1) Thanks for coming back! I've missed the balance with the guys' podcast.
2) I love the happy wide-eyed giddiness of angelicnoir, it made me chuckle listening during work.
3) I think the joke is that Gokaiger is like the Greatest Hits of sentai that everyone wished and prayed and rain-danced for but nobody makes the time to watch it. Ironic? It's so good it doesn't need to be watched!
I'm getting around to it~ They definitely did justice to the Dekaranger and Shinkenger arcs, which were two of my favorites. I'm sure I'll end up liking it over all... just been MEGA distracted by a sparkly JPOP group
4) I think you guys are looking at this wrong. In the traditional stereotypical guy show, girls aren't supposed to be useful in the physical sense. Girls are the moral/emotional ground for the hero to come home to. Girls are useful in the emotional half (moral backbone, the support role), guys take up the physical. Even independent female Riders are made to need help. Femme couldn't touch Ohja until Ryuga took out his contract monster and she "defeated" him. L'arc was getting beat around by Undead and Glaive stepped in.
The only Riders I've actually seen are Double, Den O, Decade and Kiva and just a little bit of Kabuto and OOOs. So, I don't have a lot to go by.
I totally understand being the emotional backbone for heroes as I see it all the time in the shounen anime I watch constantly.
However, from the Rider series, I've actually seen, I don't think they did a good job of that either. Akiko was fine for Ryuu and while I forgave her a bit, Blade did bring up a good point in saying her husband is obviously going through crap and all she's really doing in the movie is giving him more crap to deal with.
In the actual series, Akiko didn't take so much of a "someone to be there"/"home" role because Philip and Shoutaro had each other, as bromanc-y as that sounds.
In Den O, again, I can concede for Ryotaro's sister in terms of being the emotional support for Ryotaro and Yuuto (older and younger). I think, she was a little overshadowed by Hana though-- who, other than the fact she was a "key" character as a girl out of time, was just... there.
As for Natsumi... I really just didn't like her character. For someone who was supposed to be the "home" character and remind Tsukasa that he needs to get his head out of his ass, she complained and pouted far too much-- and wasn't even that funny about it, like Akiko. If Yuusuke didn't act like such a kid at times, he could have probably been a better "home" character and played off Tsukasa like Philip played off Shoutaro (and vice versa).
And Kiva... just... don't get me started lol~ (Sorry, Queen~) Watching the female characters in that series was like watching a train wreck... a big, horribly emotional, whiny train wreck.
I think Lynx can answer these questions better than I can, though, since my Rider knowledge is hella limited. In terms of the Riders I have seen, that's how I feel about them.
