Metroid Other M (spoilers) Reviews

I'll grant that, but not in this extreme and not after what she's been through. Omega Ridley anyone? that version was scary as **** and here comes purple ridley (who is fabulous) and suddenly she shits bricks.

It wasn't so much his form that triggered her PTSD, more like his existance to being with at this point in the timeline. Most of the time she has defeated Ridely, there has been a body and the space pirates to bring him back to reign more terror, or he simply escaped. This is how it was with Metroid-Metroid Prime 3 (Again in a time line sense.)

Super Metroid however, the whole planet housing the remainder of the Space Pirate forces and Ridley's body was destroyed. This was alluded to in the beginning of Other M. He was finally gone, for realz this time. But then obvious, the Federation needed Bio-weapons, and with the biological material they kinda went ahead and "Acquired" from samus, foolishly made a Ridley clone.

So now, in a rain of fire and brimstone, her childhood nightmare has come back from what should have been his final death to continue tormenting her. It seemed very appropriate to me, Hell I probably would of been offended if she had reacted in a lesser of a way.

One thing people should also know is the reason why her ptsd has never been shown in the other games, because it didn't exist then until 2004 when the manga came out with her back story. With metroid prime being made by an American developer they probably never saw the manga so they never knew the back story. So really other m is only game working with the backstory in mind.

I finally played this yesterday after hearing about what a trainwreck it is. I LOVE trainwrecks and from what I'd heard, I was in for a doozy!

...screw the story. This game is boring. Maybe my mistake was going into this as someone who likes the Ninja Gaiden games and plays regular rounds of Bayonetta for fun but holy hell.

For 2 hours, whenever Samus entered a room, all I had to do was jam on (or occasionally hold) the 1 Button and D-Pad, and Samus would just flip out, auto-home in on all the weak stuff and auto-dodge/perform finishers on all the strong stuff. I didn't have to actually think about anything to win. The only time I had trouble was when the game forced me to go into first-person stationary gun turret mode, which my God I don't think they could have implemented any more awkwardly than they did. Shaking the Wii Remote like you're having a seizure in mid-battle will let you auto-dodge as well.

Oh, and the secret items show up with BRIGHT HAPPY BLUE LIGHTS. In a Metroid game. What.

It was like watching a formulaic action movie so I could make my way to the next (worse) drama movie. Suffice to say, I fell asleep. I ain't trying that game again.

EDIT: And there isn't even any music. Why does a Metroid game have moody near-silence instead of music. That's the other reason I fell asleep.

Sakamoto... time to go. An excellently written and wonderfully detailed article. Worth the very long read. It impressed and surprised me with a ton of details I never knew about. Metroid series may have indeed been ruined beyond repair.

So I got a chance to really play this game. It just sucks. Aside from Samus being a large pussy in this game, the entire way they locked down her gear is just stupid. The new Other M review in GI is exactly how I feel about it.

Oh yeah, that guy. He tends to say very smart things a lot of the time but he's an utter ass about it just as often. I miss his first articles when he was more educational but less vindictive. It's been fun watching him explode all over Other M, though. :) And he's spot on here, too. For the most part.
Then again, no science fiction game is popular with girls.
Yeeeeeeeeeeah, cause Mass Effect don't exist or nothin'. :)
