The Judges of Caanan (A Sentai story)

First off, I'm glad you're enjoying it. I agree that I do get rushed at points, and that's when I've been postponing writing a chapter for so long. It's been a month since the posting of this most recent chapter and the one before it, and that was because of both school and simply not being in the mood to write. And when I see that things are getting delayed, I tend to want to just get it done with so I can move on. I try to avoid it when I can, but sometimes it's inevitable.

As for dialogue in fight scenes, I understand your point. Regarding the YakkaJuu fights, I was trying more to emulate older Sentais where the monsters rarely talked. My problem with thinking up dialogue is trying not to make it sound too cheesy, which is something I've always hated about PR and now even some Sentais. But besides that, I wanted to avoid having one-liners and the sort in my stories, and just let the action and music (whenever it's there) speak for themselves.

Thanks again for your readership and critique.

I am indeed :D I don't usually read Sentai stories, it's not my thing, but I like yours. It really did catch me.

To be honest though, I wonder, how exactly are you naming things? Some of these names are so long I can't exactly remember them.

No problem, I will continue to read and give response. I think it's something HJU should do more often. Pay attention to talent writers. We barely get as much recognition as artists over at the art section.

To be honest though, I wonder, how exactly are you naming things? Some of these names are so long I can't exactly remember them.

Some of the villain names (like Maha Swarna Karkatahaya, GaraYakka, HiriYakka, and those of the YakkaJins) are taken straight from folklore. Others (like the YakkaJuus) are made up by me based on the naming style of old Sentai monsters. (For example, the Turboranger monsters were BoumaJuu and each of them had the suffix "Bouma" after their name. So for this story, I have "YakkaJuu" with "Yakka" as the suffix. The names at the front are just the Sinhalese word for their particular motif. "KotiYakka" = "tiger devil/demon".)

For the mecha, the only really long name there is Maha Ibba Maligawa, which simply means "Great Tortoise Palace/Castle" in English.

Yeah I've been keeping up with this series since you've recommened it to me a few months back and havnt been replying. Sorry I'm just a reade:sweat:r and I guess the only critique I can give is if I like it or not(Which I do:thumbs:). I can't bring my self to watch/read sentai for some reason but your story is an exception.
japaneseseries fan basically covered everything else i was thinking. I'll try to post better responses in the future.

Just wondering. Are there any other stories you might write after this?

Thank you for reading.

I plan on reposting Hell Rider in the near future with some edits and a new soundtrack. Also I have two other Sentai stories, another Rider, and a Garo/Makai Knight fic in the works. Once Judges is done, I'll decide which one of these I will start on.

Passage 25: “End of Days†– Part 5

The Judges suddenly found themselves in the center of a large arena. Hordes of Yakko sat in the stands above cheering and yelling. Vata, Pita, Kana, Ginijala, Vedda, Golu, Biri, Maru, Amuku, Gulma, Deva, and Kala Sanniyas appeared behind Ravana’s throne.
“Citizens!†announced Biri Sanniya in a sonorous voice. “To commemorate the Ascension of our kingdom, your Raja has granted you this contest! Standing here, four of the Judges of Canaan! And their opponent...Slesma Sanniya!â€

A pair of doors below Ravana’s balcony burst open. Several stallions galloped out, pulling chariots mounted by Kattu. Bringing up the rear was Slesma Sanniya on his own chariot. The Kattu herded the Judges to the center of the arena. Slesma Sanniya leapt off his chariot and landed in the center with the Judges, a deadly lance in his hand.
“Now I will break your spirit†Ravana said quietly to Pack. Pack simply watched his fellow Judges, praying for some way out…

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yoroi came face-to-face with Kola Sanniya, delivering a flying kick. Kola Sanniya caught the kick and skidded backwards a few feet before dashing Yoroi against the wall and continuing on his way.
“You’re only wasting your time.â€
The figure of Yoroi smashed into the wall and...twitched. It seemed to flicker for a moment, before turning to static and vanishing. Before the demon realized it, he was surrounded by an entire army of Yorois, all of which were jumping, kicking the air, punching the air in a highly chaotic pattern. A hand grabbed his shoulder and turned him around. A very irate Yoroi, the real one, pulled back his right fist and smashed it into Kola Sanniya’s face, sending him crashing to the floor. Yoroi now wondered to himself why he hadn’t thought to use his Bunshin program in all this time.

Kola Sanniya was getting up again. Yoroi moved quickly to subdue him and threw another punch. To his surprise however, his hand went clean through the demon’s body, which had become fluid. Kola Sanniya smiled and instantly resolidified his body, encasing Yoroi’s arm within him. An intense burning sensation shot through Yoroi. He struck at his foe several times with his knee and free hand, but each time he did it was weaker and less focused. Finally, when he couldn't take it anymore, he uttered a bloodcurdling scream of agony. Kola Sanniya opened his mouth wide and clamped it down on Yoroi's head in an attempt to swallow him whole.

Yoroi couldn't even feel the demon swallowing him, as he was in much agonizing pain. All he understood was an even higher dosage of pain as the aura of the evil beast engulfed him. Any light he could still see through the blindness from the pain was shut out as he was completely swallowed. After a moment, his body simply gave out…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the massive doors burst open and the chariots barreled in, Obelisk took quick action. Swinging his scepter wildly to knock away whatever projectiles he could, he leapt forward to confront Slesma Sanniya.
“To be honest, I'm starting to run out of patience with you lot. So instead of the speeches, mind if we just get this done with?â€
Kiliana came up beside them. “Individually you can break us, but together†he glanced sternly at Obelisk “is another story.â€
Obelisk snorted. Slesma Sanniya was unmoved. With the crowd roaring around them, the demon banged them both on the head with his shield, jumped back before either could react and unleashed a wave of lacerating energy from his lance with a slicing move through the air…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“You only have one job.â€
Ikeia lifted his head up as the Issachite's words echoed through his mind. How could he save the world if he was evil? How could he protect anyone, including his team, if he was evil? He was a murderer...a killer...and he had done so simply out of power.
“You protect Canaan.â€
He brought his hand up to his face, and looked it over. He staggered to his feet as Slesma Sanniya unleashed his attack on Obelisk and Kiliana. His fist seemed to charge with energy. He pulled back, and with one movement, thrust his hand forward as hard as he could and punched the demon in the face. An invisible force, almost like a tidal wave, hurled Slesma threw the ring of charioteers and slammed him into a wall. Pack watched intently from the balcony, noting the power that had risen in Ikeia. All too soon Slesma was back on his feet and charged with his lance toward the three.

Obelisk raised KameKoora high and rushed forward to meet the demon and clashed heavily against his body. Slesma knocked him away with his hand, sending him flying backward toward the charioteers. The brash Issachite soon found himself in a maze of chariots, scrambling to avoid getting trampled. At the sight of this, the crowd of demons cheered especially hard.
“Look at that†said Ravana to Pack. “Look what fools your friends are.â€
The crowd roared again as Obelisk was knocked away by a chariot and sent skidding across the ground. He staggered to his feet, but collapsed again and held his stomach. A vile secretion spilled from his mouth and nose, and he shook uncontrollably. All ten of Ravana’s mouths joined in the laughter: the Rakshasa had not forgotten the slight against him by the now Judge of Issachar, and now delighted in the peril of this proud prince. Pack ignored Ravana and the Sanniyas behind them, and continued to watch.

Ikeia ducked a heavy thrust from Slesma’s lance and used the momentum to roll away. Seeing him in pursuit, the Gadite met Slesma with unrelenting blows from his twin swords. If he was a destroyer, he thought to himself, he might as well be destroying the right things. Meanwhile the charioteers made a charging wall formation and began thundering toward Obelisk and Kiliana, firing arrows and bullets their way.

From the corner of his eye Ikeia saw Kiliana falter and stumble backward to the ground as she frantically tried to protect herself via her shield. Slesma took advantage of the distraction to throw a punch to Ikeia’s face, repaying him for the earlier blow. Ikeia’s nose burned with pain, and he felt a slow trickle of blood. Not even thinking anymore, he jumped in between Kiliana and the approaching wall of charioteers.
“What is he doing?†Amuku Sanniya scoffed.
“He wishes to die and spare himself more pain†snorted Maru Sanniya.
“No†said Pack. “He is being a shield.â€
“He will be crushed†sneered Biri Sanniya. “And so will the girl.â€
“He can’t save anyone†added Kaka Sanniya.
“Maybe not….†Pack slowly admitted, turning his gaze to the demons. “But he will attempt to anyway at the cost of his life.â€
“Why?†asked Gulma Sanniya.
“Because he can’t live if he doesn’t.â€

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sako once again attacked, carefully this time, keeping her guard up. She stopped a few feet away from Naga Sanniya, shot him with KazeThuwakua, and charged again with KazePihiya, slashing as many times as she could. Naga was driven back but then disappeared as the room was filled with a cloud of black smoke. Some grenades rolled to Sako's feet and detonated. Sako crumpled to the floor, wondering if she would live through this one.

The signboard appeared and flashed green to indicate Naga's victory. Naga grabbed Sako and forced her into a state of slumber. In her subconscious Sako found herself in her hometown. Some Naphtalites were herded together and killed by Naga. Swaths of large black serpents then began slithering up to feast on the bodies. Sako screamed for it to stop, but no one heard her. She tried to run forward but the scene kept sliding away from her.

More failures, more lives lost. What now? She had to think of some way...if not to win then at least prevent more lives from being lost because of her weakness.

What if she gave up....no she couldn't do that. The Rathnaya chose her, and she had to fulfill her duties as being one of the chosen. She had come so far and grown so quickly. By her hnad had she brought down the master of the dreaded Bahirawakanda. But she hated to believe that all this is what one experiences while being chosen to defend everything. How could they save the world when they couldn’t even save their own loved ones, or themselves?

Sako suddenly found herself in a large, opulent library in disarray. Lying in the midst of broken tables and overturned bookshelves, she saw two bodies lying on the floor. They were Ban and Israfil.
“Ban! Israfil!â€
Sako ran toward them, not daring to think the worst…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comic held his shoulder, having suffered a blow from Kalu Kumara’s sword. He had left himself open to it, he knew that. But he couldn’t focus. Not with Ruth in mortal peril.
“You’re slipping up†noted Kalu Kumara as he parried a strike from the Asherite’s hammer. With a kick he forced him to drop the weapon and sent him flying into a wall. Comic quickly bounced back, removed the hammer heads from UshiMitiya and split them into the twin metal knuckles. With a loud cry he relentlessly punched at the YakkaJin. Kalu Kumara managed to catch him by the arm and kick him in the stomach, then spun him around and slashed upward diagonally across his back.

Comic fell on his knees and then on his forearms. He looked toward the ruins where Ruth presumably was lying under. He turned back to Kalu Kumara, who now kicked him so that he rolled further away.
“So falls the hero of Asher. What shall they sing of you now, you who have lost everything.â€
“I haven’t lost yet†Comic retorted, trying to maintain a brave front.
“Oh but you have. And so have your teammates.â€
A scream echoed from outside the house.
“Even from here you can hear their agony. Let it ring in your ears as you die.â€
The demon raised his sword to deliver the final blow, but a hand suddenly caught his forearm. He whipped around to see who would dare interfere.
“KaluYakka!â€
KaluYakka released him. “What are you doing here? The Judges belong to the Sanniyas.â€
“There are eight more for them to choose from. This one is mine.â€
“That’s not for you to decide†said Sunniya, coming up behind. “Let him go.â€
Kalu Kumara cursed and glared down at Comic. The Asherite grimaced from his painful injuries, but did not turn away from the YakkaJin trio.
“It seems I must spare you death from the sword. But I suppose the alternative is worse anyway.â€
He sheathed his blade and turned away snickering. The demons exited the house and walked through a portal that had opened outside, returning to the palace. Comic turned back to the rubble.
“Ruth.â€
He began to drag himself toward the source of the cries he had heard…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The epileptic shaking had lessened. Obelisk quickly looked around, nursing his bruises, his worn out throat, and his pride. He spotted Ikeia jumping in front of the chariots and rolled next to him and Kiliana.
“I hope you have some plan here.â€
Ikeia assembled his swords into the chakram form and took aim to throw it. Kiliana ejected the blades from the rim of her shield and did the same. The chariot wall broke formation as the flying weapons scattered the riders. Slesma made his way through the disarray and stood before the Judges.
“A nice trick. But you are still outmatched.â€
“We’ll see about that†Kiliana retrieved her shield and ejected its large blade.
“Perhaps you should ask your friend for a hand.†Slesma pointed to Pack. Ravana watched the Danite look down at his comrades.
“That’s the first thing you’ve said that I agree with†said Obelisk. He called up to Pack.
“Well? Are you going to stay there and watch, or will you fight?â€
Pack did not answer. He looked down onto his hands gripping the balcony ledge.
“Pack!†yelled Kiliana.
“You cannot help them†said Ravana. “Do not waste the mercy I’ve dealt to you by trying. You are worth more than that.â€
All eyes seemed fixed on the prophet.
“Stay up here and savor the nectar. Go down there and scrounge for figs in the dust.â€
A chalice of nectar was pushed toward Pack. Slowly he brought it to his mouth and held it in place…

"Gnngh..."
As Yoroi seemingly came too, the first thing he noticed was that he was laying face down on cold rock. The second thing he noticed is that it was dark, as though a thick blanket of clouds had blotted out all light. Looking up, he found himself staring at some sort of massive cliff a few feet away. Ruins of architecture littered the area, various boulders and stones piled themselves on top of one another. Yoroi turned himself over, getting into a semi-sitting position. He realized he was still in his armor but missing his helmet. Ahead of him was a large chasm plummeting down to immeasurable depths. A faint red light was splashed over the chasm walls.

Suddenly it became clear to him. He knew where it was, and it frightened him. It was a place that had haunted his sub-consciousness for years, entering into his dreams and turning them into nightmares.

“Mysticus colony. Or rather what’s left of it†said a low, gravelly voice with a sarcastic tone to it. Its owner laughed as Yoroi spun around, still on one knee. On top of the ruins of a once grand tower stood Gaisei, leader of the Horu.
“What…†Yoroi gasped, not fully comprehending how he got here…or how he could be here. Gaisei turned around turned to face Yoroi.
“What is this? Where are we?â€
“Isn’t it obvious? You are home.â€
“You’re dead†Yoroi said flatly, noting the obviousness of his statement.
“And so will you be in a short while. But before that happens I thought we would have some fun.â€
Lighting flashed with a crash of thunder….

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An explosion was heard from the upper levels of the palace as Kola Sanniya moved ever forward. More celestial guardsmen came to defend the edifice and were quickly taken down by the Sanniya leader. Finally he reached the final stretch: a path leading to a large sepulchre at the heart of the palace. Within it lay the ultimate prize...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yoroi scrambled to his feet, taking a defensive position a few feet away from Gaisei.
“How are you here?â€
“Would it matter even if you knew?†the pirate asked as he began to circle Yoroi. The warrior kept a wary eye on his opponent.
“Perhaps I’m an illusion, a hallucination created by the pain as your body is slowly digested by the stomach of a demon. Or perhaps I am simply the manifestation of your insecurities and your guilt, brought to life by Kola’s own powers. Who’s to say? But I’m here…that’s all that’s really important, is it not?â€
“Why?†Yoroi asked in a very serious tone with a glare. “Why did you bring me here?†he waved in general at their surroundings.
“I thought it was very poignant†Gaisei replied, “Considering what happened here.â€
Yoroi’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “And?â€
Gaisei stopped circling and chuckled. “This is where you lost your friends, is it not? And where you lost Aqua. But I suppose it sounds strange coming from me, for after all I oversaw their deaths.â€
Yoroi threw a punch at the pirate. Gaisei caught the fist with his hand and laughed as he pulled to his side with little effort, causing Yoroi to follow. Once he had done so, Gaisei then twisted the arm, flipping Yoroi over onto the ground and slammed his foot down onto his stomach.

“Pathetic as always. Is it any wonder you were and are a failure?â€
“Shut…up†y3k grappled with Gaisei’s unrelenting foot.
“You failed Mysticus, you failed Aqua, you failed your entire team…â€
“I said shut up!â€
Gaisei looked down at Yoroi. “Why? So you can hide from the truth? Still under the delusion that you can be a hero? That you can be useful! There is only one thing you are good at, Dargel, and you are doing it now!â€
“No!â€
Gaisei lifted his foot and kicked it into Yoroi’s ribs, sending him rolling. He then kicked again, and again. After the third attempt, Yoroi attempted to get up, only to be kicked again in the stomach once he was halfway up. Gaisei then unleashed three punches and a swing kick across the face. Yoroi flew over and splattered on the ground.

