[Video Game] Pokemon X and Y: Friend Codes in the OP

Let me be a rebel or something.
Motivated by the announcement went ahead to pick up White 2.
Every five minutes somebody stopped me to shove me an item or teach some game mechanic, NPCs that were supposed to teach me about type matchups only used one same normal type move and the first gym leader quite robotically complimented me on using Tackle. The game seems to be the same primitive structure as the very first, except it's packed with too much additions (minimal mind you, additions).

And what do you know, XY doesn't seem to be any different from the trailer. The graphics aren't that impressive, battles still happen in non-descript pocket dimension because it's just so easy to design that way. At least the new Pokemon they showed don't look as offensively disgusting as Black&White newcomers.

I give up, much like the developers did.
For the record, I enjoyed Mystery Dungeon and Ranger series a huge lot.

Well I don't know about you but I like the look. I like how they kept true to the games while still taking full advantage of the 3DS's features and graphics. Truly feels like a proper evolution of the franchise. What you are asking, fine sir, is a forced change in gameplay style for the main series games, just like alot of impatient fans who ask for a HUGE and drastic change in gameplay. Let it evolve overtime. It's like you're asking Charmander to evolve into Charizard immediately.

forced change
I just coughed my tea.

Adding semi-3D rendering isn't "evolution" in the slightest.
They just keep multiplying the more annoying elements while the package stays the same. That's evolution? Nah.

Well the new 3D perspective is what's gotten me interested in this new game I think. But I do agree with what you've said, I think that's pretty much the reason why I can't seem to get into modern Pokemon. There's a certain charm that isn't just isn't there any more.

Lemme guess, you hate Gen 5 pokemon just because of Vanilluxe and Garbodor, huh? If so, that's a shame 'cause Trubbish and Oshawott are cute, Accelgor's pretty awesome, etc.

Also, someone posted this on my Facebook wall the other day and while I'm not saying to take it as fact, it does feel related to this convo:

''Oh they're moving away from the colors? What's the reason? Oh! It seems to be the legendaries, Yveltall looks pretty cool! Let's see the other... huh? Where's the X?''

I dunno, I can tolerate that they're moving away from the colors, but at least they should do their new concepts right. Xerneas' design is terrible considering it's supposed to resemble an X. Unless he can change shape in some way.

I wouldn't be able to tell you who these are.
I just didn't like the G5 look as a whole, I'm not a Pokemon fan to go into such details.

The basic quest is essentially the same, and it's likely always going to be the same, but by this point in the franchise, there are some fairly interesting changes going on beyond that. The core concept of the game is to battle and towards the end of B/W 2 you're given an option to fight every single gym leader from every game as part of the "world tournament". Team Plasma arguably takes a larger role in the games than any other enemy organization, essentially being the PETA of the Pokemon world. The sequel games seem like something enjoyed to a greater extent once you've played Black and White though.

I think with each new generation of the series, more side quests and options are added in lieu of greatly changing the main quest of the game. Even then, each version of the main quest is different enough to be enjoyed. Except Diamond and Pearl. That's the one era of the series I hated. When it comes to the main games, I think the big question is whether or not a slightly modified version of the main quest with additional activities on the side is enough to keep you coming back for more.

How fare did you get in White 2?

The way the Black/White storyline goes is as if the Pokemon League is running in the background and are the wheels of the whole vehicle.

The main selling point of the first generation was ''Beat the Eight Gym Leaders! Beat the league! Defeat the evil team!''. That's it. That storyline is what everyone takes for granted now. Mewtwo was optional, and the other legendaries weren't destroying anything or didn't have the fate of something depending on them.
Generation 2 was a slight expansion, expanding the league but also showing there's something beyond it at the same time.

Starting from Generation 3, I could see they no longer wanted to market the Pokemon League as the sole reason to play the game, to avoid repetitiveness.

Thing is, the league cannot be removed, lest millions of fans be angry. They do that... only those titles are not considered ''main''.
That's why it might seem to a lot of people as just side additions instead of a modification to the core of the game.
Might I add, that gameplay-wise, every generation has added something new that changes strategy. It's the reason why I don't play competitively! My god! I don't know how people do it!

I have noticed in black 2 that I seem to get a new item every few minutes, and surprisingly a few are kind of fun or useful. The Dowsing machine in the desert is actually pretty neat, and while I may never use the vs recorder or pal pad I respect that they are there. One thing I don't like, however, is the avenue thing before you get to Nimbasa. While I like the concept behind it, I just don't like its location one bit. Put that on some side island where I can go there when I feel like it and not every time I pass through the area! But that is a minor complaint.

I love the feel of the game, the basic good time it provides, and nice variety of pokemon. The story is simple but still alot of fun and I like getting to see gym leaders doing more than just standing around when trouble is afoot. I get to see more of their personalities that way and really enjoy it! There are alot of daily things to do, and plenty of repeat trainers to face off against. I still love raising my pokemon just as much as when I was a kid, and like finding out what pokemon are going to appear next for me to catch.

So yeah, I've only become happier with pokemon as it has changed while still being the fun game I loved as a kid and still love. :D Look at the smile!
