The ratings for Kamen Rider Hibiki looked pretty solid. So why was there such a scandal over it in the first half? (ie: the stories of sponsors pulling out and how kids were tuning out, changing of the writers, etc)

I was surprise when I noticed that GARO had low ratings, but then I remembered that it aired around midnight - most NORMAL Japanese people that aren't night shift vampires would be sleeping by then. ):

Yup, for all series. But the biggest for the past couple years has been for Ultraman series all the way. They're ratings have been whooping SS and KR ass in recent years!

Ultraman is very popular in Asia. You can't walk into a toy store without seeing SOME kind of Ultraman merchandise on the shelf

No they haven't. Of the three big franchise, Ultraman's actually had the lowest in the past few years (Nexus had a 2.9% average, MAX a 4.0% and Mebius a 3.9%). Mebius had a prime time slot in Japan when it aired and got slightly average ratings, but its toy sales were pretty awesome. In these days with so many options on TV, I don't think ratings matter as much as they used to. The days of Kamen Rider Agito-like ratings are probably long gone. Like I said in another thread, I think someone should make a new form of ratings adjusted for population shifts.

I think Nexus could have done great with its intended time slot, but TBS backed out and gave that slot to Gundam SEED Destiny, as much as I loved MAX, it didn't do much better than Nexus in ratings and it was a much more kid oriented show, but again, I heard the toy sales carried a huge part of the weight.

Toy sales. As much as I love Hibiki, it was not a series that lended itself well to toys. I have a few and I can't imagine a 5 year old Japanese kid having as much fun flipping the Hibiki fork as he would with a Zecter. Blade also had pretty bad toy sales, I guess Toei just couldn't take two years of bad toy sales when that's what drives most of Kamen Rider's profit.

Intresting, I've always wondered what the highest rated Sentai was.

I know it maybe a bit early, but any chances you can get the ratings for Kiva/Go Onger?
I believe Goranger is the highest rated Sentai with a 21.5% average.

I've gone ahead and added the ratings that I have for Kiva, Go-Onger and finished up the Geki ratings.

Blade had bad toy sales?? That one shocks me. The belts were pretty fun and the weapons you buy are interactive with the many different cards.

Faiz has the best toy sales of the franchise up until Den-O, but yeah, Blade (surprised me too) had some really bad toy sales.