“You always needed someone to be something. Who took down the bad guys for you? Techni. Omega. PRF7. Zyon. Aqua. Abe. Even Jadan. Your team. They bailed you out whenever you messed up! They bailed you out when you allowed Exodus to live and then befriend me. But they can’t bail you out now, because you couldn’t’ respond in kind when they needed it!â€
Gaisei grabbed Yoroi by the neck, and lifted him up to his face.
“All you can ever do is mess things up. Is it any wonder Exodus left in the first place?â€
He threw Yoroi back down.
“It’s ironic really You wanted to be a hero, but you only ever caused pain. Even when you thought you were atoning for your sins by chasing us across the universe, you were still in the wrong. Isn’t that just amusing? You’re always wrong. You’re always the villain!â€
“…No…†Yoroi uttered as he got to his knees, buckled over as if he was about to fall back down. “I’m not.â€
Gaisei seemed taken aback by this. Still defiant? That wasn’t…was it possible?
“You know what’s really ironic†Yoroi asked, sick of the accusations, sick of shame this...shade was trying to press on him. There wasn't a single thread of self-pity anymore. He wasn't going to take this anymore. He snapped his head around at Gaisei. His face had an expression of determination and acceptance. “Had you done this to me even a few days ago, I would have probably conceded. I had no sense of self-worth for so…damn long†he grunted, and got to his feet. His right arm held the ribs on the left side where he had been kicked, as he breathed heavily, still arched over somewhat from the pain.

A fierce smile crept his face. “But I have it now. I have my purpose. I’ve learned to forgive myself. I’ve learned that I can’t control everything…it’s not possible. I’ve learned that there is hope. That I can love myself.â€
He stood up straight. Words and emotions were coming out of him. But they weren’t pain…not totally. They were confidence. Pride. Determination. Happiness.
“We are who we are, who we choose to be. Not who you, or anyone else tries to make me! I AM I!â€
A long and hard healing process had finally hit critical mass. His suit began to emit energy as its power levels rose higher and higher.
“You said it yourself! You’re just a shade of what once was! You don’t exist! You’re just an illusion Kola Sanniya made!â€
Gaisei seemed speechless as he simply staggered back. This wasn’t how it was supposed to happen. The entire scene…reality itself, seemed to be disintegrating.
“I’ll always have doubts, and things I’m not proud of. But I won’t be ruled by them, nor by you!â€
He took a step forward.
“I AM I!â€
Reality was torn asunder as it dissolved into shards, leaving nothing but pure light behind. Yoroi lunged forward, faster then he had ever before. Gaisei didn’t even have a chance as he saw a phoenix flew in and smashed through him, leaving nothing behind.

With a satisfied smile on his face, Yoroi ascended ever higher as light engulfed everything…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kola Sanniya suddenly found his stomach uncomfortable. A sharp pain jolted through him, much to his surprise. What could possibly overcome the darkness and pure power inside a Sanniya? A soft glow emitted from his abdomen, becoming brighter and brighter, more and more intense. Acting quickly, Kola threw the chest containing the Rathnayas into the air, focused his power, and ejected his spirit from his body. The body exploded, releasing Yoroi in a violent birth.

His suit was repaired and his helmet back on. He breathed heavily from his prior ordeal, and was damned ready to repay Kola for his little trick.
“Now where is...†he looked around, until he saw the entrance to the sepulchre. He raced inside and looked around. Numerous artifacts and treasures of marvelous nature ordained the tomb. But the demon was nowhere to be found... until a clawed hand flew toward Yoroi and slashed his armor. Yoroi staggered back, his suit smoking and sparking. He took a defensive pose as Kola Sanniya, his body reformed and carrying the chest, landed before him.
“So. Fight to the death?â€
“…To the death.â€
The Mystican pulled out his lance and threw himself forward…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“What the hell is he doing?†Obelisk asked. Pack stared into the chalice of nectar.
“Go on†said Ravana. “You have your way out. Take it before your time runs out.â€
The nectar’s aroma flooded Pack’s nostrils. The temptation to gulp the whole thing down rose ever higher. He took one more look at his fellow Judges below. Slesma Saniya had his lance pointed at them, waiting for the signal to finish them. He then turned back toward the Sanniyas behind him. The chalice touched his lips… but the liquid didn’t enter his mouth. Pack hurled the chalice down into the arena, splattering its contents onto the ground.

*Basilranger theme plays*
(‘Hi wo Fuke Daibuster Instrumental’ from Gosei Sentai Dairanger)

“Ikeia!†he yelled through the din of the audience. “You can still summon your armor! Do it now!â€
Ikeia looked down, very unsure. “I...don't know.†Did he have it in him? The fire that had been in his soul during the battle with Kapala Sanniya had vanished long before.
“Look around you. This is not the time for doubt. People are dying out there and will keep dying if there is no one to protect them. I know you still want to protect people, all of you do. You want some fire, you have it! We exist to fight. But first we have to survive, not only for ourselves but for the legacy of the Judges past. Your sins will be judged one day, but right now you must fulfill your covenant! Stand up and fight, and do not stop!â€

The three stared up in awe. The prophet had spoken as he had never had before, with more passion than he had had in many a year. Ravana’s ten faces flashed looks of fury. The Sanniyas moved to restrain Pack, but he quickly beat them off and leapt down to the arena floor. On the way down he felt himself become wrapped in a warm yellow glow. When he landed, he was fully clad in a reduced form of the Basilranger armor.

Basilranger.png

The demons cursed. The Judges gaped. Pack dashed forward and struck Slesma Sanniya before he could react.
“Come on!†he coaxed. “Summon your power.â€
Obelisk and Kiliana closed their eyes and began to focus. Ikeia still seemed disheartened, but he felt Pack’s compassionate yet persistent gaze through his helmet. There were still some embers of courage left in him. Ikeia copied the action of the other two. Slesma was charging back, lance extended. The Kattu had dismounted their chariots and were now coming as well. Pack stood before his comrades to protect them…

Finally, their bodies were wrapped in purple, white and golden glows respectively. Just as Pack caught Slesma’s lance and was shoved into a wall, the lance piercing through it, the three slowly rose, clad in their reduced armors.

LeviangerEdit.png

Chelonger.png

Pack gave a nod of approval and wrestled away from Slesma. He joined the other three as the now frenzied Kattu began to attack. The Judges made short work of them; not only had the power refreshed them, but their resolve to win was restored. Slesma Sanniya barreled through, slashing and pummeling in a mad rush to finish his opponents. Obelisk disengaged from the rest and took a three-point stance with his left hand down and his right extended out to the side holding KameKoora. A dazzling golden aura streaked with arcs of white plasma surrounded him as he flashed toward the remaining grunts at high speed, disintegrating their bodies.

Pack took a second to watch the Issachite. Such a display of raw power could be a result of the unchecked abilities of this reduced, unrefined armor. The extra plating of their default forms might serve not only as protection, but as a safeguard against bursts like that. Expending too much energy would most likely speed up the rate at which the residual power dissipated.

Slesma slashed and jabbed Pack several times with his lance, and hurled his shield like a discus at Obelisk and Ikeia. He then grabbed Kiliana and threw her into a wrecked chariot. Kiliana sent a few thunder blasts off here and there, obliterating the chariot and propelling herself forward again. KujiPaliya in hand, she charged it up with electricity and bashed it across the demon’s head. As he stumbled about, she got together with Pack and Ikeia on one side.
“Put your weapons together!â€
Pack pointed HebiKalla at Slesma and charged it with his power. Kiliana and Ikeia placed their shield and chakram respectively and added to the cannon’s power buildup with their own. On Slesma’s other side, Obelisk stood with charged scepter.

“They're charging up an attack. Be sure not to get caught in the blast.â€
“I know! I'm not completely inept.â€
“...without me you are.â€
A pulse of rage shot through Obby's mind and filled his body, adrenaline and testosterone surging. Slesma whipped his head side to side, growling and steeling himself for whatever was coming.
“This is an exercise in futility. You cannot win!â€
“We’ll see about that†answered Pack.
“Fire!†yelled Kiliana.
Obelisk shot forth a plasma burst while the others fired a supercharged elemental blast from HebiKalla. Slesma managed to knock away the former with his shield, but it nevertheless shattered from the impact. The latter hit him dead on by it. Slesma Sanniya was knocked off his feet and slammed into the ground, his armor smoldering and sparking heavily. The demon audience fell silent…

Slesma’s hand twitched. He slowly began to get up. Pack, Kiliana and Ikeia separated their weapons, still charged with each other’s power. Pack fired his cannon again, hitting Slesma in the shoulder. Kiliana released the blades around the rim of her shield and hurled it, striking Slesma in the abdomen. Lastly Ikeia connected his swords into halberd mode and rotated one blade so that the weapon resembled a crescent moon. With a loud cry he slashed diagonally across Slesma’s torso and horizontally the opposite way. The Sanniya tottered for a moment and fell over again, this time exploding in a brilliant fiery display. The signboard appeared overhead and lit green on the Judges’ side.

The demon audience sat dumbfounded. Ravana said nothing while the remaining Sanniyas looked around, waiting for what would happen next…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kira jumped over her opponents, kicking the YakkaJins away in the head. Murta Sanniya caught her and threw her to the ground. In retort, Kira lashed the demon with her whip, who stoically bore the flogging before clubbing Kira again in the head and chest, sending her toppling down.
“Come now!†Murta Sanniya taunted as he struck again and again. “Are you so foolish to keep going on?â€
With each blow, Kira began trying to concentrate the residual jewel powers within herself, hoping to unleash it all in one go. If Ban could do it so could she. As Murta Sanniya raised his club for another blow, an aura of light radiated from Kira's body. Auroras danced around her, and a pink beam of light shot upward as she jumped to her feet. Yelling loudly, she blocked the club with her arms. Yes, she thought. Just a little bit more…

Kira went on the offensive, slowly pushing the Sanniya backwards. But Saradiel snuck up from behind and fired three arrows at Kira’s back. Kira froze for a second as the arrows pierced her, giving Murta Sanniya the chance to fell her for good with a final blow from his club.
“No!†Kira cried out as she frantically tried to get back up. The power that had built up within her was now fading away as fast as it came. A signboard appeared and flashed green on Murta's side to show his victory.

“Seems you’ve clipped her wings†Aimana quipped to Saradiel.
“Now to pluck her feathers†said Kasyapa with relish. Murta Sanniya however restrained him and pointed Kira to a screen depicting the ravaging of Zebulun. Stumbling up from a blood red ocean was Chebar, barely escaping a battle with demons and now being pursued by a team of them. The last thing she saw before the screen went dark was her fiancé surrounded in a clearing and being attacked. She hung her head in shame, knowing that she had had a part in this. It was her fault. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she refused to shed them with those damned demons there.
“Yes, girl. Lament. Shed your tears, for this is the end of Canaan. The Yakko’s vengeance is complete†said Murta Sanniya.
Kira would not look at them. Kasyapa grabbed her by the throat and turned her around.
“Still stubborn, are we? Make this easy on yourself. Bow down to Murta Sanniya and he can vouch for you before Ravana-raja. He can show mercy for you and your betrothed.
Kira spat in his face. Kasyapa growled and backhanded her with his closed fist. Murta Sanniya came up to the girl and used his power to force her into unconsciousness. Kira tried to resist, to stay awake and continue fighting, but to no avail. In no time she was out cold.

Saradiel lifted her onto his shoulder like a hunter bearing his felled quarry, and left her to lie in a dark hallway. Before he disappeared he examined one of the arrow tips that had pierced her: it had been absorbed into her and made her body emit a purplish glow for an instant. Saradiel smiled. Unbeknownst to Murta Sanniya, he would be having some of his own fun…

Sako reached Ban’s and Israfil’s bodies and shook them awake.
“Ban! Israfil!â€
Ban slowly opened his eyes.
“Sako!â€
He tried to get up and found that he was still paralyzed, to the extent as before but still enough to keep him from standing.
“What happened??â€
“We fought Kora and Demala Sanniyas… take a guess what happened.â€
“Can you stand?â€
“Not yet… Havok!â€
He shook Israfil, but his friend remained in his torpor. Sako looked nervous
“Is he…â€
“No, he’s still breathing. But he has to get up soon, we can’t stay here and you can’t drag us both around.â€
“Did you… did you see people dying in your punishment?â€
Ban looked at Sako for a moment. “…Yes.â€
He tried to offer her a sympathetic gaze, but just then a door opened and Kira entered, still feeling dazed.
“Kira!†exclaimed Sako. Kira turned toward the other Judges. Her eye sockets were darkened, and her lips carried a purplish hue.
“What -?â€
A bookshelf revolved 180 degrees. Out rolled Sako’s sister, bound by thick coils. Sako cried out, and Ban stared in surprise.
“What’s going on here??â€
“Oh, just a little game of my own†said Saradiel with a laugh, appearing on the library balcony.
“Saradiel!â€
“Yes, it’s me. I figured, why let the Sanniyas have all the fun? Us lowly folk are entitled to something, after all.â€
He turned to Sako and pointed to her sister.
“She will go free...†he pointed now to Kira.
“If you kill her.â€

Comic climbed through the rubble. The voice had gotten fainter, almost to the point… he shook the thought away. She wouldn’t fall without a fight.
“Ruth!â€
He heard the groaning voice again and began throwing away debris to reach it. When he did however, he saw not his wife, but a small impish devil. It looked at Comic and uttered the moan that he had taken as that of his wife. It then leapt at Comic’s face. Comic dodged just in time and hurled a large stone at the devil when it tried to pounce again, seemingly knocking it unconscious or dead.

Anger and relief simultaneously swept over him. His wife was safe, or so he could now safely hope. No doubt she had found somewhere to escape to before the devastation began. He sometimes forgot how resourceful Ruth could be. But he still cursed himself for allowing Kalu Kumara to manipulate him so, to the point of extensive injury. There were still enemies to face. He couldn’t be hampered with disabilities. Comic slowly dragged himself to his feet and hobbled outside. His back stung from the sword slash. His shoulder and limbs throbbed painfully. He was hardly in any condition to fight.

The portal was still open. He could return to the palace and help the others fight the Sanniyas. On the other hand, as he was outside he could try searching for his wife and friends to make sure they were alright. Certainly he couldn’t waste such an opportunity, and how could he help the other Judges in his condition? Of course in this condition he wouldn’t be of much help to Ruth or anyone else on the outside either. Comic sat on the ground, wringing his mind for an answer and hoping the pain would subside.

A crack in the cloud cover suddenly caught his attention. Hewanalla was shining down on him. Comic rose again and stared up for a moment, wondering what possible message this could be. A wind blew in from the west. He turned westward and looked out over the plains of Asher. Miles and miles away, he saw an amassing army of Canaanite tribes. The reason for such a gathering was plain: a revolt against Ravana was underway.

So what did he learn? That all was still not lost, that there were those still willing to fight to their last breath to protect their world. These people needed something to embolden them, to inspire them. And that something was all nine of the Judges. They needed Comic and the rest. And the other Judges needed him too. He could not abandon them. Comic smirked to himself. Even now, alone and powerless, he bore the responsibilities of an army commander. He turned back to Hewanalla and offered a silent prayer of thanks to heaven, along with an imploration to watch over Ruth.

His choice was made. Comic began moving toward the portal and slowly stepped inside, returning to the palace to finish what was started…

Ravana stood up and addressed the four Judges.
“You have won one round at last. I didn’t think you had it left in you.â€
“There’s a lot of things you’ve assumed that are not true, Ravana†said Pack.
“Indeed. Again you reject a life of comfortable contemplation. But do not deny that for a moment you found my offer appealing.â€

Pack lifted up his cannon to point it at Ravana. Obelisk suddenly laughed.
“You think that’s gonna do the job? He's the king! I doubt dropping the Maligawa on this guy would finish him off.â€

The arena had disappeared, and the setting was back to the black room with the lone balcony.
“The Issachite has a head on his shoulders†said Pita Sanniya.
“The prophet has spent too long in the sun†mocked Vata Sanniya.
Kiliana snapped her head toward Obelisk. “I'm just about getting sick and tired of your arrogance. This is life or death. You need to decide whether you are with us, or against us.â€
Obelisk snorted and rolled his neck with an audible crack. “That’s the point isn’t it? I'm not really with anyone. I'm against Yakko, plain and simple. Our allegiance is but temporary and out of necessity.â€
“Then you can at least pretend we’re on the same side. We’re not going to get out of here if we keep arguing with each other.â€
“You can argue on your own time†interrupted Ravana. “You've defeated Slesma Sanniya. Now you must kill seventeen more of his kin.â€
“Or you can quit while you’re ahead†said Gulma Sanniya.
“Your power fades even as we speak†said Ginijala Sanniya. “Soon you will have none left.â€
“And then all hobe gone†finished Golu Sanniya.

“Don't make me laugh. We could take them all down at once if we were still at full power.â€
“But we're not. And besides...even with using the Powers appropriately, would we honestly be able to take out Ravana on our own?â€
“Outside of this palace, most definitely. Here the game is clearly biased against you.â€
Obelisk nodded absentmindedly at Shirmon’s voice and came back to awareness, remaining silent and staring up at the balcony stoically through the opaque blackness of his visor.
“What shall it be?†asked Ravana? “Do you continue, or do you forfeit now with this victory?â€
“What do you think†Ikeia responded.
“As you wish…â€
Ginijala and Vedda Sanniyas leapt down to Pack and Kiliana and abducted them to another part of the palace. Golu and Biri Sanniyas did the same for Ikeia and Obelisk. The remaining five who had not yet fought left to seek the other Judges…

Coming back from a lone walk, Cheiron saw Sarindhu sitting alone on a small hilltop and tossed him some meat from an animal he had caught.
“You haven’t eaten for a while.â€
“Can one still have an appetite after all this?†asked Sarindhu half to himself.
Cheiron shook his head. “You’re lucky the crew is dead, otherwise they’d say you’re getting soft.â€
“Goushou might have understood.â€
“Well Goushou was always an oddball…â€
He sat down next to his friend and began eating.

