All the sausage and boobs and blood aside, it's really quite well-written with a plot that leaves you wondering what's next. I was especially hooked when the show took a turn for the not-predictable so that really was a plus.

Also the sexboobsgore and all that, along with being prodigious eye-candy and fanservice, do play intricate roles and serve important functions in the overall coherency of the plot and the accuracy of the portrayal of Roma then. All in all, pretty fun to watch.
