character. In an effort to come up with a unique concept and background, I'm trying to not go to the basic theme and premise of the Kamen Rider concept, or at least put a spin on it and make it different enough from the original premise. And I ran up to a wall, and realized just how unoriginal I am. BUT I WILL NOT WAVER!! Even if unoriginal, I will write up a good character!

Question for ZZ: can I make my character's bio less detailed? The personality will be detailed, but can I not basically explain everything about him? At the very least not detail, but just state the way he obtained the power(as I would like to have him obtain it at the start of the RP). Of course, if you prefer to have the entire pitch out in the open, even stuff that will come about in the coming RP, I'll oblige.

Alright, Here we go. I have dug into my inner determination and courage (and some rage) and put it into this bio. Hope it's good.

[HIDE]Name: Steve Jones.
Age: 22
Nationality: US citizen
Appearance:
1145799837_eyWheeler1.JPG

Alternate Identity: Kamen Rider Wizard
History: When Steve was just an infant, his mother died from childbirth and his father was killed by a mugger. With no one to take care of him, his Aunt Sora took him in and raised him. While he was still an orphan, he didn't let that get in the way of having a good future. Steve sometimes wished that he could prevent other people from suffering the tragedies he did. When Steve was old enough, he moved to Brooklyn from Japan.

Now Steve is your average computer expert, he had a job doing tech support at a computer store. He stressed himself out trying to work up enough overtime to go get a plane ticket to Otaru, where his Aunt lived. Steve Finally got all that overtime to go visit his aunt in Otaru, Japan. Excited, Steve felt he needed a long deserved (and delayed) Nap then pack up. It was then that, In a dream, a being in the form of an old man dressed up as Gandalf appeared before steve.

"Steve, you have been chosen to wield Magic that will allow you to fight a dark evil that has invaded this world. Not only that, but you will receive a Newborn guide when you next awaken." The Wizard-like Being spoke. "There will be a briefcase in your front door. Everything you need will be in there. Follow your heart and Fight to Bring hope to all who only know despair." It was then a giant egg appeared behind Steve and slowly cracked until a dragon hatched from it and pounced on Steve.

Steve woke up and was a little drowsy, he had no idea what the **** kind of dream he had. Although it goes without saying that the dream was pretty fucked up. He found it relieving to wake up again.

"Cool, Everything's the way it was. The fridge, the tv, the Lamp, the small dragon sitting on my couch, the sto- Wait a minute. What?!?" Steve looked in shock at the small dragon, The exact same The small dragon woke up, yawned a bit and then looked at Steve.

"Hey, Man. You got a really comfortable couch. That was the best sleep i've ever had." the small dragon spoke. "Technically, that was the only sleep i have ever had, you get my point."

"You're the dragon from my dream!" Steve spoke in astonishment. he ran to his front door and found the brief case that the being spoke of. Steve opened the briefcase, 1 side had a belt-buckle that was shaped like a right hand, and 5 rings. 1 looked like the belt buckle hand and the other 4 had a ruby, a topaz, an emerald, and a sapphire. the other side contained about an holy-crap ton of assorted orange rings. all of them but 8 were stuck on there as if they were glued on there.

"Yeah, most of them are magically sealed, probably due to the dark evil. They'll be unsealed overtime, no idea when thought." the Dragon told steve, whom at the moment was getting packed in a rush.

"Um, hey, You have a job, fighting dark evil, Bringing hope to those who only know despair, remember dude?" The dragon stubbornly kept reminding Steve.

"Yeah, well the guy said to follow my heart, and right now, i only give a crap about what my gut says. and that says to finally take that vacation I've always wanted because i think i'm starting to go insane." Steve told the dragon flat-out.

"Being able to see Spirit dragons does not mean you insane." the dragon retorted but then thought about that statement from Steve's point of view. "Ok, maybe it could mean you insane, but I am not joking when i say i'm real."

"Spirit Dragons?" Steve questioned in confusion of what that dragon meant.

"Well My kind only be seen, heard, Etc. by their owners and since you and I are having a decent conversation right now, You're it." the dragon explained.

"Ok, to humor you. i'll bring the brief case. Hell, i'll put the rings on and the belt buckle." Steve told the dragon. it was then that Steve put the red ring on his left hand and that Belt buckle ring on his right, and finally put the belt buckle on.