“So, still want to save the world?â€
“I don’t think we can. Unless the two of us can somehow fight Ravana’s whole army.â€
“Don’t count on it.â€
“Then we could try to find the Judges.â€
“And I told you before, that’s impossible. Honestly, at this point I say we just throw in the towel and sail out of here.â€
“Yes, that would be in character for you†said a voice. The two pirates turned and saw Chebar, his arm, leg and face bandaged, walking with a slight limp toward them.
“Who are you?†asked Cheiron.
“I am Chebar. And you I take it are Cheiron and Sarindhu?â€
“How did you know?â€
“Kira has stories about you.â€
“Ah†said Cheiron with a smile, getting up. “So you’re her betrothed.â€
“And were it any other time I might have it out with you. But I’m here to talk.â€
“What about?†asked Sarindhu, also on his feet.
‘Well after escaping some Yakko I headed to the closest town to get some aid. There it was I heard some stories about two Horu looking to raise an army against Ravana.
“You have†said Cherion. “I guess you’re here to laugh too.â€
“No†said the soldier. “I’m here to deliver your army.â€

The two looked at each other confusedly. Chebar lead them down the hill to a small grove near the base. There standing was a large gathering of Zebulunites, some of which Cheiron and Sarindhu had met in the tavern. From the looks on their faces the skepticism of their sincerity had not disappeared.
“I’ve gathered every able-bodied person I could find, in addition to my own forces†Chebar explained. “They will be meeting us later.â€
“I still don’t see why we need them†said one of the tavern’s patrons, giving the pirates a leery gaze.
“They’ve gone this far to try to help you. Judah’s Judge was saved thanks to Goushou, and Sarindhu fought with the Tribes against GaraYakka and HiriYakka.â€
“And since then they’ve led us to slaughter with their idiotic attacks†the man shot back.
“Alright, fine. We’re not saints†said Cheiron. “We’re not war heroes. But my friend here, for reasons that continue to perplex me, really wants to help you.â€
“Forget what you think of them, but at least admit that their idea make sense†said Chebar. “We need to all band together if we’re to defeat Ravana.â€
The people were silent for a moment.
“An ally and an enemy offering the same counsel†said Sarindhu.

They waited as the people mulled it over amongst themselves. Finally Chebar spoke again.
“All who are willing to join us, step forward.â€
The people looked at each other for a moment. One person, then two and three and dozens more began stepping forward. Chebar smiled and looked to the pirates.
“Let’s get started.â€

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kola Sanniya caught Yoroi’s lance, pushed it aside and kicked Yoroi in the chest. He then created his own lance using his magic and stabbed it at his foe. Yoroi used the momentum from both his weapon and the kick to propel him in a full circle, coming back at Kola as his lance came at him. The weapons collided, each combatant attempting to push the other back. Kola then unexpectedly yielded, falling backwards and forcing Yoroi to fall forward. Kola propelled Yoroi further with a kick to the chest as he flew over him. He then jumped back up to reach a statue of a well-draped woman near the far end of the sepulcher.

Catching sight of Kola moving towards the statue, Yoroi struggled to his feet. He almost opened up with a round of firepower from behind, but hesitated as he realized the Sanniya probably had something up his sleeve for such a conventional maneuver. But...what else could he do? At the very least, it would possibly at least buy him some time. As he charged forward, he opened fire from his arm cannons, preparing himself for the likely backhand of his attack. Kola went intangible, forcing the blasts to go through his body and hit the statue instead. At once the statue's eyes opened, revealing blank white eyes. She put her hands together palms forward and, with a haunting echo emanating from her body, unleashed a torrent of energy at Yoroi. Barely in time, Yoroi jumped high up near the ceiling. New attack plans began formulating in his head.

This guy is almost indestructible. The sword could probably take care of him, but I need the jewels to get it without killing myself. That means I should try to take it from him instead of fighting him. Except...if I do somehow manage to take it and open the seal, he'll just take me down from behind and bypass me.

But if I allow him to open it, I'll be unable to stop him afterwards as he’ll have even more power. It's too big of a risk. I need to have him either destroyed or incapacitated before I head for the sword. Right now all I can do is hope to keep him occupied until I can find some sort of weakness. He has to have a weakness.

He dropped back down and delivered a flying kick to Kola, connecting with his head so that he smashed into a wall. But as he landed he threw his charged-up lance at Yoroi.

The weapon thrust its way into Yoroi’s abdomen. He groaned in pain as he stumbled, landing on his knee. Ungodly white-hot pain shot through his body, the same pain that he had felt inside Kola now coursing through his body. He felt like he was about to black out again.

No. I can...do this...

Grabbing the lance firmly with both hands, Yoroi began to tear it out from him. While he was occupied, Kola Sanniya raced to the statue, took out the box and slowly began to open it...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obelisk grimaced as he was teleported away. The feeling of being displaced under another being's power made his skin crawl. They reached their destination, a seemingly-endless black void, almost like outer space. He managed to pull away from Golu Sanniya and back up.
“...So what's the game this time, freak?â€

But the words did not reach him, for he suddenly had no voice to speak with. Golu Sanniya smiled cruelly at his handiwork. The battlefield was the never-ending void of the cosmos. Stars, planets and a galaxy or two floated around the four. Golu began attracting one of the planets from its orbit and hurled it at the Judge…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ikeia was thrust backwards, and he rolled over a few feet away from Biri Sanniya as they entered the new battlefield: an apparently rocky, uninhabited planet. Before the Judge could take it all in, the Sanniya attacked. Oddly enough, the planet seemed to be swerving out of its normal course and hurling straight towards something...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sako stared at Saradiel, Kira, and her captured sister in horror at hearing what she had to do. Of all the awful things she had experienced, this was among the most sadistic.
“You guys are sick!â€
She took out ShikaUnna and shot arrows at Saradiel.
“Sako!†yelled Ban, just as horrified as the Naphtalite. Beside him Israfil was beginning to stir. Saradiel held up his hand and directed the arrows to fall and explode around the two astronauts.
“Oh? You can be heartless.â€
The coils around Sako’s sister began to tighten like a python constricting its prey. The poor girl whimpered and looked pleadingly toward the Judges, Sako most of all. Kira grabbed Sako and struck her across the face.
“Will you let her die?†taunted the YakkaJin.

Sako looked down with tears rolling down her cheeks. She didn't know what to do now. If only this was just a horrible nightmare.
“Sako…†Kira whispered. Sako looked at her friend. Despite the control over her body by Saradiel, her mind was still hers. She tried restraining her arm as it began to raise her whip to strike. “Save her… do what you have to…â€
From her voice Sako detected resignation and hopelessness. She looked down again, still sobbing for a moment before she pushed Kira away and glared at Saradiel.
"NO! TAKE ME! LEAVE HER ALONE!" She threw down her crossbow and surrendered.
“I’m afraid it doesn’t work that way†Saradiel chided with a mock shake of his head.
The coils tightened further. Kira looked at Sako in dismay.
“What’s going on?†Israfil asked Ban as he liftend himself to a sitting position.
“Saradiel is offering Sako’s sister in exchange for Sako killing Kira.â€
“What??â€
“I can’t kill her!†Sako cried out.
“If she doesn’t die, your sister will in her place.â€

Ban was getting the feeling back in his legs. About time too, as his blood was now boiling in anger. He groggily rose to his feet as Sako slowly picked up her crossbow again and turned to Kira.
“Forgive me, Kira.â€
Kira lost control and unfurled ToriKasaya. Sako rolled away, split her weapon into blade and gun, and ran forward to face her new opponent. The sister cried, and Saradiel laughed.
“Shut up, you bastard!†yelled Ban.
Israfil joined him, his own angry fire kindled. Saradiel laughed some more and leapt down to battle the two…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the planet rocketed toward him, Obelisk blanched and tried to make a run for it, as this strange environment did seem to have a solid material to tread upon. A titanic shape suddenly came between him and the planet, and used its own gravitational power to knock it off course into the path of a gas giant.
“Ibba!†he mouthed soundlessly.
The Maha Ibba Maligawa, by some miraculous feat, was here in the palace and joining the fight. Confident again, Obelisk propelled himself to the top of the beast’s head. He looked around for Golu Sanniya, but he had vanished from sight. MIM turned around and roared loudly as he found the demon in giant form. He sent a meteor shower down on the two. MIM charged forward, rocks pelting like stinging snow. Obelisk kept steady on the head, wondering if he had enough power to summon a doppelganger like he had done fighting BalYakka…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ikeia readied his halberd for another clash with Biri, when the sky began to move. If that wasn't discombobulating enough, the planet itself was beginning to break under the strain. Biri took advtage of Ikeia’s distraction to batter him around some more. Ikeia tumbled off his feet and rolled around the cracking planet surface. The Maha Ibba Maligawa suddenly moved into the planet’s path and redirected it to hurl toward a gas giant.

Ikeia glanced up at the sky and saw the large red and orange gas giant closing in on them, wildly spinning around and around with the stars behind it. This was bad.

But then his weapon began to glow. Why? Then it hit him: moons. The giant had lots of moons orbiting around it. Getting up despite the inertia of the flying planet, he lifted his halberd skyward, pointing it directly at the quickly enlarging planet above them. Power seemed to fly down at him into the staff from at least sixteen different points. Biri Sanniya was coming for another attack. Collecting the energy, and using his gravity attack to hold him in place, Ikeia flipped the halberd into chakram form and hurled it toward the demon.

The charged, circular blade sliced right through Biri’s body. Following up, Ikeia shot himself forward with his gravity attack, caught the chakram and split it into the JougenThatu twin swords, and slashed Biri as he landed in front. Sparks and steam flew as the Sanniya spun around and landed on the ground. He teleported away, leaving Ikeia marooned on a soon-to-be annihilated space rock… or was he? A white griffin came streaking down from the heavens and lifted him onto his back.
“Rajaliya!â€
The TharaJuu roared and escaped just as the planet was destroyed by the crash. Ikeia breathed a sigh of relief. In the distance Obelisk and MIM were engaged with Golu Sanniya.
“Let’s give them a hand.â€
But before they could a hand grabbed him from behind and tightly gripped his shoulder and head. Biri Sanniya cackled as he appeared behind the Gadite. Rajaliya tried to throw the demon off, but Biri persisted. Ikeia began trying to wrestle him off…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pack was back in the large dungeon, this time with Kiliana. Loud cries echoed throughout the halls and cells. Not knowing whether these were prisoners or the Sanniyas themselves, they started moving quickly down the halls. Certain cells turned out to house captives afflicted with plague. Others were wrought with intense fever and cried out for any kind of relief. Kiliana shrank back, and even Pack had to turn away. The laughter of Ginijala and Vedda Sanniyas then caught their attention.
“What did you do to them?!†demanded Kiliana. “Why are they here?â€
“They’re a preview of what’s to come for you†said Vedda.
“What say you, prophet?†jeered Ginijala. “Will you try to heal them, or was that show you put on just that?â€
“Do not test me, demon†growled Pack, drawing HebiKalla.

Both sides rushed to each other and the fight commenced. Vedda fired a stream of spore-like material that could transmit disease to those it touched. Pack aimed HebiKalla and fired a jet of water that dissolved the spores. With a shout, he twirled the cannon around and fired a stream of hot fluid at Vedda, sending him crashing into a wall. The liquid that fell on the floor and walls sent up bright, hot flares that illuminated the otherwise dank chambers.

Ginijala, whilst fighting Kiliana, arched up an eyebrow as he witnessed Pack’s display. Kiliana sent bolts of lightning toward him. Ginijala deftly dodged these and flew up to kick the girl in the head. Kiliana rolled over and began to get up, but then began feeling a throbbing pain in her head.
“My, you don’t seem well†chided Ginijala.
“Kiliana!†yelled Pack. “Don’t stop, keep going!†He was knocked down by Vedda and was forced back into his own fight. Kiliana tried to heed the advice but was already finding herself burning up, dizzy and light-headed…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shimron’s voice echoed in Obelisk’s head again.
“Don't just defend...use it!â€
“Huh?â€
“Imbecile...you control the sun and stars. Because of the properties of this castle, everything they create is real. Those are reals suns...real stars...with all of the energy that implies. Use them!â€
A loud laugh, slightly sinister in nature, echoed across the cosmic battlefield as Obelisk stretched out his arms and brought his full concentration to bear. Sweat trickled down the side of his face inside his helmet as he conjured his giant doppleganger form and began to draw a star toward him. That star, along with many others, began to converge on one point, colliding and combining into one massive star. Its radiance was brilliant and nearly blinding.
“Time to finish this.â€

He held out his hands, directing the doppleganger to grasp the star tightly. He brought his hands together swiftly, collapsing the super-star and forming a black hole. Golu’s curse of dumbness was also lifted. He immediately felt an immense drain of power and for a moment his suit seemed to flicker. Obelisk ignored this and looked at Golu Sanniya with a grin.
“Are you so eager to die?†Golu Sanniya asked the Judge. “You are wasting what’s left of that power.â€
Obelisk smirked and gave a little shrug…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sako gave a sigh of dismay; she wanted a way out of this, but that would take a miracle. She swung her blade wildly. Kira jumped away and caught the weapon with her whip, then yanked it out of her hand. Undaunted, Sako withdrew her gun and fired. Kira trid to dodge, but felt some of the shots graze her body, one hitting her dead on in the leg. Sako jumped forward and punched her in the face. The controlled Kira did her best to fight back, but slowly became beaten down by the enraged Sako. ToriKasaya dropped to the floor and rolled away as she collapsed.
“Kira! KIRA!â€
She turned back to her nearly unconscious sister and ran to free her.

Meanwhile as Ban and Israfil fought the unscrupulous bandit YakkaJin, they felt the residual power from their Rathnayas build up within them…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pain was racing through Yoroi’s body as he got up. He wasn't quitting. Not this time. He shot up to his feet, ignoring the injuries, and flipped the lance around so it faced Kola Sanniya. Uttering another bloodcurdling scream of power and rage, he charged the lance back up with his own energy and shot it forward.

Kola was impaled, making him throw the box upward. Yoroi flipped around and made a cutting slice down the demon’s front. But Kola jumped out of his body again as Yoroi struck and killed the body. A new body formed like before and caught the box.

The old body struck the statue as it fell. Kola and Yoroi ducked out of the way as the statue returned to life and fired another blast of energy.

Kola hurried back to the statue. The woman was wearing a bracelet on each wrist with three indentations each. On each ear was an indentation as that for an earring, and on the brooch of her necklace one more indentation. These were the places the Rathnayas were to rest if and when Gladius Crucis was called upon. Kla opened the box and looked at the nine jewels laid inside. One by one, he began putting them in their respective places.

On the left ear went the black Rathnaya of shadow, the bringer of night.
On the right ear went the white Rathnaya of the moon, the giver of light in the night.
On the left-hand bracelet went the red Rathnaya of fire, the green Rathnaya of earth and stone, and the Rathnaya of thunder. The left hand brings punishment to the wicked, for heaven is vengeful towards those who do evil.
On the right-hand bracelet went the blue Rathnaya of wind, the yellow Rathnaya of water, nectar and ambrosia, and the pink Rathnaya of lights. The right hand brings care to the righteous, for heaven brings fortune to the just and watches over them like a shepherd over sheep.
On the brooch of the necklace went the gold Rathnaya of the Sun, the giver of life, the harbinger of Day and the vanquisher of the darkness.

The nine Jewels glowed bright, and the statue's eyes opened wide....

“NO!â€
He was near exhaustion, but with another yell Yoroi still got up and charged at the demon with a full body slam.
It cannot end this way. I cannot allow it. I WILL not allow it! I CANNOT LOSE!
Kola wrestled with him briefly and shoved him away. One by one from each Jewel flew out the image of its respective TharaJuu: a leviathan from the purple, a dragon from the red, a sphinx from the green, a basilisk from the yellow, a cerynitis from the blue, a griffin from the white, a minotaur from the black, a roc from the pink and a tortoise with an immense palace for a shell from the gold.

The nine beasts flew in a circle above the woman before disappearing. The woman herself stepped back to reveal a metallic circle that rose up from the floor. The circle was the top of a large circular shrine enclosed by a two-door gate. Inside, wrapped in golden chains, was the sheathed Gladius Crucis.

The woman stared at Kola Sanniya with her blank white eyes, but did nothing. Yoroi seized his opportunity: he unleashed a volley at the statue and ducked behind her. Kola gaped at the trick, but could do nothing in time. He was blasted away and tumbled along the floor of the sepulcher. Yoroi rushed to the sword and gingerly took it into his hands.
“I won...†he thought to himself in bewildered fashion. “I actually won.â€
A soft chuckle escaped him as his body began to feel the surge of energy from the weapon. Yoroi stayed there for a moment, kneeling on the ground as he kept his eyes on the sword, staring at his reflection through the scabbard.
“I was never the smartest, or the strongest. I was never the inventor, or the leader. I never had to be…†A smile crept over his features. “I was the crafty one. The one with the tactics, and the subterfuge.†Seemingly redeemed on more than one level, Yoroi stood back up, quickly gathered up the Rathnayas into the chest, and ran out of the sepulcher. There was still a war to win, and he had to get this sword to the team. Only this blade and the nine Rathnayas could finish this once and for all.

