NBA 2012/13 Season Discussion Thread

Man...So much hate for D'Antoni here LOL.

As for J-Lin...he's down to a more decent and more respectable 12 Points (previously 14) and 6 assists per game. Not a bad stat line, but it could be better. I doubt we'll see him get 16 or more points now that Harden is in the same backcourt. Hopefully he can fix the turnover problem. Pick-and-rolls with Lin for a layup, or a kickout to Harden for a 3? Man...that sounds really delicious.

So can someone explain to me why the Knicks are doing pretty good this year? And they are getting outrebounded in every game. How are they doing it? They have probably the oldest roster in the league too. Have a bunch of veterans on the team and Jason Kidd is their starting SG. Shooting Guard! Not Point Guard! I used to think that to win a Title, you have to get younger. The Knicks went the other route. They are looking smart right now to not keep Jeremy Lin too. Lin has been struggling big time this year. He has no jump shot. :(

To all the Lakers fans that were optimistic that D'Antoni would "change his ways" and be able to adapt his system to the Lakers squad he has on the floor IN ORDER TO WIN GAMES, I only have one thing to say..........

I
TOLD
YOU
SO

Mike D'Antoni record with Knicks: 121 - 194 (38% wins)
Post-D'Antoni record for Knicks: 30 - 10 (75% wins)

Mike D'Antoni record with Lakers: 3 - 5 (38% wins)

You better hope Nash saves the Lakers when he returns b/c this is how it is like with D'Antoni when you don't have a star PG (or Steve Nash period).........

Knicks are doing well which is a surprise. Lakers arent which makes me happy. Golden State and Brooklyn are also surprises to me. Even though they improved their rosters, they've both been mediocre teams. But it is still early in the season.

Wow, the Knicks beat the Heat on the road. That's something you don't see often. This year's Knicks team has been very impressive to watch. I have to admit that. They can shoot three's and have been playing good defense. I first criticized them when they signed Raymond Felton who looked out of shape but has been playing great ball lately. He seems to fit more with the than Jeremy Lin and Lin is really struggling in Houston now. So that sucks. Jason Kidd has worked out well so far too. What a difference a Coach makes. Mike D'antoni is now the Lakers problem to overcome. Along with Dwight Howard's inability to hit free-throws. Lol...

Seems like our boy J-Lin isn't that good yet, though he did wow us to his potential back in NYK. McHale should prolly just move him to the bench...though....he's prolly better than the backup, so...Lin should keep on trying to improve that Jumpshot. He's young. It'll come

He's losing minutes to a guy that was HIS BACKUP in New York last season...........the same guy that lost his playing time last season to Jeremy Lin after he started building bricks all over Madison Square Garden.

How do you, Jeremy Lin, suddenly start regressing to the point where TONEY DOUGLAS is outplaying you?

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WNYanP_-Dk"]Lin is getting outplayed by THIS GUY.....who got his shot blocked by a smaller midget[/ame]

I hate to admit it, since I like rooting for the underdogs, but I kinda have to agree with you on Jeremy Lin, big_j_ny. Lin has been exposed here in Houston. Maybe it's the pressure of being one of the franchise guys along with James Harden (who is also struggling to be the man as well), but....his points production are down from that small sample in NYK, and his turnover problems have not gone away, which must be why he's losing minutes to Toney Douglas.

Anyway, the Clippers are just rolling right now. Sure they need to work on their defense and defensive focus, but...MAAAN~! The bench is practically like a second starting unit. It's crazy. Definitely one of the deepest benches in the league, if not the deepest. Though Gregg Popovich would probably disagree with me LOL.

Anyway....about the Lakers, I really think that their recent struggles have to do with how poorly constructed the team is. Sure there's the weak bench, but the Starting Lineup, to me, is a patchwork of players brought in for their individual talents, but those talents aren't quite lining up well. That, and they bring in coach D'Antoni because of his familiarity and success in running the run and gun offense with Nash. However, they'll be doing this with aging legs, and I don't think it will work. Metta World Peace? Dwight Howard? Pau Gasol? I'd dare say they operate best in a half-court set than in the transition.

I mean, sure we have yet to see the team in full strength, which contributes to their slide, with Nash and Gasol out, but I think they should give up on one of their two bigs. I prefer they keep Gasol, as he has a more refined post game and can shoot free throws better than Howard, but since Howard has been slated as the new franchise guy after Kobe, find a 4-ward that could shoot outside the paint, so that Howard can be firmly planted under the basket. Also, at the end of the season, Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak, especially Jim Buss, should come to Dr. Phil's door with a gift basket and a heartfelt apology, and beg him to come back to the Lakers for at least one last run for the title with Kobe (6th for Kobe, 12th for Dr. Phil's other big toe). After that continue to break up the roster and go into a rebuilding mode for the team so they can pick high in the draft for a new secondary franchise guy, assuming that Howard will stay long term for the purple and gold.

Expecting the Lakers to win a championship with this patchwork of a starting roster, especially after seeing their body of work so far, seems unrealistic, IMO.
