The summer will be hotter than ever thanks to the flames of wreckage caused by the Twisted Metal tournament. Peacock revealed today that the second season of the video game adaption will hit its servers at the end of July. Don’t just take our word for it, watch this intentionally slow reveal: Behold the first apperance of Calypso, the overdramatic host of the tournament! And that faraway view is about all you get, besides a few quick action shots of cars flipping over and blowing up. There is probably a beefier trailer on the way between now and July. That’s correct…there will be actual car combat, and lots of it, in the second season! The first season did not have much of what the brand is known for…it was about setting up who the characters were, their motivations and backstories. We met John Doe (yeah, he doesn’t know his name), a professional delivery driver in a loony post-apocalyptic America who is given his most dangerous assignment yet, but promised a safe place to live if he succeeds. Along his route John picks up Quiet, who at first lives up to that name before becoming quite talkative a couple episodes later. […]

The first season was okay, but I was a bit disappointed. I came in hoping for the kind of chaos the game had, but there were just too many quiet moments. It felt more like a drama than Twisted Metal. I still liked Sweet Tooth though. He was scary but kind of funny at the same time. If season two really focuses on the car battles and the tournament, I might give it another chance. Calypso showing up is a good sign. Just please, less talking, more crashing.

I never played the Twisted Metal games before, so I watched season one without knowing anything. I didn’t expect it to be a story about a driver and a girl trying to survive. I actually liked the story. It was funny and sad sometimes. The world is strange but interesting. I want to see what happens next. I think season two will be more crazy now that they showed Calypso and talked about the tournament. Sounds dangerous but cool.

I played all the Twisted Metal games as a kid, so I was really waiting for the action. Season one was slow for me, but I understood they had to tell the story first. Calypso being added in season two is big. He’s the one who makes the tournament feel real. If they include more characters from the games and do cool vehicle fights, this season could be much better. I’m ready for it. I just hope it feels more like Twisted Metal this time.

I mostly watched season one because I’m a fan of Anthony Mackie. He has a fun energy even when the story gets dark. Stephanie Beatriz also surprised me—I didn’t think I’d like Quiet but she grew on me. Samoa Joe as the body of Sweet Tooth was creepy in a good way, and Will Arnett’s voice added something weird and fun. Adding Anthony Carrigan as Calypso is exciting. He always plays strange guys so I think it fits.

Sweet Tooth was the best part of the show. He was so crazy but funny too. The way he talked and moved made me laugh. I hope season two gives him more scenes. I don’t care much about the serious stuff, I just want to see him chase people with his truck and maybe sing again. If the new season has more comedy mixed with action, I’ll be happy.

I liked that season one tried to tell a proper story. It wasn’t just mindless action. John’s journey was sad but also interesting. He just wanted to find a home, but the system tricked him. I think season two will show how he deals with that betrayal. The tournament sounds cool, but I also want to know how Quiet and John change. I hope they don’t forget the characters just because they want to add more explosions.

YES, finally! The real Twisted Metal stuff is happening. Season one was just the warm-up. I waited for this. Calypso means we’re getting into the real tournament with all the dangerous drivers and crazy cars. I want to see different vehicles with wild weapons and everyone trying to win. I’m not even mad that they waited. Now the action will feel more earned. I just need a better trailer soon because I want to see the full chaos.