He retraced his steps, dipping into the cloud layers below, making his way from one plane of existence to another...to Canaan, to the cloud layer above the planet. The warrior basked in the glow of the sun as it shined down on him and the cloud layer below.
“Hang on guys†he thought to himself determinedly. “I'm coming.â€
Surrounded by a light emanating from the sword, he descended into the clouds…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The black hole began to swallow the closest objects to it. Interestingly, it began to swell and tear a larger and larger opening in the space field. Ikeia gulped as he saw the massive vacuum appear by Obelisk’s doing and, noting Golu Sanniya’s own amazement, knocked him off Rajaliya. The griffin grunted to him.
“I don’t know… he must be crazy.â€

They flew toward MIM. Obelisk directed his TharaJuu forward and pointed KameKoora at Golu.
“I could just let the black hole swallow the both of you and this whole space... but I want to have some fun first!â€
He was enjoying how the enemy had practically handed him an advantage on a silver platter. It was almost too good to be true.
“You have power, but use it like a fool†said Golu.
“Is that supposed to scare me? I’m not the one whose tables have turned.â€
Golu flew up to Obelisk and began grappling with him. They fell off MIM’s head and landed on the mounted palace itself.

Ikeia and Rajaliya flew to MIM and looked up at the giant Obelisk doppleganger.
“So...now what?â€
Biri suddenly flew back and forth, kicking Ikeia in the head. Ikeia was sent reeling away from the griffin, as the Sanniya came near him again, weapon drawn. This time Ikeia grabbed the weapon, holding it with both hands in front of his chest. It wasn't over yet.

Dozens of moons began to glow in the vast expanse of this false universe, lighting up like a second full sky of stars. All of them then seemed to explode, their energy flying into Ikeia, as his suit began to shine as bright as the full moon.
“Die.â€
The energy was channeled up through Biri's weapon and into his body. A strained look contorted on Biri's face as the energy surged through him. In a last roar, he forcibly detached himself from Ikeia, flew backwards into the side of MIM and exploded violently. Golu Sanniya turned to see this spectacle.
“Biri!â€
“That’s two down†Obelisk gloated.
“I wouldn’t start gloating just yet†the demon admonished after a pause, and directed Obelisk to Ikeia. The Gadite’s armor was flickering considerably and he was now floating through space. An alarmed Rajaliya picked him up and brought him toward MIM.
“That show you just put on was breathtaking, but you are now closer to losing your power permanently. You must have felt the drain. Unless you ever get back your jewels, you will soon have nothing.â€
“Well there is nothing to worry about then†said the Issachite. “We’re getting our jewels back, you can count on that! Now, are we going to finish this or keep chatting it up?â€
Golu only shook his head and disappeared. Obelisk snorted and turned to Rajaliya as the griffin perched on the walls of MIM. Ikeia’s weakened body lay before him…

The effects of Saradiel’s arrow tip were beginning to subside. Kira felt herself back in control of her body, albeit a battered and weary one made worse by Sako’s furious attack. Kira's own fury began to increase as she witnessed Saradiel fight Ban and Israfil. How dare he use an innocent girl as a pawn? The residual jewel power began to grow again, brighter and brighter by the second until at last she rose up to her feet.
“Saradiel!â€
The bandit turned to look at her.
“So you’re still alive? I guess that means she dies†he pointed to Sako’s sister. Sako immediately shielded her from whatever the demon had planned.
“The only one dying today is you!†Kira retorted.
“I should like to see you try!â€
Kira tightened her fist. Saradiel, with lightning-quick agility, fired several arrows her way, but they were knocked harmlessly off course by a flying war hammer. The hammer landed heavily, and everyone turned to see who had thrown it.

“Comic!†yelled Ban.
Comic the Asherite soldier had literally come out of nowhere. He ran to Sako and began cutting the cords binding her sister.
“You!†cried out Saradiel.
“Is tormenting children all you can do, Saradiel?†Comic asked as he freed the girl. “You don’t exactly live up to legend.â€
“And what of you, so-called Judges of Canaan? You are nothing here! The Sanniyas will soon finish you all!â€
“I don’t think so.†The residual power was growing in Comic. He was not surrendering. Not now or ever, no matter how they tried to puncture his heart. As Sako’s sister huddled near a wall, he grabbed Sako’s and Kira’s shoulders, using his power to trigger the rise of their own. A shadowy cloud consumed him, and when it dissipated he stood clad in a reduced Tauranger armor. Kira and Sako were encapsulated in an aurora and cyclone respectively, and also emerged in their armors.

“They did it!†said an amazed Israfil. Ban smiled in jubilee. Now it was his and Israfil’s turn, all they needed was to find it within them again.

ToriKasaya straightened into saber mode. Jumping off a fallen shelf, Kira flew toward Saradiel and slashed him in rapid succession. The YakkaJin fell to and rolled on the floor, his body steaming. Sako leapt up, jumped off Kira’s shoulder and stabbed Saradiel in the chest before he could react
“One as heartless as you shouldn't feel that.â€
Saradiel growled and shoved the blade out from him. Sako jumped away, allowing Comic to make his move. He had removed the hammerheads and converted the shaft to its spear mode, KageHellaya. His body surrounded by shadows, he leapt up and with one hard swing sliced across Saradiel’s body. The demon bandit shrieked and fell onto the base of a statue. Ban and Israfil joined the other three, weapons pointed forward.
“It’s over†said Comic.
“It is not over!†yelled Saradiel. With a gesture he teleported Sako’s sister back where he had taken her.
“What did you do?!†demanded Sako.
“Sent her back†Saradiel spat. “For all the good it will do. Ravana-raja won’t spare any of you.â€
“He won’t have a chance to†said Comic. “We’ll find the others and bring your king down.â€
Saradiel snorted. “If you survive the Sanniyas… which I doubt.â€
“Well I suppose we can’t judge based on fighting you, as you’re hardly a substitute for them. But we’re getting out of here, one way or another.â€
Saradiel sneered at Comic’s insult, but did nothing in response but turn and stagger away.
“No you don’t!†said Israfil but Comic laid a hand on him.
“Let him go. We have bigger things to deal with.â€
“How are we going to find the others?†asked Ban.
“And what if more Sanniyas appear?†added Kira.
“If they do†said Comic in an inspiratory voice as though he were commanding armies again “We give them a fight such like they’ve never seen. Come on, and stay together.â€
He led them out of the wrecked library into the maze of passageways…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Ikeia! Ikeia!†Obelisk called as he knelt down and shook him. Ikeia came to and looked up at Obelisk’s helmeted face.
“I thought you Gadites were made of stronger stuff.â€
Ikeia frowned. Obelisk brought him inside the palace.
“So what do we do now?â€
“What else? Find a way out of here.â€
“First we have to find the others.â€
“Yes… we should.â€
All of a sudden they felt MIM lurch. The black hole was continuing to grow and had now caught the mechas in its gravitational pull.
“Get us outta here!â€
“I can’t! We’re too far in its gravitational range.â€
“Then where are we going?â€
“… I don’t know.

Rajaliya clutched onto MIM for dear life. The four found themselves in a void of nothingness. A viewscreen of sorts allowed Ikeia and Obelisk to watch as the miniature universe was destroyed. Eventually the portal opened up at the other end, spitting them out into the familiar blank room. MIM landed on his feet and Rajaliya jumped off. Obelisk and Ikeia exited the palace. They had survived, and were safe.
“I’m not even going to ask how he can fit in here†Ikeia commented, indicating MIM.
Ravana reappeared on the balcony.
“Another of my Sanniyas slain.â€
“That’s right†said Obelisk. “Now where are the rest so we can get rid of them too?â€
Ravana pointed to a screen depicting Ban, Israfil, Sako, Kira and Comic being pursued by the remaining Sanniyas.
“Right now they are occupied with your brethren.â€
“Guess that leaves you. Let’s go.â€
“Oh you are a prideful one. I - â€
The screen suddenly changed. A ray of light came down from the sky as something streaked out of the clouds.
“It is here.â€
“What’s here?†asked Ikeia.
But Ravana had disappeared, leaving the Judges alone in the room.
“Something’s happening on the outside†said Ikeia.
“Well there’s nothing we can do†said Obelisk. “Not unless we get out of here.â€
“We have to find the rest of the Sanniyas. Kill them all and we escape.â€
“If we can believe the rules†muttered Obelisk. “But for now it’s all we have. Let’s get moving.â€
Without waiting for Ikeia, Obelisk jumped onto MIM’s head and ordered him forward. The tortoise issued a call for the other Thaus that could be in the palace. Ikeia jumped on Rajaliya and followed behind…

The battle for Canaan is underway; Ravana and Kola Sanniya pursue Yoroi for Gladius Crucis; the Judges escape the palace and face down the Sanniyas and YakkaJins in a last showdown; and Alpha makes his choice.

Passage 27: “End of Days” – Part 7

Ginijala, whilst fighting Kiliana, arched up an eyebrow as he witnessed Pack’s display. Kiliana sent bolts of lightning toward him. Ginijala deftly dodged these and flew up to kick the girl in the head. Kiliana rolled over and began to get up, but then began feeling a throbbing pain in her head.
“My, you don’t seem well” chided Ginijala.
“Kiliana!” yelled Pack. “Don’t stop, keep going!” He was knocked down by Vedda and was forced back into his own fight. Kiliana tried to heed the advice but was already finding herself burning up, dizzy and light-headed.

Ginijala lifted Kiliana and slammed her into the door of a cell. The mournful wails of the afflicted prisoners ringed in her ears, making her head hurt all the more.
“Get used to those screams” said the Sanniya. “You will be joining them soon.”
He strangled her throat. Kiliana kicked him in the stomach, but he seemed not to feel it. As a shower of sparks from Pack’s armor caught her eye, she began to concentrate all her Elemental Power into her center until it reached the limit. She then released it in one huge burst as an electrical explosion. Ginijala was shocked and thrown aside. Vedda too received electric shocks and was forced to release Pack. Pack himself was protected by his reduced armor, but nevertheless felt a tingle go through his body. The release of energy left Kiliana considerably drained. She collapsed on one knee and gripped her arm. Her armor already was starting to flicker.

Pack saw this and began to worry; she likely wouldn’t withstand another surge of energy like that. As Ginijala regained his bearings, he hastily charged up HebiKalla and fired a single blast. This time Ginijala went down for good, but Vedda was quick to jump back to action, knocking Pack’s cannon away and sending him into a wall. Kiliana stumbled forward, her fists charged with lightning. She threw a flurry of punches at Vedda without pause. Vedda’s face contorted into shocked anger as the energy surged through him and emitted sparks off his body. A final uppercut was the end of him, as he disintegrated in an explosion of electricity and sparks.

Pack rushed over to Kiliana, who now lay face up on the floor in exhaustion. Her fever was beginning to subside, but her armor continued being unstable.
“You all right?”
“The armor…” Kiliana mumbled.
“Your residual power is almost all spent.”
“Already?”
“You used a lot for that burst.”
Kiliana lifted herself to a sitting position. Pack raised her up to her feet.
“Come on, let’s find the others.”
“What about them?” Kiliana waved her hand to the cells. Pack paused a moment. The echoes of something happening outside the palace began trickling down to their level. The slightest of tremors vibrated beneath them. Pack retrieved his cannon and blasted the locks of all the cell doors.
“Everyone, we’re going to find the rest of our team! Try to find a way out; we’ll try to reach you if we can!”
He would rather take them along, but there was no time. He and Kiliana sped down the corridors. Time was running out…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Ahasa, the celestial forces had managed to destroy much of the enemy and coerce the survivors to retreat. Kola Sanniya staggered out of the ruined castle and viewed the Yakko armies crumble. He however was not deterred. As long as Gladius Crucis was in their possession, victory would be guaranteed.

NaYakka slinked up to him and hissed quietly. Finding the path on which Yoroi had escaped, they began to follow…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yoroi descended through the cloud-layer, the chest containing the Rathnayas clasped tightly to his waist. The sword in his hands began to scatter the cloud layer, opening a hole as it pushed through into Canaan. A beam of light extended to the surface, near where the battle was starting, and began to grow wider as the clouds parted.

A magnificent call sounded through the battlefield raging around the palace, as if signaling the turn of the tide. As barrage after barrage of firepower rained down from the Tribes’ artillery, Yoroi’s faithful friend Garasu flew up to him.
“I’m glad to see you again” he said as he hopped onto the bird’s back
“As am I, friend.”
“You’ve certainly been busy.”
“So too have you, as I take it by that sword you carry.”
“I just hope it was worth all the effort.”
“I'm detecting some sort of dark energy on our tail.”

Yoroi seemed momentarily taken aback by Garasu's statement, suddenly very concerned But then his face turned into a tense smirk. “Kola and the snake are still alive.”
“You're not going to do anything?”
Yoroi sighed. “Can't be helped. If I attempt to kill Kola, he'll go somewhere, possibly where I couldn't track. At least right now we know where he is. Keep an eye on him.”
He took the chains wrapped around Gladius Crucis and with some effort removed them, allowing him to unsheathe the sacred blade. Powering it until it burned with a white holy flame, Yoroi had Garasu turn on his side and cut through a line of demons. After a brief run, the bird moved back into a flying position as it neared the palace.
“I hope that's enough of an upset” he said to himself.

Turning his attention to the palace, Yoroi powered up the sword again and held it over his head as if preparing to strike.
“HYIIIIAH!”
He thrust the sword forward, sending attack after attack on the castle, hoping to open up some kind of hole in the wall. Kola Sanniya suddenly leapt down and grabbed Yoroi, trying to drag him down to the ground.

Meanwhile, a heavenly host was descending down to Canaan to join the massive assault…

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cheiron and Sarindhu had been secretly traveling up the MahaweliGanga with a number of Zebulunite militia and professional soldiers. The plan was for them to lead the first charge, and Chebar would follow with the rest of his soldiers and what remained of the Zebulun armada. As the band reached the shores of south Simeon, the scenes and echoes of battle were sighted and heard. The Yakko hordes were battling the rebellion lead by Siddhartha. As they were, the Cananites were not making much progress in breaking through the enemy lines.
“Seems they need a hand” said Sarindhu. A person in the party held up a severed hand. Not caring for the attempt at dry humor, Cheiron snatched the hand away and slapped the would-be joker with it.

At Sarindhu's word the group attacked the Yakko from their left flank…

Alpha awoke. He had spent his time of unconsciousness in debate with himself. The war between the Yakko and the Devas and Canaan had reached its crescendo, and now an invasion of his… people, this Chaos, was going to consume that world and savor its taste. The long-lost alien turned to the direction of that lone insignificant planet. After long deliberation, he had made his decision.

He started streaking toward the cloud of Chaos. The strain of the use of such power almost immediately began taking a toll on his physique. Alpha flew straight into the cloud and began attacking his brethren, trying to scatter them and make his way to the other side. The aliens lashed out and counterattacked as a swarm. Alpha felt himself weaken even more. Picking out single targets was out of the question. In a last-ditch effort, Alpha channeled his power into his hands and shot out a strong, bright burst of energy.

The cloud exploded like a gigantic firework. Some of the beings were burnt up, others crashed into the three moons orbiting the planet, others still scattered far into space. Alpha himself was sent flying down to Canaan and, almost by fate, to Simeon....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As he fought, Gotembara suddenly saw a vision of a great fiery mountain. Several saints stood atop the mountainsides and gazed down upon him. Sariputta stood at the peak, and by his side was a Rakshasa. Gotembara was placed onto a cloud and levitated up to the peak.
“You” he said to the Rakshasa. “You are Vibhishana!”
“I am” said Vibhishana. “Sariputta traveled far to find me. He’s told me everything of what my brother Ravana has done, and of your and the Judges’ heroism.”
“Now the war is drawing to a close” said Sariputta. “It is time for your last act.”
Gotembara stood in silence for a moment. He remembered his last moment with Jayasena.
“....I can't do anything” he said quietly. He felt undeserving of the commendation Vibhishana was giving.
“Say not that you can do nothing” said Sariputta. “You have done much.”

He replayed the scenes of Gotembara saving the Judges from Bahirawa, leading them in the wake of Ban's death, bringing hope to the people during GaraYakka and HiriYakka’s reign, helping Ban save Mahasona from his long torment.... on this last scene the saint lingered the most.
“That was my doing. I brought Jayasena and everyone else that nightmare” he said, turning away.
“Linger not on the past, but focus on the present” counseled Vibhishana. “This world needs liberation. And you must help clear the path for it.”
“But how?”
“With your fellow Giants” said Sariputta.

