.........................................my God, this was incredible.

I honestly have never seen the war from the Japanese perspective. Any and everytime I've seen 'em, they were vicious, even, uncaring and monsters basically.

But this... this movie showed their struggle to hold onto a land they held sacred and it was both moving and incredibel.

I liked it much more than the American perspective of Flags of Our Fathers.

Did anyone else see this and is it just me, or did the lead character in this look like he could've been a close relative of Kagami Arata?

own it on DVD. i dont mean to push steriotypes but i sware there were atleast SOME ex-toku actors in that movie.

^ THAT was an amazing movie. The story...just so heartwrenching. Didn't matter that it was anime, it was a completely serious interpretation of that time period.

I can see it happening. I hear it's on anothe level of brilliance. But all the saddness I hear about it is pretty fucking intimidating.

Speaking of brilliance, Clint Eastwood must have been glowing and floating in the air to've directed Letter From Iwo Jima. O___O

If you want another story that tells the war from the Japanese perspective, pick up the manga Barefoot Gen. It is a firsthand account of what was happening to the people of Japan during WWII, and it centers around a poor family fom Hiroshima who are constantly singled out for their negative opinions of the war.

We were asked to read it for my Contemporary Japanese Culture class, and I really enjoyed it.

Good story but keep in mind the japnese weren't like the "Reluctent member of the Axis" or anything....they did some pretty brutal and nasty Shee-it during WWII too.
