US Airways jet crashes in Hudson River

This scared the hell outta me because my Dad left for business today, luckily I remembered he went to Kennedy instead.

I heard that some people thought it was a movie set for awhile because it was such an unbelievable site to be seen.

What are the odds for a bird to end up being strucked into the engines like that?

Rarely, RARELY, do bird strikes happen of THAT magnitude. They do happen but its like mocking birds or crows or smaller birds that damage a few blades, but the plane can still fly where then MX goes in and replaces the broken blades.

Bird strikes rarely happen. Your biggest worry flying is human error, not a natural occurrence as this.

honestly I'm surprised it does not happen more offten :S birds don't really expect anything but other birds to be up there :D :D

FAA regulates that Commericial airspace is between 34 - 36 thousand feet, birds don't fly that high. Only time birdstrike happens is on ascent and approach.
