Well, I am up the latest, so I'll be the first to post my thoughts...
I'm glad they stuck with the 3rd Tom instead of that cartoonish-looking final Tom. Something about being back in space really matches better with a late night line up. However, they kept the show intros and bumps from the final Toonami installment. Not bad, just not as glorious as some of Toonami's older show intros. But the trade off is that we get to keep the show's actual intros in tact.
You know, it makes me wonder. If Toonami's return to television becomes a success, will they re-write Tom's history and give him a different form to upgrade to instead of that cartoonish-looking model?
Since this is Adult Swim's presentation of Toonami, they can get away with being a little more adult. I hope that this works out in their favor rather than against it. Considering my toku roots and my general interest in the franchise, I'll be happy to keep watching Casshern Sins. But Deadman Wonderland just doesn't feel like a Toonami anime. An Adult Swim anime, sure, but not Toonami. So much for that "Kids love it!" motto (anyone remember that?).
I made a comment about Toonami easing into it considering we are only getting two new titles to enjoy. Considering there wasn't many nuggets of joy between shows this first night, except for a new game review, that statement was greatly reinforced. Dare I say, Toonami's return was kind of... boring?
But we shouldn't abandon ship after the premiere night. Let's all remember, it's been said before, Toonami NEEDS our support! If we keep watching and supporting, Toonami will only continue to get better. So let's buckle down and continue showing Toonami as much love as we can! This return might not have been everything we wanted it to be, and we might have raised our expectations too high, but I see tons of potential now that Toonami is back. We made it's return possible, so let's follow through by showing the love and boosting the ratings.

So I just want to be clear. They renamed Adult Swim to Toonami? I mean yeah it's like the toonami of the past, but this is still just adult swim programming?

The block of anime action on Adult Swim is called Toonami.

They have had anime on adult swim. Is adult swim staying?
Adult Swim is staying, just staruday at midnight the anime shows that usually were on Adult Swim has a seperate block now named Toonami like Keith said. Family guy, American Dad, Robot Chicken, will all remain Adult Swim.
I think the block was cut off to bring back the excitment of late nights that had ratings high when Toonami was on in it's prime days.

...and before Adult Swim...it was called Toonami Midnight Run. Soooooo...we're back to square one more or less.