The other eight Giants stood on the mountain slope. They all smiled upon their comrade. Gotembara slowly smiled back, himself pleased to see them again after so long.”
“This fire has cleansed you. Now use it to cleanse Canaan. We shall follow you.”
The Giants lined up in formation before Gotembara as the vision came to an end...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gotembara returned to the real world. His fellow Giants had appeared before him, same as he had seen them before. Some of the combatants close by paused to admire the sight of these most legendary of warriors.
“We are ready” said Khanjadeva. “Are you?”
Gotembara nodded to them. With a loud battle cry, a cry full of passion, he led the Giants into battle. For Jayasena, for Ahasa, for the Judges, for Canaan. He would fight to his last...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Siddhartha slew a Yakka and turned skyward. He saw Yoroi come down from Ahasa and attack Ravana’s palace itself, as well as a host of heavenly warriors coming as reinforcements for the Canaanites. The sound of a war horn echoed several miles away, and several teams of soldiers bearing the emblem of a wolf could now be seen entering the fray.

zgfxbenjaminv01.jpg

The long-awaited Benjamites had arrived and were now breaking through the Yakko lines.

Siddhartha ran toward Yoroi, cutting through Yakko as he went. He fired a few flares from his weapon at Kola Sanniya, who was locked in combat with the hero…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yoroi rolled over across the ground. Everything had happened so suddenly, although part of him cursed himself for not noticing Kola reaching up behind him, especially when he knew the Sanniya's whereabouts. Using the momentum of his body, he flipped over back onto his knee, and with the sword in his hand, pointed it at Kola as he was now engaged with Siddhartha.
“You want the sword?” He pulled out his ax lance again, now charged with the energies of the sword, and stood with both weapons. “Well...today's your lucky day.”

Power surged through Yoroi. He sprinted forward, making a motion to attack with his powered-up lance. Meanwhile Garasu grew giant and transformed into SeiNephilim. Holding his three-pronged sword-staff at the ready, he began cutting away at the giant YakkaJuus that were attacking, among them a squirrel LenaYakka, an owl BakamunYakka, and a porcupine IthawYakka…

Maru, Amuku, Gulma, Deva and Kala Sanniyas stood before the three.
“Where do you think you’re going?” asked Kala.
“The game isn’t over yet” added Maru.
Comic and the girls huddled together as the demons approached. Kira tried showering them with a cloud of flashing lights, but Gulma extinguished it. Kala released a swarm of plague-infected rats. Sako tried shooting the rats as they approached, but there were too many.
“Now?”
“NOW!” yelled Comic.

A stream of fire swept over the Sanniyas, followed by a barrage of stones broken off from the palace structure. Ban and Israfil flipped over the other three, now clad in their reduced armors.

Dragonrangerv2.png
Leoranger.png

“That residue won’t save you” said Amuku.
“Maybe not’ said Israfil. “But we can at least end this ‘game’.”
The five Judges clashed one-on-one with the five Sanniyas: Kiliana with Maru, Ban with Amuku, Israfil with Gulma, Sako with Deva, and Kira with Kala. A great rumbling suddenly interrupted the fight; Maha Ibba Maligawa and Rajaliya crashed through a distant wall of the foyer, Ikeia and Obelisk riding atop the former’s head. MIM arranged the riding castle into cannon mode and fired two blasts, scattering the Sanniyas and leaving gaping craters in the floor. Some supporting pillars were obliterated and brought parts of the ceiling crashing down.
“Obelisk!” said Ban.
Obelisk gave a small wave and joined the team with Ikeia.
“Your master is up to something on the outside.”
The Judges turned in surprise. Gulma Sanniya tapped his chin.
“Kola has found the sword then.”
“Sword?” asked Comic. “You don’t mean - ”
“Gladius Crucis” whispered Kira.
“Smart girl” said Gulma. “Your jewels unlock the Gate around that sword. With it Ravana-raja will crush both you and the Devas.”
“I beg to differ” said a voice. Pack and Kiliana materialized from a winding passageway and joined their comrades. “Ravana won’t have the sword long enough to do that.”
“And who will stop him? You?” said Maru. “Your power is almost spent, and you’re still locked in here.”
“Not for long” declared Sako. “We’re not stopping until you’re all gone.”

The fourteen Sanniyas stared down the nine Judges. More rumbles from outside made the palace shudder and collapse more. Soon pieces of ceiling began raining down constantly on the two sides, precluding the chance for continuing the battle.
“The palace is collapsing!” said Israfil. He stopped a large piece from falling over the group and levitated it harmlessly away.
“Let’s get outta here!” said Ikeia. They scrambled under MIM’s tremendous girth to void the falling debris. The Sanniyas attempted a pursuit, but were soon cut off by piles of stone and marble. Eight streaks of light further delayed them; the other TharaJuus assembled before MIM and shrunk to equine form.

Through the destruction the Judges rode, trying to find some way out. Comic eventually spotted two large doors in the distance. The outside sounds were louder than ever, indicating that this was a possible exit.
“This way!”
An explosion from behind declared the Sanniyas’ pursuit. Faster the Judges rode toward the doors. Kiliana, Ban and Israfil sent lightning, fire and stone to break them open, to no avail. The Sanniyas were closing in…

A blast from outside then sent a shower of debris lying toward them. The Judges lost sight of each other as they plowed through, but continued onward. No one would stop until they reached the outside…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A whole side of Ravana’s palace had been blown apart by a combined effort of the Tribes’ artillery. The ground forces peered through the dust; many of them hoped to see some sort of glimpse into the abode of the dreaded Yakko king. What they got was far more wondrous and elevating of spirit. Eight figures on marvelous horses were charging through the cloud and into the battle.

“The Judges!” cried some. “The Judges are back!”
The word spread quickly throughout the battlefield, until a chorus of huzzahs echoed across the Canaanite fighters. Hope renewed, they continued their offensive on the demons and palace both. The Judges joined in, attacking Yakko left and right from their mounted position.

Dodging the attacks at the palace, Ikeia took a moment to take in the battle that was raging around them. Where had Ravana gone? It'd take forever to find him in this. He glanced back at the rest of the team, knowing full well this might be the last time he'd see them. Taking in this information for a second, he turned back around, and spurred Rajaliya onward.

Obelisk let out a quiet curse as the castle was blasted apart and began to crumble, straining his powers to shift his body into pure sunlight. In this form, he was able to travel at the speed of light...but was unable to truly interact with the world around him. As such, he instantaneously appeared in the middle of the battlefield. Shifting back into a tangible form, the Issachite Judge spun and lashed out with a powerful kick, sending a nearby lesser Yakka flying away.

“Damn...”
Comic happened to glance to one side as Yoroi and Siddhartha fought Kola Sanniya. A further examination revealed Ravana moving toward Kola. Comic used Haraka to part the waves of Yakko, swinging his hammer to and fro.
“Israfil!” he called to the astronaut who was riding beside him. “How about a level up?”
Israfil got the hint. Swinging down from Singhaya, he stabbed ShishiMugura into the ground and conjured a bridge-like mound of earth to rise, scattering the demons. Comic rode up this mound and urged his fellow Judges to follow as he went toward Ravana. Reching the other side, they knocked down some more demons and dismounted their steeds.
“Go give Ibba and Nephilim a hand” Comic instructed. Haraka nodded and lead the others away. They transformed into their true forms; Makara, Singhaya, Sarpiya and Muwa combined to TharaDeviyo Ushas, and Thalmaha, Rajaliya, Haraka and Ukussa combined to TharaDeviyo Urmya.

Ushas flew over the battle on her enormous pair of dragon wings. Urmya did the same with her double pairs of griffin and roc wings. Together they began attacking the YakkaJuus and Ulama air force…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While battling Siddhartha, Kola Sanniya heard Yoroi charging toward him. In the blink of an eye, he grabs Fang and whirls him around. Yoroi’s lance and the Gladius Crucis struck Siddhartha in the torso. Siddhartha cried out as the holy weapon sliced right through his armoring and drew blood. He looked at Yoroi, grabbed his arm as he dropped down to his knees, and finally slumped over on his back…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Armed with twenty different weapons, Ravana barreled through the Canaanite forces, slaying anyone close enough. One or two flying machines swooped down for an attack, but were easily destroyed by a blast of his eye beams. He only stopped upon seeing a Rakshasa fighting alongside his enemies: his younger brother Vibhishana.
“Vibhishana!”
Vibhishana laid eyes on his eldest brother, the first time in many a millennium.
“Malli…” said the king again. “You have broken your vow.”
“Yes, Aiya” said Vibhishana. “I can’t let this continue.”
“You knew it would come to this once I took the throne. Even so, you agreed to exile because I spared you.”
“And now Kumbhakarna is dead. I’m the last of your kin. Must I die too so you can conquer the Devas?”
“I tried to spare the two of you. But Kumbhakarna joined my enemies and had a bad end. Don’t make the same mistake, Malli. I cannot save you this time.”
Vibhishana paused. The battle raged around them, but the spot the brothers stood on lay undisturbed.
“I bear little love for Ahasa myself, so do not misunderstand my allegiance. Nor must you with Kumbhakarna. He knew what you were doing was too far, so he was willing to break his abstinence to stop you. I was willing to let you carry out your vision, but Sariputta changed my mind. This has gone on far enough. It ends here!”
Ravana glowered. “You will fight me?”
“You left me no choice.”

Even as he said it Vibhishana retained some hope. But his eyes widened as the twenty limbs attacked. He managed to dodge the first two strikes and blocked a third with his sword. Another hand latched onto the weapon and hurled both it and Vibhishana across the field. The younger Rakshasa landed roughly and tightened his fist as he saw Ravana continue toward the Gladius Crucis.
“You know you can’t use that sword! This is madness!”
Some of Ravana’s auxiliary heads turned and fired energy blasts at Vibhishana, forcing him back. He soon disappeared into the sea of clashing armies...

“Siddhartha!”
Sako stared at Siddhartha's body for a moment, fearing the worst. She ran up to him and knelt down.
“Hey....Siddhartha....wake up....” Sako stuttered at her words, and then turned to Kola Sanniya.
“You...”
She choked the handle of her crossbow and shot a venomous look at the cruel Sanniya.

A slow and painful realization washed over Yoroi as he realized what he had done. His eyes widened in sheer horror at his mistake. His heart skipped a beat, his breath stopped for a moment. A moment that seemed like an eternity as Siddhartha's body slumped to the ground. Everything seemed to stop. It was all fuzzy. How? How again? No... not again...

Dargel watched breathlessly as Techni's body was destroyed by the single shot from the Gingamora.

Dargel, heavily injured and stumbling through the destroyed cityscape, glanced back at PRF7's inert form. Near him, he could see Omega's dead body lying unceremoniously in the rubble.

Dargel winced as he saw Drego fall. His consciousness was slipping from him, but he could still make out Aqua's last words: “I...NEED....YOU!”

“Why do you fight”

Yoroi was slammed in the head by Ravana and tumbled over a few feet, landing in the dirt a short walk away. Ravana then fired eye beams squarely at the gathered Judges’ chests, forcibly removing their armors and leaving them sprawled on the ground.
“The power’s gone…” said Kira after a moment. They could no longer summon their armor.

Yoroi looked up at the multi-limbed king, noting that Siddhartha's inert body lay behind him. He returned to that conversation he and the prophet had had, just before Yoroi's trip into heaven. Of Siddhartha's will. Of why he fought. Of who Siddhartha was. And now, he was dead or soon would be. Yoroi had killed him. He was...was...

“You can’t control or be held responsible for everything that happens.”

No. It had been Kola Sanniya and his master Ravana.

“I fight...for JUSTICE.”

So much was going through his mind. The sins, the failures, the nightmares, the possessions, the inability to be what he should have, the horrors he had helped caused and witnessed, his inaction as those he loved died around him, his flirting with darkness, his stupid arrogance... He had all this sowed up, hadn't he? Hadn't he? Hadn't he known that it hadn't been his fault?

...Hadn't he?

As he stood up, Yoroi screamed. Not just any scream, but one that seemed to echo beyond just sound, but the air itself. Vibrations through the air, like a sonic scream. An unearthly scream, which would make even the saints shiver. Gladius Crucis’s power flooded into him. As his scream of pain ended, he looked at Ravana and Kola Sanniya with an expression of pure rage, tears rolling down his helmeted face. He pointed the sword at the two demons and unleashed a powerful front of celestial energy at them. For a full five seconds, it seemed as everything else dimmed.

Kola Sanniya was sliced diagonally across his torso. He froze in place for a moment before falling over and exploding, leaving a bright white fire where he had stood. Ravana was thrown off his feet and landed several yards away on his back. Ten of his immense arms detached from his body and lay withered in the dust. The Rakshasa king roared up into the sky at this humiliation.

Yoroi then turned his head towards the Judges.
“Judges! Here are your jewels! Take them and this sword, and kill this bastard!”
He opened the chest and the nine Rathnayas flew out to their masters. Upon reaching them they reformed the Jewel Braces around their wrists. Yoroi’s eyes seemed to roll back. His body, overstrained from the power of the sword, dropped to its knees before keeling over completely. Steam and sparks flew the damaged armor. Gladius Crucis, freed from his grip, lay vulnerable near him…

Siddhartha slowly took Sako's hands and looked up to her. His mind went back to the hilltop in Naphtali, and the marker for Sako's sister. The prophet couldn't guess how he knew this, but he sensed that there would at least be one happy ending in this epic. He looked up at Sako once more and spoke.
“She is safe...”

The eight Giants came up to the fallen prophet. Gotembara knelt down and looked to Sako.
“Go.”
Sako just stared at herself for a moment. So it wasn't all for nothing after all. Her sister was safe, they had their jewels back... there was only one loss, and that loss was not going to be in vain.
“This is for you” Sako whispered to Siddhartha. Her eyes gave a cold angry stare at Ravana.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obelisk grimaced as he witnessed Yoroi’s slaying of Kola Sanniya and subsequent declaration. As his Jewel Brace reformed and he felt the surge of its power flow through him, he picked up Gladius Crucis in his right hand. Yoroi’s words echoed in his head. They would need both the sword and the Rathnayas to defeat Ravana?
“Difficult, considering how the rest felt about you...but not impossible. You can simply take the Jewels by force, if need be.”
“What’re you talking about?”
“We’re at the home stretch here. Don’t you see? This is your chance to show the world what you are! What Issachar was and still is! Kill Ravana and you will win yourself lordship not only over Issachar, but all the Tribes! You were waiting until after the war to make your move, well you can make it now!”
Obelisk nodded. His right eye shifted from bright green to a blood-red color behind his visor as he stepped forward over Yoroi, who was rapidly losing consciousness. As he spoke, his voice was a harmonious blend of his own and Shimron’s.
“Fear not, all shall be done as is necessary.”

Obelisk stared down Ravana as he extended his right arm, pointing the blade at his opponent. He spoke to the other Judges but did not bother to turn his head.
“Help the others...eliminate the rest, then come to my aid. I will hold off this...pretender.”
There was an odd inflection in his fused voice as he said the last word, an odd sort of resentment and disgust. It was gone in the next moment though, as he returned his full focus on the demon king before him. He made no further speeches, simply sliding effortlessly into a defensive stance with the Gladius Crucis at the ready. The time for talking was done. The time for battle had now truly arrived.
“No.” said Kira
Obelisk whipped around. Kira and the rest stood side by side with Obelisk
“We fight together.”
Obelisk frowned but said nothing for the time being. As long as he had the sword…

The remaining Sanniyas, the nine YakkaJins, Aimana’s three retainers, Sunniya’s ten retainers and Kalu Kumara’s seven Vanda-bisavun all assembled before Ravana, ready to guard their king. The nine Judges brought their Jewel Braces to their chests and transformed into their full armored forms.

“Judge of Napthali…. Cerynger!”
“Judge of Gad…. Griffinger!”
“Judge of Asher…. Tauranger!”
“Judge of Issachar…. Chelonger!”
“Judge of Zebulun…. Falconger!”

With that they charged toward Ravana. The Yakkini retainers attacked first; Kira and Israfil took three each, while the rest each tackled two. Signature moved from their jewel-charged weapons made short work of them. Next came the YakkaJins, one for each Judge:
Kiliana vs. Aturu
Ban vs. Aimana
Israfil vs. Kasyapa
Pack vs. KaluYakka
Obelisk vs. Sunniya
Sako vs. Saradiel
Ikeia vs. Vata Kumara
Kira vs. Kuveni
And lastly Comic vs. Kalu Kumara.

Comic was slashed from front and back, and landed hard on the ground. He raised his arms in defense as the black prince madly hacked away with his sword.
“This time you will die!”
Comic shrouded himself in shadows and vanished from view. He reappeared behind Kalu Kumara wearing the hammer knuckles and delivered a one-two across the chest and head. The demon retaliated by throwing a boomerang-shaped blade, cutting Comic twice across the sides. He dropped to the ground. Kalu Kumara leapt for the kill…

But Comic was ready with a charged KageHellaya. He hurled it like a javelin straight into the YakkaJin’s chest as he came upon him. He rolled away as his foe slid ungracefully across the ground.
“You were saying?”
Kalu Kumara stumbled. He took a large knife and hurled it at Comic in a final slight against him as he went down. Comic caught the knife and watched his enemy in satisfaction. The prince’s raging cry tuned out the explosion of his fallen body.

Subsequent explosions and dispersing of spirits indicated the defeat of the other YakkaJins by his teammates. The Sanniyas now ran forward like a wall. Comic joined the rest and together they powered up with their Rathnayas. They joined together in a large comet-like object and drove right through the Sanniyas’ bodies, destroying them in one quick blow.

