[Anime] Saint Seiya Omega - Talk Up!

I guess the show's been so good at integrating its fighting into an original premise up to now that I forgot how much of the original series was literally just fight after fight after fight.

It's funny when one realizes that the arc that people remember the most from the original (the battle of the Twelve House) was pretty much 12 straight hours of fighting and running up stairs

The bulk of the original series was basically 3 really crappy days for Seiya and his friends

I marathoned all of the original series in a month to get ready for Omega and man. That.was.brutal. I never want to see Omega do anything like that at all. Man. I never want to see anything try that again, it was such a tough set of episodes to get through.

It's shounen (though nowadays it might be considered seinen) at its purest

I doubt that Omega will go all out with that as well. Though I do expect them to have a "you guys continue on while I fight this enemy" arc, Omega seems to have a much stronger focus on character development and storytelling than original.

In reality, Saint Seiya has changed over the years. All the the spin-off from the original (Episode G, Lost Canvas, and even Next Dimension which is by the original author) have gradually moved some of the focus from the fighting and placing it on others elements.

Lost Canvas particularly prioritized characterization over all other elements and the end result was that some of its characters are more popular than their original counterparts.

The only bit of the older Saint Seiya's I'm familiar with is what CN showed, some of the knights fighting in some tournament that some woman named Athena(?) set up. \:

It appears Ionia, the man in the scan, is the new Capricorn Saint.

If so, we have our first enemy Gold Saint, people can no longer say that Omega is not a true Saint Seiya series

Ok, stupid question, where's his Gold Cloth ?

The scan makes it look like he's working for Mars, which begs the question as to whether any other Gold Saints are working for Mars. That also begs the question as to what the Gold Saints even do in Omega. He's the principal of Palaestra, so are the others faculty as well? I wonder how many Gold Saints there currently are, considering Seiya is supposedly dead and so that takes out Sagittarius.

Considering Excalibur, I'm going to guess his element is light.

It was revealed in episode 3 that currently there are only 2 Gold Saints. One of them is apparently Capricorn Ionia, but it's unknown whether Seiya is the other one (since some seem to believe him to be dead).

One of the translations said that Ionia used to be loyal to Athena, but was tempted by Mars and switched sides. Also, Ionia supposedly has the power to control people with his words.

Huh... sounds like he'd fit more as the Gemini Saint. I also don't really get the whole controlling people with words thing, which has virtually nothing to do with any of the previous Capricorn Saints. If he does actually fight, I doubt he'll even use Excalibur!

Well, Excalibur is not a technique that Capricorn Shura created, but instead it wsa given to him by Athena (which he subsequently gave to Shiryu). So unless Athena were to give him Excalibur or he was related to Shura in some way, there is no way for him to use that technique anyways.

On the other hand, if you pay close attention to episode 4, you'll see that Ryuho did an attack with his water cosmos that was very similar to Excalibur (though is not given a name). If it really was Excalibur, that would make complete sense because, as I said before, Shiryu was given Excalibur so he could have passed it along to his son.

Yeah he would have to use the Jumping Stone technique or something.

Dude feels old to be a replacement Gold Saint if you ask me. ATHENA Y U NO PROMOTE SHAINA AND MARIN?!