"Ok, i know this seems kind of a shock to you, and im sorry about that. So, lets properly introduce ourselves." The dragon suggested.

"You're probably right we did kind of get off on the wrong foot, Crazy ass hallucination or not." Steve agreed. "My name is Steve, Steve jones."

"I am a fresh-out-of-the-egg hatchling. so you name me." the dragon told steve. "Ok, would you prefer to be named Draco?" Steve asked the dragon. He nodded at his new name. "Ok, i need to go on that vacation right now. you can come along since nobody else can see you." Steve said.

So about the next day, they got on the flight to Japan. When they landed at the airport, stood at the gate Happy to see her nephew again, Although it did suck that Sora couldn't see Draco at all, especially since Draco was growing larger by the hour til he grew the size of a truck, would've made a great story to tell her.

When they got home just at the edge of town, the trio found their home ransacked, as if someone was looking for something. Draco felt like his skin was crawling, as if some evil was getting ready to strike. A Manifestation Walked from behind the house, and turned it's fangs to Steve.

"There you are, wizard." The Manifestation spoke as it grabbed Steve's shoulder, landed a punch to his gut, and threw Steve to his Aunt, who couldn't do anything at all.

"Sora, Run. I think i can outsmart this.....Whatever the hell it is." Steve told his aunt she hid behind the Trees. Steve got up putting his right hand on his gut to cover his injury and accidentally putting it over his belt-buckle.

"DRIVER ON. PLEASE." the words spoke as a bright glow emerged from the belt replacing it with a silver belt with the hand still on. "What the- how the?" Steve was stumped and didnt know what the hell was happening.

"Steve, turn the switches on the sides of the hand and then put your left hand, with the red ring on it,over the scanner." Draco ordered.

"Oh no you don't, I am not letting you." The Manifestation charged at Steve, determined to prevent him from doing what he was about to do.
Steve didn't know what Draco meant, but he was in a position not to think but to act. he turned the switch and the belt kept singing. "Shabadoobie time to change." in a loop and put the left hand over the belt.

"FLAME! PLEASE!" the belt spoke as if a red fiery magic seal appeared Steve and drew closer while the belt continued to sing. "HI! HI! Hi Hi HI!"

The red magic seal, transformed Steve, Then on instinct, Steve flipped over the Manifestation. Steve was surprised he could even do that at all. He turned to Draco wondering if this is what the being meant by guide.

"Steve, we need that brief case. Don't ask why but i think i can see what a magical item does just by looking at it." Draco explained. "Got it." Steve ran to the case and opened it, but in the rush he couldn't figure out which one to use.

"Use that one, put it on your right hand and run that through the hand scanner. It should use give you a weapon." Draco explained. Steve grabbed the ring and ran it through the belt.

"CONNECT! PLEASE!" Another magic seal appeared before Steve, He reached his hand through the seal to see what was there and grabbed the WizSwordGun in it's gun-mode. The Manifestation reacted by speeding to the trees and grabbing Sora to use as a human shield. Steve was hesitant to do anything at that point, he could've hit Sora if he took the shot.

"Take the shot, you can redirect the bullets only if you maintain complete focus on the spot you want to shoot." Draco rushed that time. Steve let go of his doubt and did what Draco said to do. Steve took the shot and the bullet redirected into the Manifestation's Shoulder. From the impact of that shot, the Manifestation released Sora to put his hand over his wound.

"Whoa, Thank you Draco, you are the best dragon ever a guy could ask for." Steve faced his dragon friend in gratitude. "Don't thank me yet, that Thing still needs to be finished. Use that ring. It Should give your kick an extra kick." Draco said pointing to the ring in the briefcase with his tail. Steve took the ring and ran it through the belt.

"YOI! KICK STRIKE! SAIKOOOOOOOO!" After those words emitted from the belt, Flames emerged from Steve's right foot. Steve had no idea what those flames were going to do.

"Sora outta the way." Steve yelled did a cartwheel and hopped into the air as he did a flying kick to the Manifestation as it exploded leaving the dissipating magic seal behind. Sora ran to her nephew as he changed back.

