Quick question for those who read on a regular basis what is your preferred format, e-book, physical copy or a combination of both? I only added both because that's where I'm at. I have a Kindle, I like reading on my Kindle but I still buy actual books too.

I like a physical copy as I like the feel of paper in my hands. Though, I do appreciate an electronic format that I can read on my laptop. I don't have an e-reader (kindle/nook/ipad/etc).

It's to the point where i have bought e-book of actual books i own just because it's easier to lug around a small tablet than a few tomes.

Plus i always were gloves when reading a actual book because paper has the most vile feeling and smell ever invented by man. It makes me want to go all Fahrenheit 451 on libraries ever since i was a kid. :sweat:

Right now I've only got physical books, but I'm getting a Nook next month. It's a move necessitated by...well, I live in a pretty small place and don't really have room for my 200+ book library to keep growing. I figure a Nook might also help me save money if I can just load the ePubs I already have onto it and not buy anything until I move into somewhere a lot more spacious.

scikaiju, good timing. I got a Kindle recently too and it is only now when I'm deciding whether I'm going to buy my books mostly electronically or in paperback.

E-Ink screens really sell the thing for me and is the reason why I got it before going for a smartphone/tab. At the moment I'm going for a combination of both, buying stand-alone books physically and series electronically because of how big they are (unless they're not available electronically).

Space is the deciding factor for now, but I'm hoping to get enough room one day and then get a paperback version of everything I really liked and have electronically. I do have to say though, were it not for the ink screen, I would have been stubborn and insisted on paperback regardless of space.

A lot of people poo-poo'd the idea of Neon Alley, but it's pretty awesome. I've had it on all day. Just got done watching a Tiger & Bunny marathon and they're starting a Blue Exorcist marathon next.

I know we live in the age of on demand, but sometimes it's nice to have something curated for you and not have to decide. Also, I like promos and station IDs. Is that weird?

Nah, that's not weird. I love the spontaneity of turning on the TV and just being able to see something you weren't planning on watching at all. It's also why I love going to book stores, just browsing the shelves leads to me discovering new titles.

Through some stupid turn of events, I couldn't rent Princess Mononoke from this one video store; I then head home and, literally a minute after I got home, Kiki's Delivery Service was starting up on CBS(?).

I have an absolute love for books in its actual format. I honestly feel intoxicated by the smell of books when I'm in a library or a bookstore. (Yeah, I'm one of those crazies who sniff books :sweat Whenever I feel the need to center myself, I just go to an old library or used bookstore and walk, never walk out empty handed. TMI: I am still waiting for the day someone fulfills my fantasy of making out with me between the bookshelves of an quiet library

It took me a while to embrace e-books and I love the idea that Project Gutenberg allows me to read classics for free online, but to this day, I still haven't read a full length book electronically. I read translated light novels, fics, manga, and comics (now I have comixology on my phone) just fine, but there's just something missing for me when I'm trying to read 1984 on an ereader. I rather just lug around a book; just feeling its weight in my bag tugs all sorts of happy threads in my heart.

Also, I've amassed about 300 books in my personal collection, and borrow quite a lot from the various libraries I have access to, so at any given time I can have up 500 books in my apartment. I do plan on having my own personal collections of picture books, children's and young adult fiction, modern classics, and an antique/vintage collection of fairy tales, mythology, and folklore soooo~

Yeah. I'm just plain weird.

There will always be something enticing about holding a book in your hand, looking at how many pages you've read and how many you have left to go. Just like there will always be something enticing about turning on the TV and watching whatever's on.

That said, if physical books die, I can't say I'd miss them too much. When Borders was closing, I went to pick up the first Game of Thrones novel, and I was deciding which copy to pick up. Do I pick up the hardcover, which is pretty expensive? Do I pick up the digest size, which is much cheaper, but I don't like reading that small text? Or do I pick up the trade paperback, which is a happy medium between the two--cheaper than the hardcover but bigger text than a digest? But that's still a little more than I want to spend.

At what point in that process do you just say, "Screw it. I'll just buy this off the Kindle store"?

Also, I patiently await the day when all my textbooks will be in ebook format. They're very heavy and I like not having a hernia.
