Things you thought would suck but end up loving it!

Ok this thread is where you discuss about any toku show that you thought would be terrible but then up liking it.

Here's mine

Kamen Rider Blade
1st impression: I don't like it when a Rider series uses cards as it's gimmick to activate their attacks because I just find it as a cheap marketing propaganda.

Why I like it now: I ended up liking this series because they provided an explanation of why this series uses a card system. Blade's monster are immortal Undeads so they can't be killed w/ any kind of weapon. They only way to defeat them was to seal them in the cards. Yeah it's like Card Captor Sakura but more manly and it works.

Boukenger, of all things.

When the first promotional materials and synopsis came out, it made it sound like the show was going to be One Piece: The Sentai... and I HATE One Piece.

But then the show actually started and it's become my favorite of the 00's and is up there with GoGoV and MegaRanger for my all-time favorite.

Outside of Japan, TMNT: The Next Mutation. Aside from a few nitpicks, it wasn't bad and Venus De Milo wasn't as much a bother as others perceived.

After the shows I've recently finished, I'm intending to ignore any others' opinions on the show before I watch it.

RPM. I really was skeptical. Of course, then I saw episode 1 :D

Also, after five seasons of decent level-crap KR series, I wasn't that keen on W. Of course, then I saw episode 1 :D

I wasn't keen on Phillip until the show actually started. From the pictures I thought he might be just something very pandering and intolerable. But other than looking like Harajuku exploded on him, he's been an interesting character and he contrasts well with Shotaro.

Hikari Sentai Maskman

When I first looked at it, I thought the suits were bland, the characters were unmemorable, and the plot was bland and unoriginal. I thought it was just plain boring and uninspiring. And I thought the ending was meh too. As a result, I ranked Maskman as one of the worst seasons of all time.

Eventually, I started studying how Sentai worked and how each of the seasons worked and complimented each other. So I gave Maskman a second shot. And well, now it's on my Top 10 favorite seasons of all time!

During this second watch, I admired many elements in Maskman that I missed during the first watch. For starters, the first 3 eps were awesome (that's how I felt the first time too). Now after that, this is where I lost interest the first time. But this time, I paid closer attention. I completely fell in love with the fight scenes. They kept me on the edge of my seat. I aslo fell in love with that fluttering sound effect that was used whenever they jumped up into the air. :P Next, I realized just how fleshed out the characters were. Each of the five characters had a balanced amount of screen time (though sadly Kenta, Haruka, and Momoko pretty much got ignored in the last 10 eps). I loved all five of them. The stories that they went through were all well written, kickass, and powerful. Each ep showed that they truly did get stronger. I loved how the whole show stuck to the story theme of "Forbidden Love," making the show very coherent and beautiful. And I absolutely loved the Soundtrack and Background music for Maskman! It was very unique. Gave it a special epic feel, with it's use of violins and drums. For the villains, I still didn't care much for Baraba. Oyobu was cool. And Fumin was awesome. Her ninja fight scenes with Haruka was amazing. And Igam has become one of my favorite villains of all time. Her story was just so compelling. And Zeba was a unique twist as well. THe mecha fight scenes are also some of the best I've seen. Love Galaxy Robo! I also thought Aura Power was one of the coolest concepts ever, and how it helped support the stories was very well done. As for the Igam being a woman thing, well, I viewed it negatively the first time. But during the second time, I admired the performance that was done for it. Speaking of performance, playing both Igam and Iyal at the same time was really impressive. The suits were cool too. The suits used for Tube was very well designed. And I love Igam's suit. And the Maskman suits were really ahead of their time! Very sleek. I loved the simplicity in them. They looked like they were glowing, which I think went well with the Aura Power concept. Loved how they just went well when they were in action. And I liked the crystal earrings that the girls had. Gave a sense of tranquility. And for the ending, I felt that it was perfect and beautifully done for this season. It was sad as well, but it felt happy at the same time, and gave me a sense of completion. So overall, my views on Maskman changed drastically.

Kamen Rider Den-O.

It was the first Kamen Rider I watched since Ryuki in 2005 and the only thing which made me watch it at first was the song, which I first came across in a The Girl Who Leapt Through Time MAD. Kamen Riders looked so colourful, they immediately reminded me of Power Rangers. But I went on to watch the first episode. And the next. And the next.

And look where I am now =D
