S.H.Figuarts - News and Reviews

What makes you think these aren't just place holder boxes?

Exclusives dropped them a while ago and even the Kabuto renewal doesn't have one. Personally, I think they look much classier like this. I can only see it being a problem for those in Japan who buy these things in store and want to be able to look for any QC problems.

Perhaps, but by the way the boxes are colored, I think those mock ups are meant to be what you will see through the window.

Kabuto Renewal has a similar box. I think they are going for new boxes now.

For what i have seen of that box, it looks nothing like these Super Mario Boxes.

It is not impossible that the Kabuto new box is a one-off thing, they did something similar with some of Kuuga´s releases, but these Mario Boxes are clearly place-holders; their design is the same as the one of the current Figuarts Boxes, except that instead of having a clear plastic window, they have a grayed out picture of the contents. If this were a new permanent box design, it would be a pretty lame one at that.

Kabuto Renewal has a completely different box with a design covering the whole front face and what looks like a lift off lid type box. While Mario and accessories clearly has parts outlined where the cardboard would meet the plastic window. The printed pic of the figure where the window would be is even set out like how the figure would be in the plastic tray underneath. It's clearly a place holder box so we have an idea of what it will look like with the figure inside without there being an actual figure in the box

This. Kinda like a box prototype.

Definitely a prototype box showing how the window will look. Otherwise they would've made more use of the space like with kabuto's renewal box.
