PS2 10 year anniversary

It's officially 3/5/10 in Japan, Making this the 10 year anniversary of the PS2s Japanese launch. To commemorate this, I'm spending this week and weekend going back and replaying some of my PS2 favorites before diving into next weeks big name releases. I'll be replaying Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, followed by Psychonauts and then Yakuza 2 (in preparation for Yakuza 3)

Don't really have the patience to dig into any long term RPGs right now, otherwise my list would probably be quite different.

It's definitely good to see a company stand by their promises, and Sony's done just that with the PS2 and their plan for a 10 year life cycle, 10 years in, and they're still releasing games.

But I got to thinking, I've been a gamer since back in the days of my 2600, and outside of the SNES I'd say that the PS2 has easily had the strongest lineup for myself (personally speaking of course) with games catering to pretty much anyone. Looking back, what are some of your favorites? Alternately, what are some games you wanted, but never got a chance to play for some reason or another?

It's been 10 years and the PS2 is still coming out with games.

I wonder if it will last longer than the Atari 2600, the longest living console ever.

I doubt they'll still be making games in another 4 years (going by the decline in Japanese game releases) so no, I don't think they'll top Atari's 14 years of games, but they had them passed in their 5th year as far as total numbers go.

...and my PS2 I've had since the NA launch just failed on me. It'll no longer read white discs, but can still read blue and black.

Thank god for HDLoader and DVDDecryptor, I'm just getting into Persona 4 and Shadow Hearts 2.

My favorite games were definitely MGS2, MGS3, 1st Splinter Cell, Tekken 5, Mercenaries, Need for Speed Underground, Soul Calibur 2, Resident Evil 4, Most of the later FIFAs up to 2007, NFL Street 2, aaand....Devil May Cry. those are the ones I played the most anyway. Actually, I still havent beaten Mercenaries and my save on RE4 got corrupt and didnt get back to it. I guess Ill finish off those two this week.

Games that I wanted.... Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow during the time when the multiplayer was popular. I heard such good things about it but missed the boat. Ill have to get back to you on that cuz I cant remember any other games right now.

I enjoyed playing Yakuza, Yakuza 2, Bully, Star Wars The Force Unleashed, Tenchu 3, Kamen Rider Climax Heroes and The Simpsons Hit & Run. :thumbs:

The Kingdom Hearts games and Final Fantasy games on PS2 are my favs.

The games I really wanted to play are KH2 Final Mix+ for all the extra content and FF12: International Zodiac Job System to be able to control espers and guest party members and fight the 5 Judge Magisters

1: Persona 4 and 3
2: Zone of the Enders the 2nd Runner
3: Another Century's Episode
4: Yakuza
5: Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater

I STILL can't beleive that the PS2 managed to outlive the other consoles!

I'm actually trying to finish my Persona 4 that I gave up on a year ago. Today, I just beat that point. XD

I suck, though. I can't do anything right in the game.

Hopefully, my PS2 will still last long. The tray comes out really slowly, and it bothers me.

I couldn't get the real ending, the one that unlocks the final dungeon and boss *Sigh*

My PS2 only died on me once and that was when the laser lens fell out or needed cleaning or something...either way, certian games it could run but others didn't...luckily it was still under warenty so I took it back to get it fixed free of charge.
