Not much love for Drive?

It's not about competence in the sense of usefulness, it's about how they act. Pretty much every counter-example given in this thread was about how they act rather than what they're capable of.

So the only way a child will understand the difference is if the police act like sheer morons? Really?

Another strawman.

Not a single policeman in the show has acted like a sheer moron. The one-offs who insulted the SCU were being condescending skeptics (for one 10-second scene in one episode) and everyone in the SCU has had their moments of clarity.

What's with the superlative? You people act as if you're impressively intelligent.

There's no need for ad hominims.

Plus we've established that you haven't even seen shows like Kuuga and thus can't even understand what it is people like us are criticizing about police in current Rider.

Why should I have to see Kuuga to try to discuss Drive? That's another ridiculous argument.

I've seen worse police characterization in adult detective j-dramas. Does that make my experience any less important than those who compare it with Kuuga? No, it doesn't. But I don't bring up that comparison (well, except now), because it's entirely irrelevant.

I'm sorry for the ad hominem. I didn't know how to respond to the absurd hyperbole.

To be fair, they were right that the previous incidents weren't caused by a Roidmude in that case. Of course, it was indirectly connected to them anyway otherwise there'd be no story, but it's not hard to believe that there are other incidents said to be Roidmude related that turn out to be nothing.

And, really, although it was taken more seriously, Agito's police was pretty stupid too outside of the G3 unit, constantly getting in their way and favoring outside people with little reason. Also, unlike in Kuuga, they never actually expanded the unknown fighting to the entire force and seemed to always rely on the G3 unit for everything. Which makes no sense considering how the G3 unit was otherwise treated.

Kuuga had a great police force, but it's pretty much a singular exception, it was never the norm.

Maybe so. But they were a lot less cartoony about it, and thus much less irritating. Plus they didn't make me wonder how they even graduated from school, much less police academy.

The issue of them being cartoony isn't really specific to the police though. Drive overall is a much more cartoony show than Agito. Just compare the mostly silent battles back then with the banter often going on during Drive's battles.

^ But Drive isn't the only show since Agito to heavily feature cops. W and Wizard both had them, and outside of Accel neither of those shows portrayed them in a very flattering way.