"Steve, What happened to you, How were you able to fight like that at all, and what was it you said about a dragon?" Sora kept asking questions in disbelief of what happened.

"You're going to want to sit down for this Sora. It is a long story." Steve said to his aunt in disbelief of it himself as he took out 2 chairs from the porch, and set them facing each other.

Personality:

Steve is shown as a stubborn man. he is determined to prevent any other people from suffering the kinds of tragedy he did as a child, As well as protect his friends and family. He often tries to fix what horrible thing happened to the best of his ability, on the condition that they would want to be helped.

Steve jokes with his enemies. Whether it is to ease off the pressure and let go of his stress to just piss them off to the extent of making careless mistakes. However, Steve only jokes around when he is fully confident that the enemy is going to be beaten to a pulp. When the situation gets tough, Steve gets serious.

Likes:
-When a ring is unsealed.
-Pizza.
-Being able to get the chores done faster.
Dislikes:
-Sadistic people thinking they can just tap into mystical energies, then just act like their all-knowing.
-When someone tries to steal a ring from him.
-When someone makes his job more difficult.
-When Draco switches to astral form While Steve is riding the dragon.
Relationships:

Sora Toshiki - Aunt: Raised him since his parents died, she was as much a mother to him as they come so Steve would help her as much as he could. She helped Steve with his wizard business by using his magic to do chores.

Draco - Spirit Dragon: He is a spirit dragon Steve obtained as a guide prior to being chosen to use magic. Only can Steve see this spirit. Whenever he see's an unsealed ring or weapon, Draco has visions of the abilities that ring or weapon can do. Only when Steve uses the DragonRise ring can Draco be seen by other people and become tangible up For up to 10 Minutes.

Extra:

EDIT: After Dragonrise's effect wears off, all of the ring's effects will be 50 percent (EX: Sleep would just make the wearer drowsy, Bind will just trap the target in rusty chains Etc.), the only rings that would only give errors at that point would be Kick Strike and DragonRise. Also Steve will only have 5 minutes to finish the fight or else he will revert to human form and not be able to change back for 15 minutes.

My starter set of rings: Driver on, DragonRise, Connect, Bind, Light, Big, Smell, Sleep, Kick Strike.[/HIDE]

Clicked thunder's post, saw Joey staring at me, unclicked it. I'll read it shortly and let you know.

Guardian07: Just PM the details to me and only make public what you want to. Same goes for everyone else. Uh....sorry I didn't mention that sooner solo.

Icefish: Take your time and get better soon. You're no good to me dead.

Solo: If that is your desire...not that one won't eventually pop up who is >__> I am what I am kiddos.

EDIT: Ok thunder, hold on to your balls. Seriously, magic balls are expensive, especially for an I.T. guy.

So your decision to do a story style bio was unexpected, but enjoyable. The character has a few similarties to Haruto, but is different enough for me to be okay with that. His Cosmic Lord appearing as Gandalf...well I can't really complain about that either, and I assume Joey-I mean...Steve, just watched The Lord of the Rings one too many times. Draco is a nice take on the WizarDragon, he reminds me a bit of a magic girl's fairy partner, but more manly. I kind of love the little guy acting not as just a power source, or ally in battle, but also as an assistant and support character. Seriously, Navi ain't got nothin on a spirit dragon. The wizardriver and rings just appearing at the door was a bit...awkward...but the Cosmic Lords can do little stuff like that. While it is fine for now, you may want to think of a more unique way for him to have aquired the rings and driver. I can probably help you with this if nothing comes to mind. The Ten minute limit on DragonRise works as well, but you should also find a way to make it a last resort ability. This will make him hesitate to use that power and also give the Dragon Styles more meaning when the time comes. All and all it is a very simple character, but one that is different enough from his source and fairly amusing to read about.

I even love the fact that he didn't over react to the situation he had awoken to and just kept packing to head to Japan. I suppose if you are stressed enough to see a phantom dragon and meet Gandalf the White, then you probably would be in a hurry to get to your vacation.

So Steve is in, and I look forward to seeing him develope as a character. I also look forward to seeing what sort of character Draco will become and how Steve's aunt will react to all this madness going on around her.

