The Lesser-Known Toku Discussion Thread

I kinda like Power Rangers, but geez... VR Troopers was terrible compared to the original ones (Spielvan and Metalder).

Sadly here in the UK we only got the Saban adaptations. I don't think any of the Japanese originals have aired over here. Heck, we haven't even gotten many of the Godzilla films.

I remember watching a Godzilla movie where he (it?) fought a two headed dragon... I believe it was this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101962/

Necro posting for querying!

I notice that a group called Big Nova Subs have just completed a sub of Kyodai Ken Byclosser. Has anyone seen the show? Is it any good? I'm always curious about 80s toku.

Bycrossers was broadcasted in Brazil during the 90's. I haven't watched it, but it is not really popular around here compared to the other shows of its age, even among toku fans, even compared to non-Toei shows (like Lion Maru and Cybercops). I listen to a lot of podcasts about tokusatsus, and I think I've only listened to someone mentioning Bycrossers once.

Bycrosser is weird. Though I watched the show raw a few years back and still am not clear what the plot exactly is.

It's an Ishinomori show so the weirdness is definitely going to be there. It's also an interesting look at an era in which he wasn't contributing as much to tokusatsu as he did in the 70s.

I wasn't aware Ishinomori was associated with weirdness. Bycrosser is just weird compared to other tokus out there, from the heroes to the quirkiness of Dr Q and Co.

Honestly, aside from the wacky bike gun here there wasn't too much weirdness in the first episode. It felt more like an off-brand Metal Hero. Maybe it kicks in later? For now though I can't say I want to drag it straight up to the top of my viewing queue. It's more of a "maybe someday".
