I think it's just such an unconventional choice considering the sheer number of amazing villains Spider-Man has had, arguably more than any other comic book character in history, that they would go with one that was designed out of spite and isn't particularly memorable or exciting. Lizard would be a great choice, as would Carnage (probably would be my choice), and I could even see Hobgoblin, Electro, Mysterio, or Vulture, but Morbius just isn't that well-known as a Spider-Man villain and sort of changes the entire theme of the series.

You have to keep in mind that the movie is still in production, and things could change.

Also, they introduced a lot of those villains in the games, so we probably won't see them for awhile (if they decided that the games were in-continuity with the movies).

They want Spider Man to be "Darker" since The Dark Knight. So, since Moribus is connected to the Man-Spider story, I seriously believe they would do it.

Like I said before, with the complete death of Venom it pretty much showed that there is no interest to continue with any symbiote story, at least as long as Raimi is around. Sure Raimi didn't like any of the symbiotes but you can go so many places just with their introduction.

Raimi pretty much let his personal bias against venom show in SM3. He could have made it work. He is a very talented person. There is no excuse to how he allowed that movie to proceed.
