I like the Mysterio theory. I hope it's true as he's always been one of my favorite villains. And I'll like that they're not re-using the same villains from the Raimi films.

Rental at best. And honestly I don't find those reasons as acceptable excuses for the movie being the way it is... which is... forgettable, directionless and plain boring in places. Calling this a half hearted attempt is maybe too generous, I didn't feel anything while watching this movie (other than it's length). If not for some good performances by Sheen and Leary and a couple 'knee slapper learning to use my powers yuks,' this movie would be a total pass. That's how I felt leaving the theater anyway, and I wanted to like this.

Saw it twice and waiting for the weekend to watch it with different friends for the third time.
Wonderful movie, with very likeable, INTELLIGENT, human beings for characters. I like Raimi movies fine but God, the main cast tended to be emo morons. To be fair though PROPERTY OF PETER PARKER is just if not more stupid.
The crane scene felt forced and pandering to the spirit of the ordinary commonfolk. And Lizard did felt rushed in his devt, most likely a side-effect of having to spend time building on the origins of the main character so they had to make room in the movie's overall playtime.
Gwen is a HUGE upgrade to Mary Jane. MJ existed to jst be the dream girl, the one Peter is supposed to flirt with (if you could call it that), pine for and rescue. She had nothing else really.
And I will always say how much I liked the way they handled Flash. I get it, nerds get bullied. Bullies are assholes and movies put them there because nerds love to see bullies get hurt back and take delight in it. That' all they are for, to mess with the main cast and for us to be glad to see getting hit back later on. Flash here is just like a bully, a fucking tool. But even he was human being enough to approach and comfort Peter who is clearly devastated with the loss of a family member. And this is after Flash, this egotistical jock, was humiliated by Peter in the most awesome way. It was very short but I really felt that their take on the movie bully was very mature and treats the audience as smarter people.
And Gwen being smart enough to know why Peter is distancing himself and not going emo on him is another plus for me. It cemented to me how she is a real, intelligent, and mature character.
I love this movie. And I enjoyed the Raimi movies and dont hate them one bit. But this is one is clearly a superior story in my eyes.
I can see people disliking this only if they liked the Raimi's so mch so that a reboot is viewd as sacrilege or they jst cant reconcile seeing deviations from the comic books canon. Kinda petty and nerdy if that's just the only case really but I definitely can relate. Just not for this particular movie.

Sorry to hear that, but as you can see here and in the reviews, a lot of people actually liked this movie. And besides, a lot of people actually pointed out that what you liked about the movie is what they didn't like. Take for instance Sheen's death which didn't feel as heavy as the original wrestling thief approach, and the learning his powers with a bunch of subway guys didn't feel "developing" as the way Maguire/Raimi did it in the original trilogy. Goes to show, "you can't please everybody".

A lot of people like Twilight. *shrug* I generally enjoyed their performances. Wasn't a fan of how they handled the Uncle Ben death or the entire convenience store scene, really. The high-larious bits where he first used his powers were amusing but I agree they didn't do much to show his progression as a character or build towards anything. It meandered until they reached the next bullet point on the list of things that need to happen in a Spidey movie.
I think that's the most damning thing about this movie, how painfully paint by numbers it is. Even for an origin film in this genre it feels remarkably cookie cutter.

Twilight isn't exactly the best point of comparison for this movie, first of all it's a totally different fandom, whereas people who actually showed that they like the Amazing Spiderman is pretty much similar to the both of us. I've seen hardcore comic book geeks praise this movie for defying their expectations, whereas we have Twilight being praised by teeny-boppers who have no idea what vampires and werewolves are, but are astonished on the fact that they're part of a love-triangle because their hormones say it's cool.

Just saw this movie yesterday. It was good. It wasn't as good as the original though. I noticed that there were a lot of night scenes and that helped made the slinging look cool. I thought the Lizard looked cool in CGI although it was starting to seem like he was turning into Godzilla when he got bigger.
Positives:
-Emma Stone's performance as Gwen Stacy. I liked it a lot and find Emma very HOT. Also, she has great chemistry with Andrew Garfield.
-Web slinging.
-Uncle Ben shines in this one.
-Great special effects.
-Andrew Garfield did a great job as the rebellious Peter Parker. He also got to look be very smart compared to Tobey Maguire's Peter.
-Cool scene with Flash Thompson on the basketball court.
Negatives:
-We didn't find out what happened to Peter's parents. They built it up to be something big but I guess we won't find out until sequels later.
-What happened to Peter trying to find the killer of Uncle Ben? He stopped after the Police attacked him the first time. Strange.
-What happened to Ratha? Lizard was obviously looking for him on the freeway and we never saw Ratha again after that.
-Didn't see much of Peter's desire to be a photographer either. It felt more like a prop for him in this film.
-Aunt May didn't compare to Sam Raimi's Aunt May.
Overall, I give this movie a 7.75/10. It's still solid.