The comet separated back into the nine. Now all that remained was Ravana.
“There’s no one to hide behind now” said Pack…

Ravana charged forward like a bull, his footfalls leaving large dents in the ground. Quickly, he knocked Israfil and Pack down, but was hit on both sides by Kiliana’s boomeranging shield. Kira moved in zigzags and slashed Ravana's chest and back. Ban finally came down and delivered a fiery slash down the king's torso. Ravana flipped backward with surprising maneuverability and landed hard on his feet. The lacerations on his body glowed bright red and gave off steam.
“Intriguing.”

For some reason, Sako had a bad feeling about Obelisk. Something about him made her not trustful. But she'd have to deal with that later. Carefully aiming at one of Ravana's many heads, she fired several shots at once. Obelisk growled deeply in annoyance. Their efforts showed some effectiveness, but they failed to look at the long term picture. How were they to bring down Ravana if they were interrupted by his minions? The ignorance of these would-be heroes sent a pulse of anger racing through him, and his grip on the Gladius Crucis tightened in response. The sword glowed with a white light as he moved with lightning speed, slashing twice at the king's exposed back: once upward from bottom left to top right, and then again from bottom right to top left. He then ducked beside Sako and the others.
“If, when the time comes, we are interrupted because you all felt the need to interfere...we'll rip your Jewels away from you ourselves.”
An aura of conflicted energies surrounded Obelisk as he shot forward, his own frustration and annoyance clashing with the serenity and holiness of the Gladius Crucis. He launched into a series of slashes and stabs with the enchanted blade, aiming mainly at Ravana's chest and many arms and necks.

“What the hell is that guy’s problem?” Israfil wondered aloud. Deciding to ignore Obelisk’s strange threat, Kira picked up Israfil as she used her whip to swing from a flying machine, then dropped him over Ravana. Israfil, charging up ShishiMugura with his Rathnaya, struck Ravana on the head…

While fighting alongside Sarindhu, Cheiron stumbled across the injured Siddhartha, who had lifted himself to a sitting position against a rock. Sariputta then appeared next to him.
“You!” He had not forgotten the encounter with this saint when he and Sarindhu had tried to abscond with the pink Rathnaya. It now felt so long ago. He expected some kind of admonishment, but Sariputta offered the ex-pirate a white staff he had been using.
“Take this.”
Cheiron stared. “I don't understand...”
“You will.”
Sariputta lifted Sidhartha to his feet. The prophet felt the saint’s power strengthen him just enough for a slow walk. Together they moved toward the Highest Hill, leaving Cheiron alone to ponder the meaning of this exchange.

Sarindhu meanwhile continued cutting down demons. Ushas, Urmya and MIM attacked the towering palace…

Ravana shuddered as Sako shot one of his heads clean off his body. It landed on the ground, shattering like a juice-laden melon. Israfil's strike sliced apart one of his crowns. When Obelisk made his move, he absorbed several blows before grabbing the Judge's sword arm and kicked him in the groin and stomach. Obelisk was thrown aside. Ravana's body was showing signs of deterioration from the sheer power of the Gladius Crucis, but was still going strong.
“Do you think I would allow myself the same shortcomings as when I last faced that blade?”
Coming up from behind, Ikeia launched into the air and came down on Ravana with his jewel-charged twin swords. One of Ravana’s heads caught sight of the ambush and a hand grabbed Ikeia so that he landed in front of him instead.
“Surely you know better than that.”
He threw a strong punch to Ikeia's chest.

Obelisk got back to his feet from where he had been crouched and reaffirmed his grip on the Gladius Crucis. He rushed forward again: his left hand was surrounded by intense solar energies as he raised it and punched Ravana in the stomach, the force of the strike pushing him back. Obelisk next twisted his body and brought the holy sword up in a rising slash, aimed directly at one of the king’s remaining hands. Another limb dropped to the ground.
“You’re making it too easy!”
Ravana cocked an eyebrow on his main head. “Am I?”
The severed hand flew up and grabbed Ban's throat in a vice grip. Ravana held out his handless arm and shot a stream of poisonous blood at the Judges. Kiliana, Kira, Comic, Pack and Israfil were all showered until Sako used her Elemental Power to unleash a strong gust of wind, blowing it away toward the ground. Sako next shot an arrow to destroy the severed hand choking Ban.

“You gotta be kidding me!” cried Kiliana.
She blocked the rocks with her shield and released a surge of electricity to obliterate them. She then charged the shield with her jewel, released the blades and hurled it toward Ravana. Israfil used his own powers to conjure up some great mounds of earth to ram into the demon, and Pack fired HebiKalla in rapid succession. Kira charged up ToriKasyapa and flogged Ravana several times at long-distance. Comic ended the offensive with a blow from a charged UshiMitiya.

Ravana was forced back from the onslaught of attacks. All around the lakebed, explosions flew out. Ravana himself gushed out sparks from his damaged armor. Before the Judges could close in, however, Ravana conjured a rain of unworldly fire to sweep over everyone. Ban, being immune to this via his fire power, charged through the rain and swung RyuKaduwa at Ravana. Ravana merely grabbed him, smashed his head against Obelisk's, and snatched the Gladius Crucis from his hands.

Ravana perched atop a large rock on the ground and held out his long-sought prize. The blade that defeated him long ago would now bring down his enemies for good. The sword glowed a fiery white as the king of the Yakko pointed it toward the Judges and flashed ten big smiles.

A large crack formed Obelisk’s and Ban’s visors. With the sword ripped away, Obelisk stumbled back and raised one hand to his head.
“Useless sacks of flesh...”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gotembara had been locked in a fierce duel with NaYakka. He was knocked to the ground near the edge of the dried-up lake. The cobra YakkaJu pounced and Gotembara responded with a swift stab, but he couldn’t escape getting bitten by the cobra YakkaJuu’s poison-laden fangs. Immediately Gotembara's body became varicose. He dropped to his knees and was kneed in the head by his opponent, making him roll down the slope to where the Judges were fighting. NaYakka disintegrated into a mass of cobras and vaporized.

Gotembara lay on the ground as the poison took its toll on his body. Turning his head, he saw the theft by Ravana of the Gladius Crucis.
“No… not now...”
Growling in agony, he got to his feet and hobbled over to the scene…

Swinging the Gladius Crucis in one stroke, Ravana unleashed a giant slash across the battlefield. SeiNephilim and the goddesses Ushas and Urmya went down, and MIM shrieked as his palace shell suffered intense structural damage. Hundreds of celestial host battling nearby were felled at once.

The Judges sparked heavily and crashed onto the ground. Obelisk rocked side to side on his back.
“Get up! We cannot allow this...this poser to defeat us!”
“I'm...trying...”
“No...you do it, or you don't do it. No trying!”
“Shut up!”
The other Judges gave him odd looks for yelling at no-one, but Obelisk ignored them. Blood dripped out of the hole in his helmet from a gash below his left eye as he managed to get to his feet. KameKoora was used as a balance to bring him to a standing position as he stared down Ravana. He did not look at the others as he spoke, but when he did, his voice was...different. Not his own, perhaps.
“We need to get that sword away from him. Time for you lot to step it up a notch.”

As the holder of the gold Rathnaya he had the power to manipulate and control the powers of the other Judges. His power was the Key. Up until now though, he had never taken advantage of that attribute. The time had now come.

Tendrils of golden energy shot out of the orb at the end of the scepter, shooting through the air to impact every other Judge in the center of their chests. Each found themselves revitalized, all injuries and fatigue gone and powered up with some of the gold Rathnaya’s power. After a moment, the tendrils vanished as Obelisk turned toward Ravana and smirked beneath his repaired visor.
“Be a good boy and give us back the sword before you hurt yourself” he threatened, his voice now returned to normal.
Ravana snorted. “Do you think you can handle this power?” He hadn't shown it, but he was in truth beginning to feel the effects of using such a weapon not meant for him. He shot twenty eye beams from his ten heads at the Judges, setting off more explosions and scattering them further. Obelisk ran through the attack in a mad run. Unimpressed, Ravana raised the sword and thrust it down toward Obelisk in a downward stabbing maneuver. Before he met his mark, however, he was stopped by a strong pair of hands....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gotembara caught Ravana's arm just as he was about to stab Obelisk. By now the saint had withered considerably from NaYakka’s poison, but his resolve remained unbroken. He stared down the Rakshasa and remembered the wars past, the lives lost, the blood shed, Jayasena his friend entangled in the darkness of because of this demon.... and because of himself.
“No more Ravana…”
He tore the Gladius Crucis, vibrating from the intensity of its own power, from Ravana's grip and quickly slashed downward across his body. Ravana yelled out as sparks, steam and blood flew, and rolled to the ground. But Gotembara, already weakened from his ordeal, could control the holy blade for long. Ravana got back on his feet and, grinning widely, shoved the blade into Gotembara's heart.

(‘Tachigataki Omoi’ from Seiju Sentai Gingaman)

Gotembara’s insides went ablaze from the power of the sword. With an ear-splitting yell, he began to disintegrate before everyone's eyes. Ravana maliciously twisted the still-lodged blade to intensify the pain. As Gotembara evaporated, he looked up into the dark sky. His mind flashed back to a sunny field atop a hill. Green grass, golden sun, fair maidens frolicking. The world was young. The ten Giants were together. And Jayasena was by his side.

With that last thought, Gotembara vaporized completely. Small drops of cleansing flame rained down on the ground.

“Gotembara-hamu!”
This was the last straw. Sako poured all her jewel’s energy into KazePihiya. Tightly gripping her blade, she swung it and released a powerful gale. Then she ran behind it, to give Ravana as many blows as she could.

Comic and Pack stood stock-still, absorbing the impact of Gotembara’s act. As the heavenly fire began to rain down and Sako charged, Comic phased out of sight as he became shrouded in shadow.

He reappeared high in the air, hammer fists over his arms. Charging them up with his jewel, he threw as many punches as he could toward the demon king. Pack charged up his cannon and fired a large single burst of energy to the waist.

Aiming their swords at Ravana, Ikeia and Ban powered up their weapons with silver lunar energy and fire respectively. However, before they could attack, Ban felt a hand grasp his right shoulder. Another one grabbed Ikeia’s right arm at the wrist. Ikeia's eyes widened as he saw who they belonged to…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yoroi seemed to be struggling just to stay conscious, but there he was, helmetless and half-kneeling. He was breathing heavily, as if trying to keep from passing out. He was half-gone already, but by sheer will he had managed to keep himself from being knocked out completely.
“Aim...for his...fist” he whispered, and began charging up the energy he had left in his armor’s reserves.
“This...is for Siddhartha. And Gotembara. And everyone else you've hurt” the tired warrior said quietly in determination. He channeled his collected energy into his gun.
“Now!” He fired the gun, and Ikeia and Ban let forth cutting waves of energy. Having spent the boost of power, Yoroi dropped back down, but was caught by Ikeia.
“Are you ok?”
Yoroi just smiled weakly as he once more began to slip away…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ravana stumbled backward from Sako’s gale, but managed to knock her down before she could cut him. But he missed Comic and Pack, and was thus hit several times on the front and once on the side. Next came Ban, Ikeia and Yoroi’s combined attack, and then Kiliana, Kira and Israfil. They raced to and fro, delivering finishers to the Yakko king. Finally Ban came running in and severed the hand holding Gladius Crucis with a slice from his blade. Ravana roared and smacked Ban away. They all watched as the sword flew into the air... and was caught by a glowing figure plummeting down from the depths of space. “Alpha!” exclaimed Israfil.
Alpha did an about turn to face the Judges and Ravana, Gladius Crucis vibrating intensely in his hand.
“You...” growled Ravana.
“Everyone!” cried the alien. “You’ve brought more doom to this world than you realize! I’ve taken care of that threat, but it won’t be gone unless this war ends.”
He pointed a finger to Ravana. “And that means destroying you, Ravana!”
A faint smile formed on Obelisk's lips as he stepped forward, his helmet winking out of existence to show the alien his face.
“Alpha...I was wondering where you'd gone off to.”
“I’m glad you’re still alive” Alpha sincerely responded.
“I see my gift to you did some good.” Obelisk's eyes darkened to a murky green-black as he shifted his gaze to Ravana.
“What're you waiting for, an engraved invitation?” he asked the other Judges. “Keep fighting!”

Alpha was likely the only one to be able to understand the mirth in those words. His eyes gradually lightened back to their usual emerald green, his pupils dilated to almost twice their normal size by the adrenaline generated from the thrill of battle. There were only two people here he felt he could trust with his life: Alpha and Yoroi, because of the time they had spent safeguarding him during his illness. When Obelisk finally ascended, he would not forget these beings from the stars.

Cheiron arrived on scene bearing Sariputta's staff. Sarindhu and Chebar had led their forces in a successful push through the enemy lines. The battlefield was littered with blood and dead bodies from both sides. Now the pirate stood before Ravana with renewed vigor, having witnessed the surprise return of Alpha.
“It ends here, Ravana!”

He pointed the glowing staff at the king. He then called for all Judges to come to his side.
“Give it all you've got!”
The Judges came together and gathered the energies from their respective Jewels into the head of the staff. A large multi-colored sphere blossomed from it.
“Useless...” said Ravana, shaking his heads. He started moving forward. The sphere grew larger as more energy was added. At last it launched itself from the staff past Ravana and splashed onto Gladius Crucis, infusing it with its energy. Alpha felt the sword jerk. His hands shook uncontrollably as he clutched the sword handle. A mighty roar left his lips as he ran to Ravana and swung the holy blade in an arc directly at Ravana's chest…

But so great was the sword’s power that he could not control its path. The swing lacked proper strength. With his remaining left arms, Ravana smacked Alpha high into the air. The sword left his hands and went along with him, then plummeted down and stabbed itself into the ground some distance away, still charged with the Rathnayas’ energies. Alpha landed in a heap and lay still.
“Alpha!” yelled Israfil and Obelisk. But Ravana fired another round of energy beams from his eyes, sending the Judges and Cheiron flying away. Laughing triumphantly, Ravana began moving toward the sword…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ban held his torso as he lay on the ground. Ravana was approaching the sword. In a matter of moments he would finish them off. It was over…

No. A voice seemed to echo in his head, telling him to rise. It was coming from the sword itself. Ban looked at the sacred weapon. The voice kept encouraging him to stand and continue the fight. Slowly he began getting on his knees.
“Who…. What are you?”
“Stand up Ban! Take me and slay this demon!”
“Why me….”
“Because you need to.”
Ban didn’t understand at first. He then remembered back when he first arrived on this world. Since then he had been on a long, wild, harrowing adventure. Slowly but surely, he had broken out of his shell of agnosticism and arrogance to emerge with a belief in something higher than himself; that there were things to truly live for, to fight for.

His past exploits flashed before him: his first battle, meeting Mahasona, the last clash with Gad, solidifying the kinship with the Judges, his death, his resurrection and Mahasona’s salvation, urging the others to keep the faith during the Sanniyas’ game.

He was a changed man. Everything now came down to this moment. By conquering Ravana and the Yakko, he would conquer himself.

Ban stood and released a column of fire between Ravana and Gladius Crucis. Ravana turned and cast a furious look. Ban leapt toward the sword, slashing across Ravana’s front with RyuKaduwa. He somersaulted and landed his feet, ripping the sword from the ground.
“No…” Obelisk muttered to himself. He needed to bring down Ravana.
“What are you doing?! Get that sword!”
But Ban was already facing Ravana. Gladius Crucis and the ignited RyuKaduwa were both at the ready.
“What’s this? The non-believer is the one who tries to end me?”
“Ironic, isn’t it?” said Ban.
“Come on, Ban!” called Comic. The others minus Obelisk joined in, lifting Ban’s spirits evermore.
“You’ve made a lot of trouble for these people, Ravana, much less me and Havok. I just might enjoy finishing you.”
“You think so, don’t you? Look around. Will it have been worth it? This world was destroyed long the Judges returned. Its soul was lost. You were already too late to save it.”
“It’s never too late. Canaan as it is may die today, but tomorrow it will be born again. Redemption is possible!”
“You of all people don’t believe that!”
“I do! I’m proof of it!”
Ban assumed an attack pose.
And today I… we… are saving tomorrow from you!”

They stood before each other for a moment. Dust swirled around them and dropped back down, as if a signal to commence. Ravana used his eight arms to gather up various weapons strewn aside by the soldiers and ran to Ban. Ban did likewise, brandishing both swords. Bright light and roaring fire from the two obscured the combatants from view as they clashed. Ravana swung, thrust, and stabbed his weapons in a relentless frenzy at Ban. Ban did his best to counter, but could not stop them all. Sparks flew off his back, arms and legs. He ducked as a massive swing just missed his neck. With a loud yell he aimed for Ravana’s heads and arms. One by one he began hacking them off, taking hits, and then hacking some more. Some of the severed heads and arms attacked by themselves, but Ban skewered and sliced them apart respectively. Ravana did not seem to feel the blows, but continued cutting and slashing away.

Finally, only two heads and one pair of arms remained. Both Ban and Ravana knelt down on one knee, catching their breath. Ban was almost beyond his limits. But the power of his comrades’ jewels, their belief in him, and his belief in himself urged him to keep going. One more time he swung. The last auxiliary head was removed and shattered on the rocks. Ban touched the two swords together. Gladius Crucis’s power plus the combined jewel powers fed into RyuKaduwa’s fire, making it burn brighter than ever. Likewise, RyuKaduwa’s power added into Gladius Crucis. Ban lunged forward and impaled both blades deep into Ravana’s torso in a shower of steam, sparks and blood.

