[Anime] Saint Seiya Omega - Talk Up!

Now this episode actually feels like a tournament. Leagues better than than the previous one.

-The animation was far superior this time around, on par with episode 3's (the animators more really like Yuna).
-Kouga vs. Souma actually felt as a physical fight, instead of one party just been swatted away.
-The episode didn't bother itself with overdone explanations like its predecessor.
-Souma had a new, much better, attack "Lionet Burning Fire". He still has to work on the names though.
-They finally showed Yuna's transformation.
-Geki flashbacks were great.

There were a few problems, like the how short Yuna's fight was or Seiya not getting a new line in, but that's just nitpicking.

Overall, great episode. I would say my second favorite and that's because the first one had the advantage of including Sagittarius Seiya.

This ep was a LOT better than last week's, but it still felt underwhelming :disappoin

The fights felt way too short and barely anything happened in them.
Another thing that I don't like is that the clothes aren't breaking like pieces of paper when they should be.
Plus there's no blood in situations were you would think there would be.
I guess this is what happens when a show based on a more mature one airs in a children's programming block.

The only good thing about this ep was Yuna's transformation sequence.
It seems that it is based off of the magical girl genre, especially because of the lip stick part, which I think was a nice touch.

The original Saint Seiya wasn't a "more mature" show, it's just that Japan's censorship got more strict in the middle of the 90s. Although I guess it would help if Omega aired in prime time rather than sunday morning... And the total lack of blood so far might also be related to their interest in exporting it to international markets.

I agree, the original and Omega are both products of their time. While the original has always been described as a "shounen" series, it would probably fall under "seinen" by today's standards. I would even say that Omega is more graphic than many other shounen series to day.

On another note, this week's Omega episode once again managed to get a rating of 2.4% (the highest it has received so far), and the episode deserves every last bit of it.

Hopefully the series will keep it up now that that the actual plot has started. According to spoilers, things are going to get interesting from now on.

That henshin sequence was straight out of Precure.

Good episode, looking forward to the reveals next episode might bring

Someon posted an interview given by Reiko Yoshida (main writer for Omega) to Newtype magazine.

===

Reiko Yoshida (Main Writer) Interview:

oThey considered two options: using Seiya and friends as main characters again or create a new cast. After many deliberations, they decided for the later because they wanted the show to be accessible for a new audience. The show is a sequel, but also a reboot in a sense. It’s a new era with new Saints.
oThe number one similarity between Kouga and Seiya is that they don’t fight for justice, they fight for people they care about. Seiya originally fought to find Seika, Kouga is fighting to rescue Saori.
oSince the Saint Fight is not a battle of “life or deathâ€, the main characters can fight each other and grow stronger through competition. Kouga vs Souma and Yuna vs Ryuho are fights that are going to take place but the characters are fighting with mutual recognition, communicating their feelings through their fists.
oVery soon, Mars and the Martians will take center place as the antagonists, however, the main characters will also fight stronger fellow Saints such as the Silver Saints.

Reiko Yoshida Character Introduction (only the new stuff):

Kouga:

-“My paceâ€-type of character; his motto is “I am me and you are youâ€.

Souma:

-He is the comedic relief and the mood maker of the group.

-His anger regarding the death of his father is his number 1 weak point.

Yuna:

-Her strong determination was born out of a tragic childhood. Said tragic childhood will be shown in an upcoming episode.

-She has come to appreciate the abilities of her comrades but she hasn’t used her full power yet.

Ryuho and Haruto: (I wonder if this “pairing them together†thing will turn out to be deliberate)

-Ryuho is a calm character that believes in teamwork and in “getting stronger by fighting togetherâ€.

-Haruto is a sarcastic, loner-type character with a very wicked tongue.

Eden

-Eden is strong, prideful and very dignified, “he is like a prince!†(*laughs*)

Producer Wakabayashi (from NewType):

-Mars is an ALIEN.

-Mars’ minions (the Martians) are inspired by INSECTS. Mars has been planning his invasion for a very long time and after studying Earth’s ecosystem he decided INSECTS were the most adaptable creatures in the planet and thus based his invasion army on them.

This was an interesting episode to say the very least...

Out of all of Omega's episodes so far, this one felt the closest to the original anime. There are quite a few things that I'm going to have to wait until the subs come in since there was quite a bit of talking in this episode, but there more than enough to appreciate already.

-The glimpse at Eden's fight boosts his coolness (though I was unable to clearly hear what he said at the beginning, which I'm guessing is his attack).
-Glad to see such a steady, yet gradual improvement in Kouga.
-Capricorn Ionia look great. In the original anime, Capricorn had by far the goofiest Gold Cloth, and the Omega version might look like the Taurus Cloth, but as far as I'm concern it's better for it.
-Glad to see a Bronze Saint getting pwned by a Gold Saint, some things should never change :coolshades:
-Cloths cracking are a welcome sight.
-Haruto had a very good first impression.

There a few of (nitpicky) complaints. I saw the cyan haired girl being a fake Athena coming a mile away and Yuna vs. Ryuho was one big tease. But overall, great episode.

This week's ep was one of the best so far.
I really liked how it gave a more darker tone than usual, though it was probably due to the entire ep having a dark sky and overall darkening of the colors :/
Blood and paper thin clothes are a welcome, though I'm afraid that we won't be seeing too much of that throughout the series.

Next week looks like a classic Saint Seiya ep since we get almost all the main Saints running up stairs and teaming up to punch a wall :P

Curiously, Capricorn is probably the cloth that has changed the least from the original series so far. Even some of the chest patterns remained the same and the cross stone is barely visible.

Omega’s episode 8 managed to obtain the highest rating in the series so far, coming in at a well-deserved 2.9%.

It’s easy to see why this episode did well since it’s the most plot-heavy one so far, it’s predecessor was a pretty strong episode as well, and the episode's title did advertised the introduction of a Gold Saint.
