Sometimes..traditional in Super Sentai that need to be broken down.

I mean...how are you supposed to use a gymnastics ribbon as a weapon besides choking someone with it?

You can wrap up an arm to pull them off balance, wrap it around their weapon and disarm them, trip them up by entangling their legs, use its motions to throw off your enemy's perception of where your arms and legs are so you can strike with one of your other limbs, and getting slapped across the eyes by it will certainly impair your vision for a bit.

It isn't a weapon that's very likely to score a direct decisive blow, but it's not as useless in a fight as one would think.

It really got to me that certain Onna senshi got a gymnastics ribbon as their personal weapon.

FlashNeko has already explained it, but I know that the one team that uses gymnastics ribbons as a weapon for finishing off a certain enemy would be Goggle V (although Goggle Pink herself uses it mostly when fighting by herself). Not sure if other sentai's do the same thing.

Honestly, I always found the gymnastics ribbon to be one of the more plausible weapons of the Goggle V. I felt more sorry for the dude with the ball.

Spoken like someone who has never been on the wrong end of a tennis ball. :(

It's not a tennis ball, though. It's a rhythm gymnastics ball. Basically a glorified dodge ball.

Edit: Although I must say, actual ball gynmastics are kind of incredible.

You got a point. It's like giving a Pikachu Flash along with Thundershock.

My point is...You never see dudes being given weapons like that. They always get the cool weapons, like Swords and warhammers.

The Ladies rarely get those kinds of weapons, if ever.

Pink Mask and FiveYellow also use Ribbons for weapons.

There's another one - male Rangers get axes or hammers, female Rangers get a sword or crossbow of some kind as it is more "ladylike." It's not even to do with how powerful the weapon is, Toei seems to be OK with a woman using a huge gun

If it bothers you why do you watch? This is their culture what right does anyone have to condemn them for doing what they have always done.

It's not "culture." It's a sexist tradition in all kinds of media (not just Japanese) that female warriors don't get to use the same weapons as a man, apparently it looks good for a woman to hold a sword or bow but not a hammer or chopper

Because she's a hypocrite that wants any excuse to bitch about this stuff.

You call ME a hypocrite but you constantly tell people to ignore me, then quote everything I say so you can take cheap shots at me?