Man...maybe I should have just made this take place in the U.S. -____-

At the time you've posted Zig's didn't sound like it was accepted to be all fair. I shall go over it either later today or Wednesday (my day off) while working on the next profile. Apologize for the long wait as it is starting to get into the crunch time of the Holidays and need to be at my best at work. And dude, try to take my Skylanders is a serious offense. I kid.

Yeah!!! My muscles got Magi back into this insanity! Thank ya Jesus for my fictional mucles! And the real ones too. Take your time Magi.

For me, personally, the reason that all of my PCs are Americans is because I don't like playing nationalities that I have a limited understanding of. Every culture is different and has a thousand little nuances that can change they way that they act and think.

Case in point: you remember at the end of Fourze 30- when Yuki screamed so loud that she broke Ryuusei's watch? To us, overseas, it seemed pretty funny. But it was actually intended as mood whiplash since things spontaneously breaking is bad voodoo in Japan.

There's a lot of cultural things like that that I just don't have the understanding of to feel comfortable playing a Japanese PC. If I'm playing a Japanese character but their outlook is American... isn't that defeating the point (and mildly offensive)? That's my thought process anyway.

Here we go. Hope you enjoy!

Name:
Ryan Greyson

Age:
21

Nationality:
American

Appearance:

Alternate Identity:
Kibaranger, Ryan of the Howling New Star
(Armored Form)

History:
Raised in Texas by his detective father and surgeon mother, Ryan was inspired by the heroic actions of his parents to become a hero himself. With his parents working long hours, Ryan spent most of his childhood learning martial arts and reading about heroes all over the world. As he grew older, his relationship with his parents became strained, due to their constant focus on work. In an effort to channel his frustrations, he picked up parkour, and began testing himself in his home city. Trespassing whenever he wanted to, Ryan was constantly on the run from security and police. He knew it was wrong, but it was the only time he felt sure of himself. However, he was eventually caught when he came across a mugging and intervened to protect the woman. The thief was detained and arrested, but Ryan was also arrested for multiple counts of trespassing. When his father arrived to bail him out, Ryan was expecting him to be disappointed in him. But his father instead praised him for defending an innocent person from an attacker, despite having no weapons himself. Even though he was grounded for months, Ryan couldn't help but be happy about what had transpired.

After graduating high school, Ryan went off to college in Seattle, leaving his parents behind. With a new city before him, he took up his parkour runs again while simultaneously looking for chances to dispense vigilante justice. One night, right after his 20th birthday, Ryan attempting to disarm a criminal with a gun, but the weapon went off and killed an innocent bystander. Ryan sank into a deep depression for weeks, refusing to speak to anyone. Eventually, his father came to check up on him. When Ryan explained what had happened, his father told him a story of a similar situation that had happened to him. Ryan’s father advised him to go on a spiritual journey to Japan and seek out his old master, Isshin Matsuri, for help.

Upon arriving in Japan, Ryan immediately felt like an outsider. He knew nothing of the language or the culture of his temporary home, but eventually welcomed it, seeing it as a new beginning. When he finally located his father’s former master, he immediately put him to the test, attacking him with impressive skills that he’d never seen before. Ryan made a decent attempt at defending himself, but couldn’t match the elder’s skills. His new master explained that his depression was what defeated him. From then on, the two went on a healing spiritual journey.

After a year of healing and training in Japan, Ryan took some time to go out and explore the city of Otaru. During his time here, most people he came across seemed terrified at the sight of him. The only thing he got from them when he asked what was going on was the word “writhing”. Confused, but curious, he continued to explore, hoping to get answers. Eventually, he got his answer when he witnessed a creature that appeared to be a mix of a shark and human attacking a woman. She kept calling out to it, calling it “Toshiro” and attempting to reason with it. The creature would not listen though, and kept throwing her around like a rag doll. Ryan rushed to her aid by drop kicking the shark-man in the face. The woman tried to explain to Ryan, in broken english, that the shark was actually her husband, who had turned into a “Writhing Thing”. He’d angered the spirits by taking advantage of his coworker’s misfortune, making a huge profit from it. Her husband had become a predator of sorts, preying on the weak to increase his own wealth. Ryan desperately fought the creature, which overpowered him easily. He was given a brief window of escape, but used it instead to attack it with a metal rod. The shark-man, now annoyed with Ryan, took him by the neck and began to slowly crush his throat, taking great pleasure in Ryan’s pain. The last thing Ryan managed to say was to the woman - “run”.

