ULTRAMAN SAGA - Rumors and Pictures

Are you saying that they had eventually planned to return to the Tiga-Dyna Universe and follow-up on the end of Dyna? If so, they waited far too long for that.

It would be far easier to believe from that last storyline that the writer was doing his best to bury Asuka/Dyna, once and for all; but was thwarted ( somewhat ) at the end.

They waited 30 years to follow up on UltraSeven.

But, He Was STILL Alive

They waited 30 years to fol
low up on UltraSeven.

But, he was still alive and well at the end of his show, eventually becoming a captain in MAT.

You're RIGHT, of course, that Tsuburaya took a LONG time to return to the classic Showa Ultras. Took 40 years to have Ultraman*, Jack, Ace, Taro, Leo, and 80 come back in Mebius. And, I think that only happened because Mr Kurobe's bad-ass performance in Max.

Also, for 15 of those 30 years, Tsuburaya wasn't doing much Ultraman at all ...

*Since everybody else has their own unique name, shouldn't the first Ultraman be named Ultraman Prime?

No. His name is Ultraman. Or Ultraman Hayata, if you prefer.

That's what makes him unique-it's what sets him apart.

He's not a Jack, he's not a Next, he's not a Mebius or a Max or a Cosmos.

Exactly.

He is the first Ultraman on Earth.

When Zoffy showed up at the end of his series, that immediately rendered the name Ultraman to a title.

So, he needs his own name that matches both his historic mark on humankind, and the fact that he is the field leader of the Ultramen. Something that gives it the appropriate weight and dignity. Simply using an adjective and Ultraman doesn't work as well as having an independant name.

Hence, "Prime". Says first and foremost, since he's usually the leader of the Ultra Brothers when they come to Earth.

Admittedly, the idea of his adopting his host's name is rather amusing. Almost as if some sort of more formal relationship had been established besides a mutually- beneficial life-force bond. (Comrades? A temporary adoption? Making them "blood brothers"?) But, no one else is referred to by their host's name. And besides, it's a bit prosaic. Can you imagine Tiga as "Ultraman Mandoka"? Or Dyna as "Ultraman Asuka"?* Or Gaia, as "Ultraman Takayama"?

Besides, everybody is getting names as quickly as possible. We now know what the names of the Father and Mother of Ultra are. We may find out what Ultraman King's name is in the future.

*I wonder what name Shin Asuka was given when he arrived on Ultra? :eyebrow:

If you're going to have this debate, can you please take it to the General Ultraman thread instead of continually derailing this one?

I will respond to you there if you do.

I, too, had hoped for a January 2012 release for Saga. However, assuming they won't release it until Retsuden has finished its run of 39 eps, that would put the release date in late March, early April 2012.
