To get rid of the region code on your DVD player

Do you have Region 2 DVDs, but not a Region 2 player to go with it? Think you might have to shell out money for a new player? Will the new one cost a lot, or a little? Will you use the new one just for your beloved Tokusatsu collection? What if it breaks?

This site just helped turn my Region 1 Insignia IS-TVDVD20 in a multi-region TV/DVD combo. I did it because the multi-region DVD player I got fell and broke. It can still play, but I'm not sure for how long. So, I looked around and found this site and a hack for my TV/DVD set. After much trial and error and deductive reasoning, I managed to turn my set to Region 0. I know this because I was able to play my Hurricanger movie DVD without the other DVD player. I post this site here so you guys can use it on your DVD players. Enjoy! :buttrock:

It worked alright for me. I was able to play Magi vs. Deka (2) and the Wizard of Oz (1). There was a funny blob on the bottom of the Hurricanger movie main menu and I couldn't play a deleted scene from Oz, but the problems are fixed and there's no blob and I can watch the Oz deleted scene (I just took Oz out and put it back in again). I don't have anymore problems.

However, if you're concerned, you can wait and see if I have any problems. I'll post if I do, but I don't think there'll be anymore. However, if you want my opinion, stick to the hacks that only involve pressing buttons on the remote. I've read some of the deals people had with using hardware to change the region code so I'm recommending to stick with remote control changes.

Just to let you guys know, I wouldn't have posted this site if I had any major problems after changing mine. I only posted it because it worked, and I assumed that the people on this board probably had a few Tokusatsu DVDs and wanted a DVD player that can do both and not settle for a cheap one. Let me know what you guys think of the site I found.

Remote hacks are perfectly safe. If you're using a firmware hack is where you run into the possibility of trouble. Sony & Panasonic owners should ignore this thread as they are pretty much hack proof. Phillips makes an excellent stand alone thats both region free and does perfect PAL to NTSC conversion for anyone looking (also plays DIVX and .avi):buttrock:

Plus, i dont think this stuff have to be here. Let's say a kid of 10yo reads this, and starts "hackin" the firmware of the precious DVD player of his dad. And because he is a stupid kid, it fails. What will happen next?

I hope nothing bad happens because I posted this. My only intention was to help owners of both Region 1 and 2 discs.

If you're under 18, don't try changing the region of your parents DVD player without their consent.

I would just stick with buying a region free one. I was lucky to have bought a portiable DVD player that plays all disc regions and formats. Costed a big $67, and with the audio and video cables it lets you broadcast the picture over your regular TV.

But, I've known about that site for a few years.. but the 3 previous players I had never had ANY hacks posted! :laugh:

what i've usually done is ripped the dvd with dvdshrink or some other program and then when u're allowed to choose what region you want the dvd to be, I simply put it on all regions and everything is fine

otherwise i just play ti on my comp using anydvd (which allows u to play any dvd region w/o changing your drive)

but...my way sounds really illegal >> ...at least u're not messing with firmware though

You know, here we are, talking about making a DVD player region free, but what about playing them on a computer? I found software that can "play any region DVD, even if you changed the region on your computer more than 5 times" (from website)

sorry if im bumping an old thread,
but I unlocked the region on all the DVD players in my house (about 4 or 5) and I can assure people it is very safe no problems even with the cheap DVD players they unlock just fine and play everything just fine

Although I had never heard about unlocking the region on a PC before all my pc's have been able to play imported DVD's
