Ultraman Ginga: New Ultraman Retsuden - Pre-Discussion

I thought this first ep, was interesting. The action is what kept me invested though, those camera angles were sexy though. The zoom-in to ginga through the trees, and the spin angle when he dropped to the earth was boss. Ginga's design to me, is the only Ultra suit I've ever liked as well.

I've seen clips of other Ultras in the past, but could never get into them. This being my first, it didn't lose my attention as much as I expected it to. I'd like to see it in high quality and with subs eventually, but I'm not in a rush.

The previous word on Ginga was a 'maybe', and now the first episode is out it's a 'no'.

This is not really the case. It's a no from HeatMetal because he doesn't like Ultraman, ever, period. Magenta just saw the episode the other day, and...

... well, you'll just have to wait and see.

Ooh cryptic  I shall await with bated breath.

I was just responding to the tweet linked in Shynilyte's post above from virushopper saying Ginga's "not happening". From the outside at least, him and Tom seem like the main Ultra subbers over at GUIS so when virus said no it seemed less likely to be happening.

GUIS is definitely not doing it. Nobody there who does Ultra seemed to enjoy Ginga, from what I've seen and conversations I've had. And it is absolutely 100% the best decision they could make! You do not want to watch fansubs from people who don't like what they're subbing. They're inevitably much lousier than subs from people who like what they're working with.

decline of Tsuburaya

Before 2007 an average ultraman show would be 50 episodes but after 2006
things started to change when Tsuburaya sold company to TYO shows shuch as ULTRA Seven X(2007) Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle (2007–2008)NEO (2008-2009)Neo Ultra Q (2013)Ginga (2013) episodes drop down t0 12 episodes allso ultra galaxy to ginga became nothing more than toy commerical. If they keep doing this ultra franchise might become extinct

Buyout from TYO

In October 2007, due to rising production costs, the Tsuburaya family sold the company to Japanese advertising agency TYO Inc., which now has an 80% stake in the company, with Tsuburaya itself owning 68%. Bandai, the main licensor of merchandise for the Ultra Series, acquired a 33% stake. As a result, the old Kinuta Office used by Tsuburaya as its Head Office has been razed, and the company has moved to newer facilities.

Kazuo Tsuburaya, Eiji's grandson, is staying with the company on its board of directors.

80%
68%
33%

Total: 181%

I'm no business expert, but I don't think that's possible. Has Chaiyo been printing extra shares now?

It's a copy-paste of the wikipedia entry. The citation to Sci-Fi Japan is a bit clearer.

TYO has 80% stake in Tsuburaya Enterprises Company (the parent company), and bought 68% of Tsuburaya Productions Company. Dunno where Bandai comes in.

Sorry, TYO no longer owned Tsuburaya, Fields Co does sicne 2010. No, it won't be extinct, please don't exaggerate. The new Ultraman manga published in the manga magazine Monthly Hero's, which is also owned by Fields Co. is successful in Japan and even made the list of kono manga sugoi in 2012. They won't make Ginga if there weren't any interest at all for Ultraman. BTW, the two last paragraphs in your post, you copied it from wikipedia article of Tsuburaya Pro didn't you? That's outdated news.

If only they did the real Ultras in the beginning, we wouldn't have to subsist on horrible Malaysian English dubs or dubs in general? Then again I love Taro through the dub, so I shouldn't be ragging it so much, but still.

I want to see Ultraseven, but I cannot bring myself to supporting a pirate over the original company. I just wish they just sold themselves to WB to then waste Chaiyo permanently or bought them out when they were making those films with them or are. Its really annoying that we should have had an awesome Ultraman movie made by the Wachowski Bros. or some other top notch director, though really, I want to see Will Smith as my Ultraman just because. I just wish something happened that made it possible for both of them to work it out because:
-neither of them are making money
-and frankly, Chaiyo's ideas for Ultraman were epic and had an interesting direction. They have evolved from those films.

Or rather, Tsuburaya went to work on creating a compromise for it and make Chaiyo legit? I just am so frustrated as an Ultra fan that nothing was really here or caught because 4Kids messed it up and didn't turn it into the next craze. I mean seriously, maybe in some other universe, Tiga becomes Ultraman's MMPR in the States and goes awesomely to that it brings them all here. :disappoin

I loved Ginga because it was different. I mean aside from the obvious toy cash ins, the concept is of the all different and nice imo. For 60 years, Ultraman has always been the insider [well save for Neos] and now the outsider. Hopefully the police and military catch up and have a major role in the series like Kuuga or otherwise, this will get very old like those soap operas that stay on the same few sets for a year.

Great funny concept, but I am glad its only 12 episodes because if it was longer, it would make me lose faith that this got a full run rather than Neos[which I've honestly seen only the first episode.] that was novel in concept, ala Kuuga esque. No ties to the Showa and like the Heisei Godzilla and Gamera films; no one knows how to deal with the monster other than the limited tech they got on hand. [even MechaG II was mostly based around future tech, and Biollante was a trainwreck]

I am glad we aren't getting subpar subs anyways because I'd rather have ones that have effort into them rather than being lazily done. That can be saved for the official foreign film DVDs that have dubtitles at times. Or National Geographic.
