Kamen Rider Wizard, Ep 3 - "Transform! Live Broadcast"

He is Long. And probably will be a lesser version of Hojo, because let's face it. No one is the spectacular asshole (But awesome character) that Hojo was.

I prefer Over-Time. They make Tv-Nihon's subs look like they came from China. And they're faster.

And look, we're back to 2 episode arcs! Now you can quit complaining! And I love how we called Hell hound building up Shunpei for despair! Yess!:castlerock:

- Haruto is skinny as hell, when he's not wearing the coat he looks like he's not been fed properly. Still I like the kind of aura he has, a balance between kindness + seriousness.

- I like how Wizard sometimes uses the Sword like Kabuto Kunai-gun-style.

- Who cares about crap CGI when you get an epic kick that doesn't involved a drill on your left leg.

- Like the twist there, thought the chief officer would definitely be Hellhound considering the actor tweeted something about it. This means we will get more police involvement in the future. Nice!

- Thumbs up to those flashbacks, I like the way we're being fed little by little every week.

- What does Haruto do for a living? Surely he needs to earn something, and would be doing something before the ritual? Even Tsukussa had being a photographer as an excuse.

- Shunpei acts like a 6-year old, but hopefully he'll get better after this arc.

- Still think Rinko is extremely hot, Koyomi as well but she's going the cute route. Koyomi's more like a Kengo at the start but doesn't show the negative emotions that much.

Well, isn't he supposed to look a little ... destitute? And a lot of Japanese actors are very skinny

Maybe he's just a drifter like Eiji. Since he apparently lives rent-free at Wajima's shop, he doesn't really need to earn money at the moment. In the flashback last week to the aftermath of the solar ritual, you could see that his clothes had been pretty beat up even before they got ruined

I'm glad they let her be that way instead of having to be cute and girlie all the time. She takes no crap from Haruto or anyone else and she does the best death glares. I can't wait to see more of her next week

As for OT and TVN, it's more like OT is what a professional subbing group would actually subtitle things and TVN is if a fan subbing group full of weaboos decided to translate everything literally.OT takes liberties with their subs where the speech seems realistic and fluent while TVN just translates each sentence word by word, no matter how strange it sounds.

Insulting others based on their tastes is simply immature. You are free to dislike something, but that does not make it inherently bad or worse than something else.

There are two forms of subtitling, Dynamic Equivalence (Liberal Translating) and Formal Equivalence (Literal Translating). With literal translating, you sacrifice readability for accuracy and accuracy for readability for liberal translating. Neither is wrong and whichever one prefers is up to the individual, as I said. A host of other factors need to be taken into account as well, such as the translator's personal preferences, the source material, the target audience, etc...

Personally speaking, I find myself favoring the literal form of translating. For me, modifying the original source material is a no-no, regardless of the show or language.

I’m not sure about the translation policies of others, but if I were to translate something, I would want to present the media to the viewer as close to the original as possible.

Here's a (non-Kamen Rider) example: In episode 2 of the recent Anime Nyaruko, she said “無駄無駄無駄無駄!”, but one group translated it as “That won’t work on me!”. Same meaning, surely, but it’s essentially different from what she said in Japanese. The new line might sound more fluid in English, but why won’t translating it as ‘Useless, useless, useless, useless!” work as well?

She’s fighting, and such a battle cry wouldn’t be unimaginable or unintelligible in English. (Not to mention, it’s a famous catchphrase from JoJo’s…) I mean, personally, I think such liberties are unnecessary if the original Japanese phrase can be translated into English directly and still work perfectly.

Of course, I’m not saying that translations should be word for word, and sometimes liberties are necessary to avoid awkward phrasing, but some effort must be made to at least bring across what was said in the original Japanese script…

To me, that should be the goal of a translator, to allow someone to enjoy a media product for what it is, and not add your own spin to it. Otherwise, the audience is enjoying something YOU wrote and not the product itself.

But in the end, that’s just my opinion. You guys are also entitled to your opinions (...and at least be civil) and I guess it is up to the individual translator/editor to make the call.

Well to me the O-T lines feel more fluid to read. But the fact that the editor they have on Wizard is posting translation comments regarding the episode gives a bit more understanding.

And wouldn't you agree that the localized translation present English viewers with the same experience without sacrificing things?

>Once again referring the Kijima/Cancer and his many puns and their O-T translation, specificically Gentarou's joke in Meteor Storms debut.

Not going too in-depth with the other jokes, except that one Gen made: if you had a friend named Yuu, and a friend named Jou, and they got together, then that’d result into the ultimate yuujou (friendship). Turning it into a gardening joke seemed like the sanest way to do it without straying too far away from the “terrible pun on the word friendship” idea.
