Suicide Squad is heading to the big screen

DC Comics' "Suicide Squad" is on its way to movie reincarnation.

Warner Bros. has hired screenwriter Justin Marks to adapt the property.

Originally a backup feature in the 1960s comics "The Brave and the Bold," the stories focused on a team of people who fight monstrous menaces without benefit of superpowers. The Squad was reconceived in the 1980s as a team of super villains given one last shot at redemption by the government with missions that will most likely kill them.

It is the latter concept that Warners is working from in its film adaptation.

The villains involved have yet to be determined, but Deadshot, an assassin with wrist-mounted guns, is a strong candidate.

Marks, who is doing a rewrite of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" for Disney, also wrote the Green Arrow comic-book movie project "Supermax."

I'm not sure if everyone will remember the comic book. So they might look at this movie and be like "What the hell....?"

DC's problem is that they're making all the wrong movies. How is it that we still don't have a Green Lantern movie or a Wonder Woman movie and getting another Superman movie has been an emotional rollarcoaster. Suicide Squad? Is that the best they can give us?

If they went for a supervillain Dirty Dozen vibe, it might work. Kiefer Sutherland as Rick Flagg, Donald Sutherland and Edward Winter [Colonel Sam Flagg from MASH] as Waller's superiors, CCH Pounder as Amanda Waller, Clive Owen or Daniel Craig as Deadshot. To direct it, I'd like either Alan Alda, Robert Redford, or [if they were alive] Sergio Leone or Robert Altman. Heck, if he'd stay alive for a few more years, Clint Eastwood would make a kickass film.

GL is on the way and was announced a long while ago. Virtually no writer can/ will/ should touch a live action Wonder Woman movie, be happy with the animated film.
Suicide Squad could work. At the very least it's an opportunity to see DC C-listers, but it doesn't have that iconic or artistic set of expectations.

Ugh. Why can't they make another Superman movie instead of this? Seriously.

They are... >>a
And since it isn't a reboot of "Returns", but a continuation, I'm a tad sketchy. 'Cause "Returns" royally sucked. =(

I'd kinda like to see a Suicide Squad movie made... Never really got too in depth to their history and whatnot, so I'd like to see the whole thing with a fresh perspective. :)
