Eiji becoming a Greeed wasn't really a drag. It was a gradual change, I'd say that's what made it that much more of an impact.

There's a big difference between Greeed and Phantoms, though, mainly that while Eiji was just trying not to become a Greeed, there is an actual, separate entity that is Haruto's Phantom that would logically take over were he to ever give in to despair.

Yeah well since Haruto was able to overcome the despair of his parents' deaths... maybe he might fall under despair if something happens to Koyomi and how the White Wizard used him for his own gain.

I thought the (original) implication was, at least before he started getting buddy buddy with Dragon, that being Wizard and everything else has him constantly on the brink of despair anyway. It was sort of an homage to old Showa style angst, I thought.

I think they just got lazy and dropped that point. I hope it isn't the case that that is still the plan but a horrible sense of pacing is going to make it come out of left field.

Let's face it. The answer to the mysteries have been so obvious.

The eclipse was created by the Hyper Zecter. White Wizard is actually Tendou Souji. The reason that he could use the Teleport Ring is because it has the Hyper Clock Up abilities added into it.

I do have a different theory if you lot don't mind (and even if you do).

The movie is an AR world, the villian is using the same belt as the white wizard; same guy, different path in life. It's an AR universe, so that would seem logical.

And Toei trying new things with wizard? Theme wise; maybe, story wise; playing it safe: all standard tropes...
