The Official Martial Arts Movie Thread

If you haven't seen it, find DRIVE. One of the best movies I watched in college with a room full of dudes hootin' hollerin' and cheering with ever kick, flip, punch and combo.

Finally. You've mentioned Drive. Oh my gosh, I loved that movie! Mark Dacascos was awesome and his movement in action was so amazing!

I remember not being happy with Stormriders, I think. If I remember right, I thought there was too much special effects and not enough straight out fighting.

Been a long while tho, since I seen it.

And still kickin' ass!

...in a manner of speaking.

Is there anything this man can't do? He was Chinese in DRIVE, he was American Indian in Brotherhood of the Wolves, and I think he was hispanic in Only the Strong and now.............. he's a cook?

Goddamn!

There were a couple spurts of straight swordplay, but yeah, wuxia is like that. Before they were able to do CGI, they did wires and cartoon animation. I'm not a very big fan of the genre, but Stormriders is better than stuff like The Duel. Recently, wuxia has switched to more choreography and wire-related stunts like Hero and House of Flying Daggers, but it still bores me for the most part.

Same. While I recognize HERO was a good story, I kinda hated it. It's not martial arts, its flying about on strings and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much slow motion for my likes.

I got all ready to see Jet and Donnie Yen go at it and got all excited and... well, yeah... I've seen more exciting fights on Power Rangers... litterally. :P

Jet and Donnie's fight was one of the ones I didn't mind; there were parts that were very well done. It was just the fluttery buttery flowery stuff that makes me dislike Zhang Yimou's current style.

If you want to see some really good fights between Jet and Donnie, check out Once Upon a Time in China 2. There are 2 fights between them that are fast and furious like Vin Diesel could only dream of being.

Saw it. :D

Indeed that was one of the greatest titanic martial art fights I've had the pleasure to behold.

Fweakin' phenomenal.

One fight I remember hating from Hero was this sword fight I thought would be epic, but was a slow motion flying over water with lots of ghost images floating over each other. :shakefist

I haven't seen a truly epic swordfight since the end of the original Makai Tensho, when Jubei takes on his demon-possessed father in a burning pagoda and covers his body with sanskrit and kanji written in blood to protect him from the undead.
