Yeah, Seven was the temporary end to the Ultra franchise because Eiji Tsuburaya CHOSE it to be so. He wanted to move onto other projects, just like how he chose to make Ultra Seven when the networks were begging TPC to make more Ultraman.

Who knows? Maybe Seven X will get a second season someday. Also, Ultra Seven was originally intended to be the last series by Eiji Tsuburaya, but it's popularity prevent this. Return of Ultraman was actually aired after Eiji's death. It's there on wikipedia and IMDB .

I know Return/Jack was after Eiji's death. But based on the old Absolute Ultraman site, it sounded like the decision to stop making Ultra Series was actually due to the relatively lower ratings. As in, they decided that the ratings didn't justify a new series.

Though it is now often said to be the best of the many Ultra series, it wasn't considered as such by fans during its original run. When he is compared to the original 'Ultraman,' the Japanese equivalent of the Nielsen ratings dropped from 30% to 20%. Given the costs of production, Tsuburaya Productions decided that Seven would be the last.

Statistically, 'Ultraseven' was not as popular as 'Ultraman'... the Japanese equilvalent of the Nielsen ratings showed that viewership dropped from 30% to 20%. Given the cost of these shows, the Ultra series was put to pasture... creator Eiji Tsuburaya has said, "It is no longer the Age of Monsters. It's time to return them to the galaxies." Or something like that.

Although, I could have just misinterpreted the wording.

Also, seems that Daigo and Tsuruno have been on the same game show together some years ago. Although I'm not sure what show that is.

While I agree with production cost, I don't think popularity and rating is the cause. If it was, why did they still continue with Return of ultra man. Return of ultraman was created because the popularity of Seven. If rating was really a problem, return of ultraman much lower rating than seven would have ended the entire ultra series.

Barring adjustments for inflation, Ultraman Saga is now the second-highest grossing film of the Ultra series. :buttrock:

Hopefully next year in the future will bring back Tiga, Gaia & Agul in the movie somehow.

How would that actually work? I mean, those three lost their powers. Not counting Revival of the Ancient Giant, Tiga is Daigo, and Daigo is Tiga. And without the Spark Lens, Daigo can't turn into Tiga. The only alternative is what they did in Warriors of Starlight, which I find too cheesy to do again.

Although, I'm not sure about Gaia and Agul. Could they exist separately from Gamu and Fujimiya?
