I'm really curious about the shift to 100% digital. It's exciting to think about the convenience it could bring, but I do have some concerns about preserving games long-term. I remember when titles got delisted from stores and suddenly became nearly impossible to get, like when P.T. disappeared. It'd be a shame if we lost access to classics down the line. At the same time, the potential for game libraries to be updated and expanded instantly is a huge plus. It's a great time to think about the future of gaming! What do you think about the potential for game preservation in a fully digital world?

If we can play digital offline games in single player it would be good but its worrying

I think the biggest mistake people make is treating this like it's either the end of gaming or nothing to worry about. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Going digital isn't automatically bad because millions of players already buy games that way. But companies also need to earn people's trust by making sure purchases remain accessible for many years. If they can do that, most players probably won't care whether the game came on a disc. If they can't, then the concerns people have today are going to become much bigger in the future.

Kind of expected this to happen sooner, to be honest. Looking around at friends, almost nobody buys discs anymore. Everyone waits for digital sales or subscribes to a service. Physical media still has value, especially for collectors, but companies usually follow where the money is. Doesn't mean everyone has to like it, but the decision makes sense from a business perspective.

Maybe I'm one of the few people who still enjoys owning physical games. Seeing a shelf full of game cases is part of the hobby for me. Digital libraries just don't have the same feeling. Convenience is great, but once physical copies disappear, there isn't much choice left. That's the part I don't like more than the change itself.

The cloud gaming part is honestly the bigger concern. Digital downloads are one thing because they can still be backed up in different ways. If everything eventually depends on company servers, players lose a lot of control. Companies can shut things down whenever they want. Hopefully the industry doesn't rush into that future.

Never understood why some people say physical discs are always better. Plenty of modern games still need giant updates before they're fully playable. Sometimes the disc just installs data onto the console anyway. At that point, the physical copy doesn't work the way people remember from older generations.

I honestly think preservation has become the community's job because publishers rarely make it a priority. There are so many older games that would disappear if fans didn't archive them. I don't even see that as being dramatic anymore. We've already seen stores close and licenses expire. Companies move on, but players still want access to games they enjoyed years ago. That's why preservation matters even if someone never pirates anything themselves.

The store shutdowns are honestly what caught my attention more than the disc news. If older systems lose official support, then people are going to worry about what happens next. Companies always say digital is convenient, but convenience only works if they keep supporting what people already paid for. That's where trust starts to become an issue for me.