The light and fire display disappeared, bringing the two back into view. Ravana gave a roar that resonated throughout the planet. The two swords remained lodged in him, Ban having let go in exhaustion. The other Judges rushed to his side and watched as explosions rocketed off Ravana’s body. The energy from the Gladius Crucis splashed out over the ground, setting off larger explosions all around. Ravana gripped Gladius Crucis and, to the surprise of everyone, absorbed the combined jewel power into himself. He tore both swords out and stabbed them into the ground.

The Judges looked at Ravana. He looked beaten, but he clearly had one more trick up his sleeve.
“You will not save tomorrow, Judges… for tomorrow will not come!”
“What are you talking about?” Pack demanded.
Ravana grew into a giant caped figure. A large intimidating helmet with bull and deer horns adorned his head. The rest of his body was likewise decorated with attributes of the Rathnayas’ respective TharaJuus. In his hands were a giant scimitar and a great twin-headed spear made from the jewels’ energies.

He kicked away the remains of the castle and stabbed the immense spear into the ground. Several waves of energy at a time spread from the spear through the air and ground, across all of Canaan. The Judges were knocked down and sparked heavily. Explosions went off all around them and the soldiers fighting.
“Tomorrow will not come, for today I will destroy this planet!”

*Yakko Theme plays*
(‘Yami no Kajin ~Youma no Theme~’ from Sekai Ninja Sen Jiraiya)

“How did – how?!” Obelisk spluttered, not daring to believe that Ravana now seemed stronger than ever.
“Now what do we do??” cried Kira.
“What indeed?” asked Ravana rhetorically in a booming voice.

The spirits of the YakkaJins, Sanniyas, and fallen demons from the present battle were swirling around beneath the clouds. Ravana opened his now-gargantuan mouth and swallowed them all, increasing his power even more. The spear continued releasing waves of energy at constant intervals, continually knocking the Judges down as they tried to move forward.
“What is it doing?” asked Sako.
Comic studied the giant spear. As it slowly buried itself deeper, the waves would emit again. This caused the ground to fissure, leaving deep crevices all around. Large stones, buildings and trees hit by the waves were broken to pieces. The deepest cracks even began spewing out magma.
“Those waves are going through the surface” he explained quickly. “It’s going to tear the whole planet apart!”
“We have to take the spear out then” said Israfil.
“But how?” said Kiliana.
The waves went out again. Ravana raised his sword and swung it down on the Judges, but was suddenly blocked by Ushas’s scepter. She and Urmya came between the Judges and Ravana. Ravana fired energy blasts from his mouth and eyes. The goddesses defended with their shields and went forward. Together they began to duel the demon king.

Ban retrieved RyuKaduwa. “Forward!”
They had been bought some time. Together they ran toward MIM, who was ambling after Ushas and Urmya. Ravana knocked Urmya down near the embedded spear as it began emitting more waves. Urmya quickly raised her shield and defended the Judges from getting thrown again, only to be thrown down herself. Sparks flew off her shield from the energy’s impact.
“Urmya!” called Ikeia. She turned her large head toward the nine.
“We need to remove that spear!”
Urmya nodded and rose to one knee. “Come inside us.”
Kiliana, Ikeia, Comic and Kira beamed inside Urmya, while Ban, Israfil, Pack and Sako did the same with Ushas. Obelisk leapt onto MIM and directed him to keep Ravana occupied. While the two of them wrestled, Urmya tried removing the spear by hand. The spear reacted by shocking the goddess with is energy and sending yet more tremors through the ground. Ravana slashed outwardly across Urmya’s torso while shoving MIM aside, then fired energy blasts at Ushas before she could defend.
“The spear is almost gone!” said Sako.
“Comic!” called Israfil. “Try to keep him occupied. I have an idea.”

While Urmya directed Ravana’s attention, Israfil addressed Ushas.
“Ushas, shoot your tail sword near the spear. Maybe we can shake the ground up ourselves and dislodge it.”
“Are you sure you can do this?”
“I think so.”
“Very well.”
Ushas took her tail sword and drew it over her antler bow. Israfil channeled his Elemental Power, in turn increasing the goddess’s. Ushas fired the shot, hitting the mark right next to the burrowing spear. More tremors were sent, but these were negated by tremors made by the sword. The ground undulated around the two weapons until the spear was forcibly spit out by the ground. Urmya now came in and cut in two with one hew of her roc wing-sword. The pieces landed on the ground and shattered into oblivion.

Ravana uttered a wrathful roar. Ushas and Urmya stood together again as the demon king thundered toward them. Urmya fired her sword via her griffin wing-bow, but this was deflected away. Ushas tried the same to no avail. Ravana thrust and slashed relentlessly. The goddesses fought back with scepter and club. The Judges infused them with as much of their Power as they could, giving them a further boost. But even this was not enough. As the heroes’ began tiring, their desperation to end this grew evermore.
“We can’t keep going on like this” said Pack.
“Well what else can we do? This guy just won’t let up!” said Ikeia.
Ushas went down on one knee. Ravana punched her across the face and stabbed at Urmya. MIM came up again and fired several of his smaller cannons, buying the goddesses enough time to scramble away from the king.
“What now?” asked Ban. No one seemed to know.
Ravana twirled his scimitar in his hand and grinned. Using the power gathered from the Yakka spirits, he released a powerful blast of energy from his mouth, sending the TharaDeviyos crashing down…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cheiron hurried across the shore of the lakebed until he was right below the four titans. He raised Sariputta's staff, which fired several white flares. Understanding the signal, the goddesses and tortoise gathered together. Ushas and Urmya split into their component beasts and MIM folded into its dagoba formation. The other eight attached on their designated positions, forming the Thara Dagoba. As Ravana launched a slew of attacks whilst walking toward the great edifice, the Dagoba fired back its own volleys, absorbing each blast.

SeiNephilim and the surviving celestial aerial fleet lined up around Thara Dagoba and donated their power. As Ravana closed in, it fired one final blast at point blank range. Ravana impaled his scimitar into the top of the structure. He shrieked and exploded right on top of it, the plume mushrooming like an atomic bomb. From all over the planet this plume could be seen. A wave of energy swept across the planet, destroying all the enemies that couldn't get away.

But Thara Dagoba had survived. As the smoke and ash cleared the people below could see it standing tall over the Simeonite plain. Stunned awe kept them mute for a moment; finally resounding cheers erupted all around. Ravana was defeated, the war was over, Canaan was saved…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Siddhartha knelt atop the hill with Sariputta at his side, witness to the final destruction of Ravana, king of the Yakko. With this act, the war was over. Canaan was safe and the Celestial Plane was pure again.
“It is done” he said quietly.
“As is your time here” said Sariputta. The words may not have been the most comforting, but he said them with sympathy.
“Where is Dargel?” the prophet then asked. “I should like to speak to him one more time.”
Sariputta nodded and left to fetch him…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Hey, are you ok?”

He blinked, suddenly coming back to the world of the living. The first thing he noticed was the relative quietness to his dream…whatever the dream had been about, in any case. He couldn’t remember much other then that it was noisy and violent.

The second thing he noticed was that he was lying on a cold hard floor. He attempted to sit upright, but a sharp pain shot through his back.
“Augh!” he winced, as a pair of hands caught him, and laid him back down softly.

“Hey, take it easy” PRF7 said, as he looked down at Dargel. “Falling three floors down into the lobby of the Hall of Records isn’t something you just walk away from.”
“But then, sitting on the rails isn’t something smart people do” said another voice. Dargel looked to his right and saw Zyon kneeling next to him. Dargel smiled weakly. He was so happy to see them. He didn’t know why…he had just been talking to them before the accident…why did it feel like so long…
“Sorry” he whispered sheepishly, “Guess I don’t know my own strength”
“Strength has nothing to do with it” said Techni, as he walked over from another part of the large library lobby. He gave Dargel an incredulous look. “Those things aren’t meant to support that kind of weight.”

Dargel sat up again, this time ignoring the pulsating pain running up his back.
“Lay down!” PRF7 said, as Dargel cautiously stood up.
“I’m fine, really!” Dargel smiled. “Folks like us should shrug these things off easily, right?”
“He’s up already?” said yet another voice, this one female. Dusty walked over to the group, Aqua and Eomer behind her. “You ok?” she asked Dargel.
“He’s a little delirious” PRF7 interjected, before Dargel could speak up for himself. He shot PRF7 a slightly dirty glance. Dusty seemed to enjoy the remark, as she giggled. Aqua however, seemed to give a slightly more serious expression, although still one of amusement at Dargel’s expense.
“A bad jolt to the head, huh?” she asked.
Dargel nodded. “I…think I need to go walk it off”
“Well…if you’re sure…” PRF7 let go of his shoulder.

Another voice called. “Hey, Eomer!”
The man behind Aqua and Dusty turned around, to see Abe and Boz. Abe spoke up.
“Where have you been!? Omega has been looking all over for you!”
Dargel didn’t stick around for the conversation, but rather limped away, deciding he needed to clear his head. Something didn’t feel right. He maneuvered down through the open lobby, and took a right into one of the hallways, which was littered on both sides with books, scrolls, CD cases and other technological information devices. As he reached the end of the hallway, he turned to his left to see…

…Nothing. It was empty. The shelves had nothing on them. Dargel blinked. He could have sworn this area had been full. Why wasn’t there anything here?
“Because you don’t belong here” said a hauntingly familiar voice. Dargel turned around to see a younger version of himself. He who had been he at the beginning of all this…all of what? What had he just thought about?

And then the memories came back. They flooded into Dargel’s mind. All of the horror. The despair. The guilt and sorrow. His face changed from one of confusion to one of numbed sadness…an expression he always seemed to wear.
“You’re running away, trying to hide.” the younger him said.
“…Is that so wrong?” Dargel whispered, looking away from the other him.
The younger him seemed to look away too, a little ashamed of himself. “Hiding from reality? From your problems? I think so. You’re wishing for a world that isn’t yours. Friends that aren’t yours. They aren’t the people you knew. Only reasonable facsimiles. They don’t know you. They haven’t grown into the people you knew. We’re only kids. We’re not heroes.”

An uncomfortable silence reigned for a short moment, until the elder of the two spoke. “Neither am I…”
“How many times have you put on that suit to save people?”
“Not…not like that” Dargel shook his head. “I…on the inside…” he tried to get the words out, “I…don’t think I want to do this anymore…”
The younger him looked up at him, with a slightly sad expression. “You…don’t mean that…”
“Every day…every day I have to get up and fight unspeakable horrors that threaten all of existence. Every day I have to make choices that determine who lives and who dies. And sometimes I choose wrong, and lots of people die. And I let everyone down. And….and I’m just responsible for so much. And it never ends, ever. No matter how many times I save the day, they keep coming, and…” his voice cracked, “…and I can’t quit because then everyone dies. It never ends…and…and I just want to rest…”

Dargel spun around and slammed his fists into the wall. “Why can’t I ever be happy!?”

More silence.
“I…” Dargel continued in a low tone, once he got control of himself again, “…I’m not a hero after all. I’m just some poor soul who got in way over his head. Who got lost in a horrible world of monsters and sin. Who watched everything he loved get ripped away from him. Who was never allowed to rest, even for a moment, because if he did, he would regret it.”
“Your inner monsters would catch up to you” the younger him replied. “Eventually you simply fought to keep your mind off them”
Dargel slumped down to the floor, still facing away from his younger self. He nodded. “Except they came anyway. And there are so, so many of them. And I’m tired of it. I’m tired of all the hate. All the sorrow. And I'm tired of all the damned killing. It’s destroying me. Yet…I keep saying that, and no matter how many times I try to start over, the past never lets me.”
“And so you run away. To a world where none of it ever happened. Just like Techni wanted to do.”

The elder Dargel blinked and turned away, considering the thought. He had been so angry at Techni when he had found out what and why Techni had been planning.
“Maybe everyone has doubts and fears. Maybe everyone, deep down, has a bit of that frightened child” the younger Dargel replied. “And maybe it’s ok to say enough is enough, and let someone else deal with it for awhile. You can’t control the universe. You died. You’re a ghost. But I think…you’ve been a ghost so long that you can’t even remember what your unfinished business was.”
“No, I do” Dargel replied, “It’s just that I don’t have any reason to finish it now”
“You still have a few loose ends to tie up though”
“Yes”

The older Dargel turned back, but instead of the younger Dargel he saw Sariputta standing before him…

No… above him.
“Dargel.”
Yoroi felt himself be lifted to his feet by the saint. Sariputta pointed off to his left. Dargel turned, and saw…a hill. Siddhartha.
“You are called for” said Sariputta.

Not fully comprehending, Yoroi tiredly limped with Sariputta to the hill and up the slope to meet Siddhartha. He looked away from the prophet upon remembering, too ashamed to look him in the eye after what had happened.
“I…can’t do this anymore…” he whispered quietly. “God…I’m so sorry, Siddhartha…”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Judges had left the Thara Dagoba and stood in the center on the battlefield. The taint of war had left its mark, with the Highest Hill and the surrounding area having gained an almost palpable taint of darkness. It would fade bit by bit in time, but the bloodshed that this place had seen...it would never quite be the same again.

A pulse of invisible force left Obelisk’s body as he removed his armor. The Gladius Crucis was still stabbed in the ground. He went toward the blade and took it in his hands. As he stood there, facing the rising sun, those present who had known the old Issachite aristocracy would know the resemblance of him to his family. The black-clad heir drew in a deep breath as a light breeze ruffled his shoulder-length hair, which he had pulled back into a tight ponytail. The golden highlights shone clearly as light returned to the planet, and when he turned to the face the masses of soldiers and warriors present, his green eyes flickered to gold for a second before returning to normal.
“Alright...time for all of us who don't belong here to go home.”

It was a simple statement, but the power behind it compelled people to listen to him. The Issachite leaders had possessed something similar, mainly when directing troops or at a particularly heated moment in the midst of a battle. After a moment of stillness, Obelisk searched and found the ornate sheath of the Gladius Crucis lying discarded. He secured it on his back and slid the sword inside, then made his way with the other Judges over to Yoroi and Siddhartha…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Siddhartha placed a hand on Yoroi's head.
“Despair not. Heaven and Canaan are safe, and thus my task is ended.”
Sariputta waved his hand at the expanse of scorched ground before them.
“There is but one thing left to do.”
The Judges, Vibhishana and Alpha came to the hilltop. Cheiron, Sarindhu and Chebar appeared soon after. Najmuddin and Garasu too stood nearby. Chebar sought out Kira and held her close.
“Hold the staff out” said Sariputta to Cheiron, indicating the white staff now in Cheiron's hands. Cheiron looked downcast as he examined the staff. Siddhartha gathered the last of his strength to turn to face the small audience before him.
“The war ends here. Rebuild your homes, wherever they may be. Bring the Tribes together again, and lead them well.”

Siddhartha closed his eyes and pointed his pale face skyward, as if expecting approval from the gods. His body, mortally pierced by the Gladius Crucis, finally expired. As though by a miracle, the patch of ground the fallen prophet lay on turned green with fresh grass. Cheiron raised the staff and stabbed it into this patch of ground. Israfil, suddenly inspired, touched the staff with ShishiMugura. The staff became the trunk of a small white tree bearing rich almonds. Over time, the life in this patch would spread across the entire planet and replenish the life of this world.

Not long after a host of celestial beings, including the remaining eight of the Ten Giants, ascended the Hill. Leading them was the one whom had brought Yoroi to Ahasa. He nodded a greeting toward Yoroi and then addressed everyone else.

“We thank you for defending this world and heaven from the Yakko. They have not been fully destroyed, nor will they ever be. Vibhishana shall replace Ravana as their king.”
Vibhishana came forward and joined the host. “My brother was a zealot. He splintered our clan to usurp Vesamunu-raja, and almost destroyed the world to conquer it and Ahasa. I shall keep my brethren from overstepping their bounds in such a way again for as long as I reign. You have my word.”
“We shall leave you to it. And now, we ask for the return of the sword.”
Everyone turned to Obelisk, who gaped at the being.
“You can’t be serious.”
“I am.”
“After all this, you’re just going to take it back? We earned this!”
“The sword shall be brought to you when it is needed. You needed it to defeat Ravana. Now it must be placed back.”
“And who’s going to get it the next time?”
“Obelisk” sad Yoroi sternly, standing on one side. Comic and Pack stood on the other with equal admonishing looks.
“Don’t tell me I’m the only one here” said Obelisk. He went around his fellow Judges. “We faced GaraYakka and HiriYakka, the eighteen Sanniyas without our jewels, and just killed Ravana! After all this you’re just going to let them take back what belongs to us? After all we have done?!”
“I get the feeling you have another reason to want the sword” said Kiliana suddenly. Obelisk turned sharply to her but had no retort ready. She cocked a suspicious eyebrow.

