Should Yasuko Kobayashi just stick to Sentai?

My feeling on Den-O is that I don't like it personally, but it's really original in a genre that abhors originality. So I do respect it even though I find it flawed.

This kind of sums up my personal attitude toward Kobayashi's work. Even her bad shows are at least not just formula rehashes.

No. Ryuki is one of the best Kamen Rider series. TimeRanger and Gingaman are great series, but no where near Sentai's best. And you forgot to mention Kobayashi did the live action Sailor Moon series, which was is incredible.

And the best is, oh let's guess, Shinkenger? :rolleyes2: At least Timeranger and Gingaman were better paced and got in before Sentai turned into 25 minutes of toy commercial

Well, my opinion of Den-O at this point is this: Whether you like it or not, it's doing so well that SOMEONE has to like it.

It's popularity is due to the Japanese fans loving it's comedy to where they will never get tired or it, especially the Taros' antics.

Count me in too ^^

Also, what's up with all this Kobayashi hate? I mean, she's brought Timeranger and Den-O into the world. No matter what your opinion is on these shows, they are two COMPLETELY different shows with completely different characters. I call that diversity and it makes me happy that someone like that can be writing for Toei. People always spew stuff about Inoue ONLY being grim-dark, but this women can write a serious series, and one laden with fun ^^ So why the hate for her and the undeserved hate for OOO?

Her tone changes, but her shows do have a formula. The first 10 or so episodes set up a "status quo", after that balance is reached, nothing can damage it. Every single story arc introduced from that point on will be mostly pointless and resolve itself in a way that won't change the status quo in any way... until near the ending, when the show's story is finally able to move again.

In some shows that can work, but in others that's a big flaw. Ryuuki, especially, really shouldn't have had the "4" Riders who were always untouchable by everyone else until near the ending... Ryuuki also was not episodic at all, so you had these arcs which always turned out to be pointless with any twist introduced during them rendered completely pointless, until near the ending.

That format can work if the cast and characters are good enough, and the show actually has an episodic format, but, out of her series, I think only Timeranger used that format well. Everything else suffered due to that, even if there were good points too (I've never watched Gingaman though, so I can't speak about that).

These Are Not The Droids You're Looking For. Dr Kain's no fan of Shinkenger. Sorry. No one seems to be, lately. Its like the new Kabuto. >_<

My Opinion of her work (Pasted from the KR OOO thread)
Gingaman: Haven't seen it, don't plan on watching it
TimeRanger: Haven't seen it, I'll watch it as soon as TVN Subtitles it
Ryuki: Not my favorite KR Series
PGSM: I assume that's anime, see Gingaman
Den-O: Loved it
Shinkenger: Fucking Badass, Will be interesting if Saban adapts it to PR.

Also she wrote Boukenger Task 24 (aka Natsuki drives the DaiBouken like no one has before or since)

You have made this exact same post in an earlier thread. And you are still wrong: PGSM is not an anime. And I doubt TV-N is going to revive its Timeranger project anytime soon.

And Den-O and Shinkenger over Gingaman and Ryuki? Really?

Note, I've never seen Gingaman, although I am watching the MegaRanger/Gingaman Teamup on Sentai VS theater, now if only TVN would subtitle it.

Let's not forget that when Lost Galaxy was re-aired in Japan it did better than Gingaman (Source (see last paragraph))

As for TimeRanger and TVN

Like I said, Pasted from the other thread. I'll probably check out PGSM, since TVN has it subbed, and Keith talked about it in the last episode of the podcast.

Love TVTropes. That does NOT make it a source. Sorry, try again.

Gingaman's TV ratings were a historic high for 90s Super Sentai. That "source" for TVTropes, a freely editable wiki, is probably just an urban legend. Power Rangers aired in a late-night timeslot in Japan that typically has a hard time pulling over a 1% rating. Gingaman pulled a 9.8% average, IIRC.
