Superman Returns Discussion Thread

I'm curious -- what's the source for Returns being in continuity with 1 & 2?

My thoughts: The only real problem I had was Kate Bosworth as Lois. I mean, really good Lois Lanes have been few and far between; we've had Margot Kidder (who not everyone is fond of, but I'm of the right age for my original, definitive impressions of the characters to be those from the Donner movie), and on good days that girl from Smallville (but I've come to rather dislike Smallville, mostly because of the degree of contempt the writers seem to have for the viewers), and the animated Lois voiced by Dana Delany, and that's it outside the comics.

Brandon Routh OWNS the role -- he borrows a lot of his portrayal from Reeve, but he does it successfully, and if this franchise continues I think he'll be even more iconic than his predecessor. The writing was top-notch, Spacey was superb as the mad-scientist/criminal mastermind version of Luthor, the visual effects were spot-on, and my wife and I were very impressed that they didn't take the cheap and easy way out and make Lois' current love interest, Richard, a guy you'd hate, but rather the kind of man you can believe she'd fall in love with.

I'm hopeful for a sequel, and eager to see where they might go with it. I'm dying to see the weekend numbers, myself.

I saw the movie today. It was absolutely fantastic! Best movie ever along with Batman Begins. Brandon Routh IS Superman. Yes!! The plane scene is one of my favourite part. LOVED THIS! I loved Kate Bosworth. She is so pefect as Lois Lane.

LOVED THIS MOVIE! It's a worth of it. GO AND SEE!

EDIT: And also, I loved the end before the credit. So similar to Christopher Reeve's Superman films. Loved it. I knew this would happens.

After a couple hours of blissful sex you're left their trembling and quaking... breath comes ragged.

That's how I felt after watching Superman Returns.

I would go gay for Superman.

Much like after a several hour long session with a girlfriend where you're left shuddering and gasping for breath..... so went my experience with Superman Returns.

I would go gay.. for Brandon Routh.

It was a respectful, appropriate, and fulfilling extension of Richard Donner's Superman vision, right down to the traditional final shot which I wasn't sure they were going to do.

Where other movies trash and **** over the traditions and style of past installments in the genre, this pays homage to and celebrates the style and tradition.

I fucking loved it.

Two tiny gripes... first time he ran and ripped open his shirt to show off the 'S'... wish it'd been more in our face to see the S more clearly.

Second... the S could've stood to have been just a *bit* bigger. Tiny bit bigger.

Other than that, I wouldn't be surprised if they digitially altered Brandon's voice a little to emulate Christopher Reeves so goddamn perfectly.

I can't wait to see it again on the IMAX.

Believe it or not, that is Brandon Routh's actual voice.
He looks and sounds just like the man :buttrock:

Ebert lost ALL credibility when my roomate found out & told me that he used to write porn. And not even GOOD porn...really bad cheezy 70's porn!

And his opinon about the kid being "sassy?" What the **** Ebert..we FINALLY get a kid in a movie that is NOT a sassy little dipshit and he complains. Cause lord KNOWS every movie & tv show that has a little brat in it...they're ALWAYS a backtalking lil **** who is always "smarter" than the adults. Good for Singer for not putting that bullshit in the movie!:thumbs:
