OH CANADA! Election 2011

The thing that concerns me the most about it is not the fact that Harper won majoritarily it is the fact that NDP is now opposition. I fear that they will not be able to handle it idk why.

Its going to be easier to be opposition this time around though, they can do all the grandstanding they want without risking to trigger an election. The important part is that he shows he is working and on top of things so that people feel more confidence in the NDP. This is going to be a period of boosting their image, showing they might be rookies but they're good at their job.

On the plus side, we got a better voter turnout! 61% or so so far! That's good!

I have to admit, I was NOT really surprised that the Conservatives got a majority. I was rather surprised to see how many seats the NDP gained, particularly in Quebec. They very nearly wiped out the Bloc's presence there single-handedly. The Liberals campaign was mediocre at best, piss-poor for the most part, and generally-speaking was run in a really lazy fashion. They took for granted that they'd re-elected in the seats that they already had, and lo and behold, a whole shitload of them were defeated because of it.

This whole election this time around was definitely something that many Canadians did not want to have to deal with, and as such, it was pretty obvious that whoever they felt was at fault for forcing it upon us (the opposition, but mostly the Liberals and Bloc) was going to pay the price.

Ingatieff and Duceppe both losing their seats =

Elizabeth May actually winning her seat = :disappoin (only because now it's REALLY going to be tough to shut her up; plus it means that when the next election happens in 4-5 years, she actually WILL be invited to participate in the Leader's debate).

I kinda feel bad about Iggy, I thought he was a likeable guy in his kind, a bit stiff, a bit out of his depth but not an unpleasent fella ya know? I expect him to be back in Harvard or something. I think Bob Rae should make a play for leadership, he's failed twice and I think his time is now.

Duceppe resigning was not surprising in itself but that was pretty quick. Graceful exit for him. It will be intereting to see if he will jump to provincial level and displace Marois... the PQ is infamous for its internal conflicts so it wouldn't be surprising.

I'm so GLAD Josée Verner is out. God she was infuriating! She never did anything but apologize for Ottawa! Not that I have much faith in any of the Torie Ministers.

Also what's with Harper's 'making Canada safer' rethoric? He acts like crime is a huge problem and on the rise... Canada IS safer. Its been getting safer for the last decade. Crime has been going down not up.

You didn't go to vote?!

Well you just surrendered your right to complain about government.

Don't be a bonehead, VOTE!!

I don't complain about the government.

What kicks my ass is how viscious people get when someone doesn't vote.

I don't follow politics.

Like it's been said previously, it isn't necessarily about people not voting (at least for me it isn't), rather it's more about people who don't vote, yet who continually whine and bitch about the government. It's like what I tell the students I work with, if you're not getting involved by exercising your RIGHT to vote, if you're not trying to make a difference by taking part in the process, then you LOSE your right to complain.

Nobody loses any right of anything, this isn't jail.

I agree with what you are saying though. People who don't vote and complain are just fucking idiots.

I'm too much of a laid back person to give a **** and to complain. I hate complainers (cry baby pussy fucks).

"Men died on the beaches so you could vote!"

Don't forget half the Middle-East is in a frenzy to get the right to vote and you enjoy it but don't exercice that right!