At that moment, a beam of light ran passed the monster’s arm. Ryan was released from the grip as its arm had been severed at the elbow. Ryan frantically looked around for his savior, but only found a strange sword lodged in the ground nearby. The blade had a tiger head at the bottom of the handle, which began to speak to Ryan!

“I am Byakkoshinken. Wield me if you want the power to save lives.”

Ryan rolled out of the way of an oncoming attack, and pulled the sword out of the ground with surprising ease. As the beast charged at Ryan, a bracelet took shape around his sword hand, and a ringed key in his free hand.

“Insert the key into your Kiba Changer. You’ll know what to do after that.” The sword said.

With his life, and the life of the woman, on the line, Ryan quickly inserted the key into the changer. Energy flowed through his body, and took shape as a protective layer of white, black, and gold armor. With ease, he was able to destroy the Withering Thing. Ryan turned towards the woman to see if she was okay, but she ran away in tears, claiming that he had killed her husband.

Ryan returned to Isshin to explain what had happened, but upon seeing the Byakkoshinken, he knew exactly what was going on. He explained that Ryan had been chosen to be a warrior for good against the coming darkness, and that others would join him. However, it would be a hard life to lead, as everyone close to him would be in constant danger. Byakkoshinken further explained that he was chosen by the White Tiger to be the new Kibaranger, and that he would have near unlimited power at his disposal, but only as long as he kept his soul pure. Feeling unworthy, he tried to pass off the blade to his master. However, his master stated that this was the exact reason he was chosen.

“Pride is the bane of most men, Ryan. You do not let pride blind you and are humble beyond belief. Byakkoshinken believes that you have great potential, as do I. Do not let feelings of doubt prevent you from doing what you know is right.”

Hesitantly, he took the blade back, and began training even harder. Ryan now watches over the city of Otaru, hoping to heal the wounds within himself by protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

Personality:
A fun-loving, but quiet individual. Ryan hopes to make his parents proud by becoming a hero to the world. However, he struggles with self-confidence. More than willing to defend others, regardless of the circumstance, Ryan often finds himself in difficult situations and is reckless with his own life, due to low self-esteem. Unforgiving of his own mistakes, Ryan struggles to come to terms with the events that took an innocent person's life. He often wonders why he was chosen to be the new Kibaranger, despite what his master and Byakko tell him.

Likes:
Parkour, martial arts, heroes, cops, having fun, bad comedies, pizza, comics, having purpose/goals

Dislikes:
Jerks, criminals, veggies on pizza, super-serious movies, hypocrites, not getting enough sleep

Relationships:
Isshin Matsuri: Ryan’s mentor. Has knowledge of the events going on in Otaru, and serves as spiritual healer to Ryan.

Byakkoshinken: Ryan’s talking sword. The blade is his partner in battle, acting like a second pair of eyes, and making him aware of techniques that might serve him best.

David Greyson: Ryan’s father. A well-respected detective who once was a student under Isshin.

Jessica Greyson: Ryan’s mother. One of the top brain surgeons in the world. Ryan has a strained relationship with her, due to her workaholic tendencies.

Extra:
- Ryan does not know much Japanese, but is very skilled at reading body language.
- Ryan is proficient in parkour, jeet kun do, and tae kwon do.
- Ryan’s arsenal consists of the following:
  • Byakkoshinken
  • Dairen Rod - Jumonji Yari head
  • Dairinkens - Jumonji Yari head
  • Kiba Rider (motorcycle)
  • Attacks:
    • Riot Echo (Gokai Silver's "Final Wave" but with clones of self attacking instead of 6th rangers)
    • Fang Rush
    • Howling Star Strike (KR Ryuuki's final vent, with a White Tiger instead of Dragon, and Ryan passes through a glyph that resembles his chest symbol before striking)

What would you say if Steve had a good 5 minutes after dragonrise's effect wears off to help beat the opponent. After that, he changes back into human form and cannot change back into rider form for.....:ding: 15 minutes! All the other rings will work at 50 percent during the 15 minute No-henshin duration.
