No bagging is a gimmick meant to bring in the speculators. What Marvels hopes with this is that since this is such a "earth-shattering" issue that everyone will at least buy an issue to read and another to keep in the bag.

But honestly this isn't want the market needs right now. February was another bad month for the Direct Market and it is these stunts that lead to the collapse in the 90's. Seriously Marvel needs to cut their crap out, especially considering Diamond's failure could hurt them worse of all.

How? Seriously how is putting a book in a bag going to prevent anything? Hell it isn't like Marvel was trying to prevent leaks with the Torch's death anyway. I knew that Torch was on the chopping block at least 2 weeks before the issue came out. And that is to say nothing of Marvel having that AP "leak" made-up.

As I recall aren't they ending the Ultimate Universe in general? I thought I heard that at some point they were going to, only to reboot it again for...some...strange reason.

I'll agree this is not what we need right now, but my question is this: what's the overall purpose here? Is this just trying to milk more money out of the loyal readers they have? Or is this some random person who doesn't read, comes in and buys it for the supposed collector's value, reads it, gets hooked, and now they're reading the previous issues and buying trades and we have another loyal reader now? If it's the latter, even if they're hoping for it to be a long shot, I think they might be barking up the wrong tree. I like the concept of capitalizing on the popularity of the films, as it makes the most sense and has a high likelihood, but I'd think that would merit making a series of comics that are more accessible, not this.

Let me give you a small idea of what hapened to the ultimate universe. We had a few series get "ultimazied" in a new universe with a more grounded setting(yes I know these are capes and tights but still) and more modern feel. We started with Ultimate Marvel Team ups. The same characters were used for the four main books(Ultimate Fantastic Four, Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, and The Ultimates). Now these books aren't for everyone who dislikes the so called "GRIMDARK" look at superheroes. But honestly it wasn't that bad.
The Ultimates had some great stories put together if you could get into them. Ultimates one and two Specifically. (Putting the team together. All Avengers changed into something different such as Tony Stark being a super hero just to show off. Thor being an environmentalist and only helping out when he felt it was right. Thor being doubted as a God. Hulk being another attempt at the super solider Serum and having a different set of abilities that make it hard for Bruce to cure himself. )
Ultimate Fantastic Four changed things a bit too. (Reed giving them powers because they tried to Teleport into the N-Zone because they tried to do this with the wrong settings on the teleporter. Doom being the reason for this because he changed the calculations before teleporting not being able to ever admit Reed was right.)
Ultimate X-Men(Everyone one of Xavier's mission was a step toward his dreams for humans and mutants uniting as one. You could clearly see it was leading toward something till well a certain thing happened.)
And Finally Ultimate Spider-Man(Spidey himself didn't change too much but his villains had differences. The Green Goblin was more like the hulk with fire fists. Electro being stuck in an inhuman form. The shocker being a complete joke and a common thug who Spidey beat easily on a daily basis. Rhino being a geek in a suit)
Some of the concept used were interesting and it was building into a nice universe. But then it sorta felt like Marvel stopped trying. Ultimate Fantastic Four started to lose steam first. Ultimates got some insane delays because Marvel didn't make it a priority to finish the book. Ultimate Spider-Man stayed kinda decent because Bendis was pretty much the only constant author for it. Lets be honest even if you don't like him having a consistent writer helps. Ultimate X-men declined in quality slower then the rest but you could tell they eventually stopped caring.
Then ultimatum came. It killed off a lot of the important cast. Wolverine is dead. Doom died. A few other heroes seemingly died but somehow escaped(Johnny Storm and Peter Parker). The X-men broke up after this. Magneto was dead and so was Xavier. That meant that xavier's plan fell apart as well before he planned to die. Despite your feelings toward the characters you could tell they were sorta needed in the universe they established. Then for some reason they tried to invent knock off characters to replace certain characters like Nerd Hulk almost as if to make the death of the original characters pointless.
Basically right now marvel has essentially already killed a lot of the good in their universe and canceling the whole line now seems like something that may as well happen.