The being came up and took the Gladius Crucis from Obelisk’s back. Obelisk tried to take it back, but his mortal strength made it a futile gesture. The gold chains wrapped around it once again.
“Now we must part ways. Farewell to you all.”
A flash of blinding light, and the host was gone. Vibhishana and Sariputta too had disappeared…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obelisk continued to stare skyward, as though willing the beings to return and face him. Sako flopped don on the ground. “Finally! It's over!”
She turned to Ikeia. “So what are you going to do now?”
“Hmm?” Ikeia turned toward Sako, having been lost in his own thoughts.
“I..I'm not sure yet, I don't think...”
However, as uncertain as he was about himself, the Gadite made note of Ban and Israfil. They were not even of this world. Sooner or later, they would be leaving… or would they, now that they were the Judges of Simeon and Judah respectively? And what about himself? What lay in store for him after what he and Gad had done? He looked for Kiliana but turned away again when her eyes met his.

Chebar and Kira stood together looking out over the landscape. Comic watched them and thought of his wife. As Alpha reunited with Cheiron and Sarindhu, he and Alpha looked at each other for a moment. Their first encounter was not forgotten by the prophet, but with the end of the war he was willing to at least forgive. The fate of these last surviving Horu would be determined later. Pack stood by himself, also unsure of the road ahead. He remembered his promise to the ascetic that he would return to Dan and rebuild his tarnished House. He thought of the journey northward he would have to take. That itself might be an adventure… but he didn’t want to say good-bye to his companions… his friends… just yet.

He turned to look at them and caught sight of Obelisk. Yoroi too was looking at him. Something odd was happening to the Issachite. He seemed to be muttering to himself as his hands shifted around rapidly. The golden highlights in his hair faded to black and his green eyes darkened. The tremors of his arms increased as he worked, until finally the air seemed to pause and then sigh.
“Much...better...”
His eyes swirled with golden energy which, as he turned toward Yoroi and the others, was tainted with crimson for the briefest of moments.
“No matter… even without the sword I… we… can rule over you.”
“What do you mean?” asked Pack. The others now paid attention as well.
“Bring the Tribes together, is that not what we were told? Well that dovetails perfectly with our… or Obelisk’s goal: restore Issachar’s dominion over the rest. Killing Ravana himself with the sword would have made things easier, but…. Maybe this way can be more fun. I’d love the chance to really test my abilities.”
Obelisk, Shimron, or both laughed. The rest exchanged glances. In seemed there was one more affair to settle after all…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yoroi sighed silently to himself in resignation, still exhausted from the entire ordeal. One couldn't bend existence to one’s whim, after all. Bad things happened, and all he could be judged on was how he reacted to it. But that didn't mean it wasn’t painful.

He looked around at the gradually growing life that Siddhartha and Sariputta had given this world as their last gift. Then he glanced at the three remaining Horu. So much had passed between him and them...and yet now, while the enmity still lived, it seemed to not matter as much in this new context. He then turned to Obelisk… and saw that something had happened to his eyes, but just for a moment. He turned so his side was facing Obelisk, and stared off at the horizon.

A few loose ends to tie up.

“Obelisk...†he started. “What...†he took a deep breath and recomposed himself, knowing that this would probably not end well. “...Who is ‘we’?â€
He suddenly shot his head in Obelisk's direction, a look of concern on his face. “What’s happening to you?â€
Obelisk was silent for a time, not having realized the changes to his body.
“This is...my friend Shimron†he finally answered. “He gave me his ‘power’ years ago before he died, and I was taken to Levi. Part of his consciousness resides in me, I have discovered… sometimes he comes out.â€
He scowled, a dark look coming over his face for the briefest of moments before vanishing.
“Because of him I did not break to the Levites. Now I’m going to fulfill his, and our, wish to restore Issachar to its past glory.â€

He let that statement sink in for a moment. Everyone now paid their full attention his way, disturbed by what was going on.
“Don’t you get it? I went from an exile to holding the greatest heirloom of my Tribe. But I didn’t realize until the moment I obtained it that I had been using others’ power, in this case Shimron, to keep me strong for so long. When my power faded out after first meeting Ravana, I went into a coma. I’ve grown dependent on outside sources of life and I hate it, but there’s nothing to be done but make the best of things. I'm going to make sure everyone gets to where they need to be, then I'm going to go home and live the rest of my life in as peaceful a way as I can manage. I do not want to fight any more than you do. But I will not hesitate to do so if you don’t abide by my terms.â€

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obelisk's face turned away as he let out a rough sigh, his emerald gaze locked on the horizon. Yoroi remained silent, trying to read between the lines. There was something about Obelisk now, something he just couldn't trust. How he spoke, what he spoke...it was almost as if he was trying to weasel his way out of something with his words. Comic couldn't help but feel a tinge of pity for him. After all, he knew as well as anyone the scars left from war, visible or otherwise. However, this contradictory speech about returning to a life of peace and dominion under him was unsettling.

“Maybe we should have done better. If we had stopped the Levites from completely stripping Issachar, a lot of what you endured could have been avoided. Maybe had your friend survived, things would have turned out differently. Who knows? But I think we can all agree to try to avoid the mistakes of the past. And God only knows how many times we've failed to do that.â€
The veteran's eyes narrowed dangerously, and directed themselves at Obelisk, while his face remained in the direction of the horizon.
“But now you of all people won’t move forward. I thought you'd understand better than anyone.â€
Obelisk snorted once, a derisive sound. He turned his entire body to face Comic as a lazy smile came to his face.
“I would be nothing without knowing that Issachar was still there for me. I promised to myself and my kin that I would restore what they had built. And that is exactly what Shimron and I intend to do. Are you saying I should turn my back on them just so you can flaunt this flawed notion of peace you just construed?†His expression became faintly amused. Green and gold swirled in his irises. “The time for unity has come. Are you going to stop that now?â€

Kiliana shot a look of suppressed anger. Having herself been a victim of that war, she shared Comic’s shock. But unlike Obelisk, she had had nothing to go back to. Now to hear him talk this way…. did he not understand anything? Or was Shimron having more of an influence on him than even he realized? Whatever the case, something that should have died with this war’s end was coming back in an inane twisted quest for a lost kingdom. Obelisk representing all that was wrong with Canaan, all that they had to overcome to restore the unity of millennia ago which had made them strong. Part of her just wanted to lash out at Obelisk, to keep him from causing any harm. They could do it too… just end him here and now. Keep the mistakes of the past from repeating each other. For a split second, she seriously entertained the idea.
No. A perceiving look from Yoroi snapped her out of her murderous train of thought. No more killing.

They couldn't kill him. Not after all that had happened. Besides...Obelisk hadn't even done anything yet.

“God...†Pack suddenly spoke in an almost inaudible whisper. “What have we done to you? Even after all we did to each other...we still feel the need to inflict our sins on everyone else. We still feel the need to have our own mistakes repeated...even after we have long since left this place. Are we really that arrogant?â€
The last bit was spit out particularly bitterly. Yoroi looked up, the words resonating with him. His face reflected contempt. He was finally and fully fed up with his own pity, the inability to break out of the cycle of death, the ironic tragedy that had they had inflicted upon themselves over and over, the power struggles, the killing, the warmongering, the nonchalant waving around of power. And lastly, he was fed up with himself.
“I know how you've acted with the team here. The Canaanites once understood the importance of teamwork, including Issachar. But now you've simply inherited the worst traits of your clan. Once you go home, I suspect it will be the same. And when the other Tribes get in your way, this will all start happening again.â€

“They know better than to get in my way†Obelisk snapped suddenly, a tinge of Shimron in his voice. “What could they do anyway? Ikeia is disgraced, Sako and Kira aren’t warriors, Ban and Israfil aren’t even from here and will probably leave soon, Pack will go back to the desert instead of accepting any political power... so really, who is left? Kiliana and Comic, and Comic has a wife and child to think about. As for Kiliana… I think I’m a match for her.â€
By this point, the integration of Obelisk and the shard of Shimron's soul had reached a level such that his voice was a perfect blend of the two; instead of two layered tones, a lyrical fusion of them. A mocking smile came over his features. It took all of Chebar’s willpower not to snap and just punch Obelisk square in the face as his eyes now locked on the Issachite.

“You...†Ikeia was so furious that he couldn't even get the words out right. “...have you learned nothing?â€
He snapped. The Gadite's face once again met Obelisk's. “You are an idiot. You say you've learned from the past, but you haven't! You are not above us, Obelisk! You're a kid who simply got his hands on a Rathnaya because such was fate. You do not have the right to subjugate the rest of us! Yes, it’s time we started bringing the Tribes together again. You’re right about that. But all you're going to do is destroy everything we fought and died to protect!â€
A wave of somber realization washed over his face. As if everything he had been searching for, all the questions had had sought the answers to, had finally just all clicked together. When he spoke again, his voice was less angry, and simply one of absolute truth.
“We're more capable then you think, Obelisk. Do yourself a favor. Go home, and put away your Brace. For one reason or another, you became a Judge. But now, you're simply a shade of what once was. A reminder of our sin and our punishment… that some things come at too high a price.â€
Distraught over what he had just had to say, Ikeia turned away. But he had one more thing to add. “Follow in their footsteps, and you condemn yourself to the same fate as them. You cannot win. We won't let you.â€
“...You think we wish to be a god? No...for you see, a god cannot be amongst his subjects. We shall be better than that...we won't be like you.â€

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obelisk grinned with a feral expression. He paused and tilted his head, his grin still gracing his handsome features.
“You can't stop what has begun. Just as I cannot stop living, despite death. My friend Obelisk kept me going as I did the same for him. Without me, he is nothing...without him, I am nothing. But without you?â€
Green-gold irises swirled dizzily for a moment before darkening to a fierce crimson.
“...without you, I am free.â€
The voice was now Shimron’s alone. Ikeia paused, flashes of memory of his own failures passing through his mind. Yoroi now spoke up again.
“For a time I was so wrapped up in my own guilt I couldn't see the damage I was still doing to myself and everyone around me. But now I know.†He turned halfway to face Obelisk. His eyes seemed to impart a sense of wisdom that had come with his age and experiences. No longer the happy-go-lucky kid who had joined a team of heroes so many years ago. No longer the guilt-ridden avenger he had been during his foolish quest to take the jewels for himself and destroy the Horu. Now, for once, he was stronger in more then just outer powers. He was now a tempered soul who was quickly becoming far slower to anger. One who finally understood the sanctity of life and the purpose of death.
“I do pity your lot in life, Obelisk. You have my sympathy. But you don't have the right to meddle with other people's lives. Your promise is an old one, it has no place anymore. And you're right, you are free without the others. Free to restrict yourself to the same path that has already proven fruitless. Why? Because the crazy dead guy that’s now in your head told you to.â€
He began to move closer to the Judges. “You will try, and you will fail. And that time you won’t be shown mercy.â€

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obelisk's eyes narrowed. His hands curled into fists at his sides. An overwhelming rage filled him upon hearing Yoroi's words, partially because deep down he knew them to be true. He had of course never let this feeling be known by anyone else, but it was there nonetheless: he was just a means to an end. Just before the war with the Levi, Benjamin and Ephraim/Mannaseh, his family had instilled upon him the duty to one day avenge them and restore the Tribe to its rightful glory. Shimron had urged him to do the same, to the point of passing on the power he had accrued through years of study in the magical arts. He had told himself such all these years and had thought he had accepted it… but to have it fed back to him in such a blunt manner hurt him. Had he ever tried, really tried, to escape captivity? Had he fought the Levites, brought Ben Yusuf to his knees and seized his throne? Had he really used the gifts bestowed upon him to achieve the desired goals? No, he hadn’t. It was only when that prophet Siddhartha and the Horu came to get him, and he had received the gold Rathnaya, that he began his work. Sure, he had played it off coolly, made it seem like he was masterful. But Shimron had to awaken in Obelisk’s conscience to spur him on, because even he knew the truth. The truth was that no matter what he did, he'd never be good enough. He had failed a long time ago.

But he wasn’t about to let these people disgrace him this way.

Obelisk’s eyes glowed a malevolent red as he started to stalk toward them, his own shadow stretching out before him. Ban suddenly came forward and drew RyuKaduwa, pointing the blade at the Issachite’s chest.
“That’s enough, Obelisk.â€
“Are you going to kill me?†scoffed Obelisk in Shimron’s voice.
“I really don’t want to. But just stop this.â€
The other Judges drew their weapons as well and formed a circle around Obelisk. Shimron/Obelisk cocked an eyebrow.
“Really now? You severely underestimate my abilities.â€
“I could say the same for you†said Kira. “You’re not going to rule over us. We rule together, as it was meant to be.â€
“Yoroi is right, if you try you won’t be shown mercy†said Comic. “But right now we are willing. Go home, Obelisk. Get that shade out of your mind and find some peace. You deserve it.â€
“Do not tell him what to do!†snapped Shimron. “You don’t know what I’m capable of!â€
“…. You’re right†said Comic suddenly. He backed away from Obelisk and bade the others do the same.
“What - †started Kiliana, but Comic raised a hand for silence.
“Alright, Shimron. Why don’t you show us what you can do? And I mean you, alone.â€
Shimron laughed. “That’s not how it works. I am only a remnant of Shimron implanted into Obelisk. The only way to take me out is to kill Obelisk. And he will not let you deprive him of my power, much less his life.â€
“If you are so certain Obelisk will vindicate you, there is no reason to keep living through him. You never really thought he could do it on his own, so you put part of yourself into him to prod him along. He’s lived with the burden for so long, and with you playing in his head, that he’s no longer his own person. Now I understand why he behaved as he did all this time; it was only partly his own arrogance. You did all the rest.â€
“Shut up!â€
“Come out and make me!â€

Obelisk snarled and rushed forward, but then a cry suddenly left his lips. The shadow that stretched before him had darkened. Slowly, it solidified and rose off of the ground, gradually coalescing into a humanoid form. Crimson cracks appeared as the shadow shattered, revealing a muscular figure wrapped in a gray shroud. This too disintegrated and vanished, leaving the image of the true Shimron in its place. Obelisk stared in surprise, as did the rest of the gathering. Shimron looked deep into his eyes.
“This...was not what I had envisioned for you. I had hoped for so much more...not having realized just how much my own darkness had tainted those powers.â€

Shimron was wearing identical clothing to Obelisk. Aside from some disfigurements left from numerous battles and dabbling in unsafe magic, they could pass as brothers. A multi-colored aura surrounded the dead man's hands as he gently gripped Obelisk’s head and channeled the aura that surrounded his hands into the other man's body. The power that he had bestowed upon Obelisk was now being drawn out. It had assumed the appearance of a red and black cloud, and tried to resist being extracted from its dwelling. Shimron eventually managed to rip it out and absorb it into his own chest. He shivered once, and then let Obelisk fall unconscious to the ground as he turned toward the audience.

“Before you ask, I am dead. But my mastering of the darkest of sorcery allowed me to retain some of my power after death. It is how I appeared before you now. How I knew to come? As Obelisk told you, I left a piece of myself inside him when I gave him some of my power years ago. Thus I was able to feel what that part of me was doing, to see through Obelisk’s eyes. There has been enough fighting to last a lifetime. I felt obliged to step in and stop you.â€

Israfil opened his mouth to speak, but Shimron held up a finger.
“I have little time, so let me finish. I did tell Obelisk before my death and his exile to restore Issachar. His clan that ruled the realm had done the same. But the afterlife has given me a new perspective on things. I suppose I had subconsciously transferred some of my more… malevolent feelings into Obelisk that spurred him too far. Add that to his years of imprisonment, and you have a recipe for bad things. Mind you, that does not take all the blame away from him; he has done quite some damage on his own. But we all have made many mistakes. Perhaps...once Obelisk recovers, he will be able to forge his own path.â€
“Recovers?†asked Sako. “What did you do to him?â€
“As he told you, his first meeting with Ravana left him severely drained of power. I have just taken back the power I gave him, and his body has reacted accordingly. He will be alright soon. But you will need to show him how to live… much like the Gadite.â€
Ikeia looked from Shimron to the unconscious Obelisk. A pulse of energy emitted from the latter’s Jewel Brace. Shimron saw this and nodded, then turned toward the eight remaining Judges.
“The new generation...you have much to learn, but you are well on your way. Uphold the legacy and make us all proud. Hopefully, one day, you will all be together as comrades.â€

Shimron smiled serenely as he closed his eyes and vanished...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No one said a word for a long while. Sako knelt down beside Obelisk and touched his arm. The gold Rathnaya pulsed once again, but Obelisk remained as still as before. She did notice though a hint of a smile etched on his face. Not a smile reflecting the cocky arrogance he had flashed so often, but genuine tranquility.
“Well… I guess that’s that.â€
The Judges looked around at each other. Indeed it was. The fighting was at last over. All that was now left was to rebuild… and go home. Ban felt slightly downcast upon this thought. Returning to SEC, and going home to Earth… it felt so long since he had been driven by those goals. He turned to Israfil… no, Havok, and caught his eye. His friend nodded politely, but did not seem to grasp the hidden meaning behind Ban’s gaze. Ban sighed and walked a few steps away from the group, looking skyward. The yearning to fly again was creeping up once again. But he couldn’t go just yet…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A small smile passed over Yoroi's face as he gently fingered Aqua's brace. He stood there for a moment, not quite sure what to do. His quest was over, his time here ended. He had won. The fight was over… for now.
“I am a freeman†he thought to himself. For so long, he had had a singular goal that consumed his entire existence. But now, it seemed as though the nightmare had finally lifted. The only question now was… where to from here?
