You guys must not understand how fun this is
I derive little enjoyment from debating with the blind, deaf and chronically confused.
1. So did tree of life and it still was pretentious crap
2. For it's time so did Charlie's Angels, If you want to see pretty girls in skimpy outfits go to a strip club, or a con
3. when they weren't as confusing as a transformers movie yeah
Charlies Angels had LL Cool J and Bill Murray, where's your god now?
1. wat
2. That's egregiously debatable. Personally, I don't find any of the trio of leading ladies attractive, with the exception of Lucy Liu, and even then I could find a better looking Asian chick by joining the math club at my university. I'm also not sure what "for its time" is supposed to mean.
Charlie's Angels was only made roughly a decade ago, which is nowhere near enough time for the sort of sociocultural shifts that determine women's appearances and men's physical preferences to take place, and even that is a tenuous position from which to argue beauty.
And yeah, hot girls exist everywhere, so why watch movies at all? Let's just walk in a straight line until we collide with one.
3. I can't really address this point with accuracy, as I haven't seen any of those glittery epileptic technophile
Transformers movies (because I have a tenth of a brain), but most of the action direction in
Sucker Punch managed to stand out from your standard, brainless blockbuster movie fair, and a few of the setpieces despite any contentions of incoherency or genericism were fairly elaborate in terms of costuming, set design and good ol' fashioned physicality, which is more than can be said for any movie that can be made on a Macbook. You don't seem to be truly challenging this point so much as just making a comparison to something that everybody already knows is worse, though, so maybe item 3 could be omitted altogether.
What a videogame from the 90's? Random levels making no sense just there cause were pretty, they even had the generic Snow time and fire levels.
I would think that a guy posting on a Tokusatsu forum on a username with a video game system abbreviation in it would be more appreciative of those kinds of nods whenever he encountered them. It was obvious Snyder was trying to inject quite a lot of video game sensibilities into
Sucker Punch (each unique situation being presented as a "stage", complete with individual objectives; special items requiring collection to unlock a specific event). The way it reads and the actual execution are of course very different, but all in all I would argue that it was more of a success than it was a failure.
Besides, the real stars of
Charlie's Angels are Crispin Glover, a hodge-podge visual style bastardized from a dozen other trending films and Drew Barrymore's speech impediment. I win.
