What's so special about this show that it has such a large cult following? (I'm not trying to be an ass, i'm just curious why a "My Little Pony" is so successful)

It's because the show has such a bubbly and breezy attitude to life, there's nothing too cynical or dark about it, which are traits that dominate most animated series today, it's a nice departure from the norm, the charaters are strong-minded, caring, positive

The comedy also often goes right above the kids heads and be appreciated more by adults.

That's not to say this fandom doesnt have it's disturbing side...
