Protect IP Bill (E-Parasite)...is our Government getting more & more stupid?

I understand that there is a serious concern with piracy.
However,I do not consider someone putting an episode of a cartoon from 15-20 years ago on YouTube to be a crime. In fact,YouTube is really the only resource where you can see some of this stuff. For example I have high doubts the Hanna-Barbera Ultraman will ever see a DVD release in the U.S.(I do know it came out on DVD in Japan).

Likewise I doubt the 1970`s Spider-Man series(the American one) will see a DVD release anytime soon, although it could be a possibility when the new movie comes out next summer. So I guess I cannot rule it out(note to Marvel...make it happen!)

So,really YouTube is the ony resource for me to get to see that stuff.Honestly, who goes on YouTube to watch some annoying teenager talk in a high-pitched voice or stuff like that.People go on YouTube to watch TV shows they haven`t seen in years.

I have noticed that the game industry doesn`t seem to be as uptight as Hollywood is.I have seen few video game playthrough videos get axed on YouTube.

I have also noticed that with many such videos, the poster makes a point to include a disclaimer saying that he or she is not trying to make money off these videos and that they are not trying to infringe on anyone`s copyrights

But as I said,I do not believe this bill will pass.I think it`s too complex and really wouldn`t stop anything. There would be an uproar, not just from YouTube,Facebook, etc. but by everyday people like you and me.

Instead of taking down the videos, why not aid the uploaders they like and make them into channels in which to post the shows on as well as original content? Or like they've done with certain videos like Astro Boy, put the sticker saying it has content from them?

Anyways, I've discovered that YouTube videos are easily to download by themselves, considering I have the entire first season of Xmen Evolution provided by Marvel themselves. They really need to consider Hulu to put them on if they are so concerned with piracy or post them on their own streaming sites. Or perhaps YouTube should provide a way to make their videos protected like on Hulu for those companies and for a fee to users like us.

While I do respect the copyright holders' right to use their properties as they so please , they need to realize that music videos and other compilations are MORE LIKELY to DRAW money to their doors, much less the posting of films and shows subbed or dubbed otherwise. If it weren't for the Godzilla films being "illegally" posted on YouTube, I would have never known about the product or purchased the DVDs since SONY had no balls to distribute them with a decent theatrical release.

Some have learned to exploit the interweb's power of mass distribution and promotion and those are the ones who will survive in the long term. If those few companies and countries like Japan won't catch with the times, they will follow the path to extinction while the others will evolve and move on.

The game industry pull a ton of **** with DLC's and anti consumer/right of first sale crap which they are trying to phase out used game circulation and region locking. Funny thing is that it paradoxically pushes people to piracy, much like with region locks on Home Video media and the DRM so legit video copies of the film can be available for the consumer outright under an account of some sort like how iTunes handles music.

Even before the internet and dvd's, Piracy was still issue, people use to copy music cassette tapes throw a dual cassette player and sell them to underground markets or in a sidewalk floor or a shopping area ,same goes for VHS, they would use two VHS players with a Video mode and Rec, I remember back in 1999, PreNapster days my local shopping area, people would sell Fake Music CD albums from popular artist's and band's at the time, some even had fake albums thet were a day or two before the official album release, they would sell them for $5 dollars on a sidewalk floor, those were the days lol.

Well, back in the 80`s,my mother used to work at the local high school`s now-defunct(I think)TV studio. There they would tape PBS shows like The Letter People,Reading Rainbow and 3-2-1 Contact. The tapes were given to local schools to show in classrooms.

Due to the fact the studio had VCR`s up the wazoo, we would rent movies on VHS and she would make copies of them.None of these movies were ever sold,we just taped them to have them to watch at home.

Regardless,my mom must have commited a horrible crime. Therefore I guess I`d better turn her in to the police. If only she would have watched those FBI warnings at the beginning of the tapes!

I wouldn't if I were you, because..

1 - It's too late to do that now..
2 - She might have done this to save monney that she would spend on dinner. YOUR dinner included.
3 - This..

Yeah, you guys do realize this is the 4th time they attempted this in the last 2 years? It's not happening. This takes away billions from the business of Youtube, Facebook and other sites that make millions and even billions off of people and piracy. Also, there is no complaints coming from any of these video sharing sites that supports this bill which tells me they do not give a ****. They only respond to copyright clams by certain properties and it certainly isn't enough to get a bill passed.

Half of these companies do know that some piracy is harmless like TOEI for example but they also understand there is a limit to it as well.

It's not happening. Besides, there was a recent bill against streaming sites that provide links to sporting events and recently released movies and they are back up and running. I don't see how exactly this is going to be passed.
