Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen - TALK UP!

I just saw it in an extremely crowded theater. After the credits started there were very loud cheers and applause, so the crowd on a whole loved the movie, as did I.

I agree that Devastator's "boys" were a bit of a WTF.

I loved that Soundwave was in this. He and Starscream have been two of my favorites since I was a child, and I was glad to see the latter have increased screentime from the first movie.

When Megatron called him during the battle, I thought he was going to try to off him and take control.

Saw it today, not the first showing but more so the 3rd screening of the day. Pretty sweet...nooooww:

za robots

-soundwave launching ravage. Sure, he wasn't a cassette player and ravage wasn't a cassette but it was loosely the same formula in terms of infiltration.

-prime vs. megatron, starscream, &...either blackout or grindor? not sure. Twin blades, and....okay I'm a kid that grew up in the 90s but even i got a bit heart-wrenched when Prime died in the 86 movie. So when i saw him impaled by Megatron's blade it was a "holyyyyy ****!" moment. In the theater i was actually saying "...why??? why do it again????"

-the matrix of leadership. The fact that it was called the Matrix just gave me chills I guess, especially one of the Primes "the matrix of leadership is not found, but earned" or something like that. I do wish it served more of a purpose in an 'Honor' retrospect. Then again in G1 they basically used the Matrix to solve almost anything.

-Jetfire you old hunk of junk! Like an old fart and it was pretty amusing. He still made himself badass; squashing scorponok, ripping out his own spark(that was his spark right?)

za humans:

-is the asshole Government official gonna be a reoccurring role in these movies? At least Lennox sent him a nice farewell :)

-what was that? the 'pretender'? What an original idea! *cough*terminator*cough*

-Sam!!! you...decent character. Something I like about Shia here I just can't put my finger on. As cheesy at is, at least we get to see his bond & relationship with the autobots. Especially after...Prime

-Mikaela, eh. Slow motion running all in the dirt, what more do you need?

-The military really showed off their stuff here. Seeing the F-15s getting ready to take off even got me a little amped and damn...they still got owned.

za other stuff:

- were there 2 sets of constructicons?

- why was the Arcee team considered 'twins'...I saw 3, dude...3.

- Okay, again with the appliances turning into transformers, are they speculated as 'neutral' or what they appear to be which seems to be decepticons. Why is that?

- Soundwave's just...up there throughout the whole thing? Sure he serves his purpose but what now after?

- Prime made the Fallen look like a chump. He had a spear and he had the force; "only can be defeated by a Prime". That context made the anti climatic fight seem as easy as maybe even Iron Hide being able to take him out.

See? Not a perfect film but honestly, some of the 'faults' I did find with it kind of contributed to the laughs. I also noticed not as much references were made or did I miss them?
The plot itself; sam knows about the matrix, decepticons want to know too. Autobots therefor try to protect sam, someone bigger and badder shows up and now we're in more ****.
so...
1st movie:
- Sam knows glasses=cube's location
- Decepticons want sam for cube's location
- They Find Megatron, cue uber fight scene.
- Autobots win by an alternate possibility of victory (put the cube in MEGATRON's chest)

This movie:
- Sam knows about matrix
- Decepticons want sam for the matrix's location
- The discover about The Fallen, cue uber fight scene.
- Autobots win by an alternate possibility of victory (Jetfire combines with Prime

You know what? I could say it's mundane and dry because of a recycled formula from countless other movies, tv shows, and books, I think it's a matter of doing something similar in a new and fresh fashion. The way it worked this time around was that it was done on a grander scale.
It worked but then at the same time it didn't. The smaller group of transformers in the first one allowed us to get to know the characters a bit, allowing us to easily identify them by varying characteristics. In Revenge of The Fallen some of these dudes just got wiped clean: Jolt being in and out of the scenes and plot, sideways being sliced in half in the BEGINNING, arcee and chronia and...whoever the last one was. We get slight taste in who they are but other than that not much at all.
Although I think the most important aspect of this film is one word: Fun. Mudflap and Skids made for an amusing duo and as immature as some jokes might be (yes I, a teenager using 'immature') you either laugh at them or you laugh at the idea as to the producers utilizing them. The comedy made me laugh, the action blasted my mind, and nostalgia got the best of me. It's summer, I'm tired of homework, it's hot as hell, so why not?

More comprehensive thoughts-

(spoilers follow):

*Got to the theater just in time to watch the trailer for the "Twilight" sequel. The only thing which kept me from gouging out my eyes was the knowledge that giant robots would be following it.

*Expansion of the robot cast was good, even if most of them didn't really do much. Sideswipe was probably my favorite newcomer.

*Hated all the scenes at college. The human scenes in general were pretty bad (much like last time) but those were my least favorite.

*Soundwave- cool voice & premise, sad that he didn't participate more. Was really hoping to hear something like "Ravage, Eject! Operation..." but to no avail.

*LOVED the fight scene with Prime in the forest. Very nicely done.

*Scene right after that was kinda jarring. Prime probably saved the soldiers many times and how do they respond? Cut the ropes on the choppers & let his corpse crash into the ground. Very respectful. :pfft

*Skids & Mudflap, hearing a lot of flak about these two. First thought that entered my mind? "Posers." That's how I saw them anyway; couple of wannabee tough guys trying to prove their status by hurling insults.

*Jetfire was a great new addition. Kept expecting him to yell out "I'M SCOTTISH!" But that's just me... :P

*Liked Simmons a lot more in this one, he was probably the best human in my opinion.

*Devastator- liked him, surprisingly. And the way they depicted him actually makes the Supreme toy the most accurate. Too bad that thing still sucks.

*On the subject- what's everyone gonna be focusing on now when it comes to Devy? His toy representation? His ape-like posture? NO! Everybody's just focused on teh giant metal scrotum. It's Dr. Manhattan all over again....

*Was I crazy, or did I see three jets flying over the pyramid at one point? Specifically (IIRC) they were one white, one blue & one black (or possibly deep purple...)

*I've always been a sucker for combining Primes so the end fight was especially awesome IMO.

Overall, great fun but not all that different from the first. Perfect mindless explosive popcorn flick.

I found no humour in dumb racist stereotypes whatsoever and I don't think anyone with a moral high ground would either. That's the price you pay for "fun" movies I guess.

"Why not" is the cancer that is killing dignified Hollywood

God, is there even a point in laying into how terrible this movie is? I'll be one of the first people to try and defend the strongest attributes of TF1, but this was just beyond piss poor. If there's anyone who hasn't seen it and is planning on doing so, I implore you to reconsider.

The world is ending... I agree with quark...

Just got back from a second showing. Gotta love free tickets. Anyone going into this movie looking for anything other than a popcorn summer action flick, leave your expectations and brain at the door. The point of the movie wasn't to make people think, it was made to entertain people. And guess what? Majority of the people who went to see WERE entertained.

You gotta into a movie with an open mind, and just let it take over. If you do that, you can get enjoyment 8 out of every 10 movies. The people who say "Oh, I know this will be a trainwreck, but I'm gonna see it anyway." Those type of people are those who won't enjoy. I urge you to go into this movie expecting fun.

Face it, a movie doesn't have to be perfect for people to enjoy it. It could have so many flaws and holes that you can fit Unicron through, but that's the world we live in.
