The Space Sheriff Universe

Should it be revisited?

I mean...MAN, this is a series that had major potential. I freaking love Gavan and Sharivan, own both of 'em on DVD. I think they may have the coolest power sets of all of Toku, for the human sized fighters at least.

And there is STILL a lot they could do, hell, even revisiting the past characters. Gavan would have retired by now, which leaves the Police Union free to be corrupted from within...and I'm sure SOME ONE'S wondered what a Double Man would be like if he had the armor and powers of a Space Sheriff....

Really, why isn't there more talk of bringing these guys back? They're VERY distinct, and even with the Kamen Riders of today sort of taking the place of Metal Heroes (Some of the time) they would still be a different and powerful force all their own.

I know there has to be SOME interest in them-didn't Gavan and Sharivan get new toys and stuff released of them earlier this year?

No one ever likes Shaider, do they?

I think Toei has tried testing the waters for new Metal Hero merchandise in the past and it just hasn't worked out all that great. A lot of the new figures are strictly of the collector market with no real intention to get wide spread appeal. There was that Uchuu Keiji Spirits game not too long ago that was supposedly testing the waters for a new show and it kinda of bombed. Space Sheriff, and really Metal Heroes as a whole, are probably dead at this point. It would be great to see them come back because they weren't nearly as strict with what you had to be to actually be part of that franchise, but Kamen Rider has basically fallen into that. Add to that the rumors that Den-O was originally a Metal Hero pitch and that Ryuki went pretty far into production as a Metal Hero show before being reworked in Kamen Rider, I'd say it's easy to see Toei likely won't try testing the waters with any new tokusatsu that isn't Sentai or Kamen Rider anytime soon.

Shaider is my...least favorite, as can be guessed.

I disliked his design the most, I disliked how out right goofy some of his stuff could be, his first episode just made me go WTF several times, and I disliked his space ship, compared to the original two.

...then again, I think it's unfair to try to compare a giant gun *OR* the Gun Man to the GLORY that was the BATTLE SPACE TRANSFORMING LASER FIRE DRAGON.

Basically what I think as well, Sharivan was my favorite of the trilogy.

I liked Shaider :(

I have to say the same for Space Sheriff as I did for the rest of Metal Heroes - while it would be wonderful to see it reworked for the 21st century, it would ultimately fall victim to the same marketing tricks as Kamen Rider an Sentai: excessive merchandising, casting pretty-boy idols who can't act, etc. It's probably better in the past where we can remember it with fondness

I'm torn between Gavan and Sharivan as my favorite of the trio. I actually dislike Gavan's costume the most, shockingly, despite my views on Shaider's design.

But that's almost purely because his suit looks so...soft and...not metal. It looks almost plush in places, which is a stark contrast to, say, the stock footage of him using the Gavan Dynamic, which shows him in glorious gleaming metal armor.

However I FREAKING LOVE his battle ship. SPACE TRANSFORMING LASER DRAGON.

Meanwhile, while I'm not crazy about Sharivan's chest (Little too boxy) I adore his helmet, and he's a pretty interesting character. ...a horrible police man, but an interesting character. He's got the strongest costume, I think.

I think ultimately I have to point towards Gavan, if only for the running subplot of Hunter Killer, his father, and all that connects there.

Sharivan didn't really HAVE an over arching plot like Gavan.

Shaider I sadly haven't gotten to see past the first episode, so my views come strictly from that. I can't speak for its storyline, and I can't speak for later episodes. But what I saw was both trying to be serious and very very obviously goofy at the same time, clashingly so, and his design has never worked for me.

Partly the helmet, namely the visor, and partly the color choices. His legs just...look off to me.

This is something that always sort of took me out of the entire experience of the show. I suppose they were just a little worse at implementing the stunt suits back then because later Metal Hero shows do have suits that carry the illusion throughout.

Well, let's be fair. Gavan was, quite literally, the first of an entire new Genre. His costume kinda needed to evolve-Ultraman and Kamen Rider's did.

The DESIGN worked, but the costume itself...

Sadly Gavan also came at such a point where shows stopped evolving over time and just staid the same, no matter how they could be improved.

THough I think they did a good job with Sharivan's costume, and Shaider as well.
