Kamen Rider Wizard, Ep 1 - "The Wizard Uses Rings"

It'd be the coolest thing ever if the secondary Rider is a female, even better if Rinko is that Rider. She's so damn gorgeous!

Sadly unless it's a whore driver that used a lot by a male characters and doesn't really look female in design, it's not going to work. How are you going to sell girls belt to little boys?

Over-time translates Medusa's speech as the Wiseman obtaining a "Sabbat". Tv-Nihon translates it as "Sabbath". Which is the actual word, or closest to it?

They're variant spellings of the same word, with closely related meanings. They differ largely in connotation, and either would be a correct translation. OT opted for the "sabbat" spelling because they felt it had more pagan/magical connotations. You could really do either, though.

Pretty sure this is why female Riders tend to be movie-only, yeah.

After hearing the cleaned-up version of the OP, I think it's growing on me. It's not quite as ... catchy? energetic? as the last three years' worth of Rider themes, but it's fun and fits the show. The start still reminds me of "Treasure Sniper" though

I think I will stick to O-T's subs this year as I have an irrational dread of the word "mage" outside of the context of LOTR knock-offs or an RPG

Let's not get ahead of ourselves now.

Yeah that irked me. It's just so weird to see mage when in the show he's clearly a wizard. I think that's a case where TVN is being too literal again.

I can understand why they might want to differentiate between his Rider name of "Wizard" in English, and being described as mahoutsukai in Japanese. But even then, couldn't they have gone with ... magician? Sorcerer?

I know what you mean. The first time I watched it, I didn't even realise it was meant to be the theme tune; I thought it was just the background battle music  But I heard the cleaned up version this morning before work and I've been humming it to myself all day.

I just watched the TV-Nihon version. It's the usual O-T vs TV-N differences. Over-Time has a more natural voice, while TV Nihon keeps the Japanese word order as much as possible, to the point where occasionally I'm not sure what the sentence means. On the other hand, TV-Nihon pick up on some words that the O-T version skips over, doesn't pretend the word "sempai" is a person's name (sorry, pet hate - it's just not a translatable word - throw it in and make the newbies read the wikipedia page) and doesn't ignore or alter English words/phrases (from both characters or the belt). The only difference is that TV-N's love-it-or-loath-it animated fonts don't seem as high a quality this time around. Not a fan of the drawn ring-symbols.

Mage or Magician doesn't both me so much. It does feel a bit odd to read "mage" but that's because I'm also working my way through TV-N's Magiranger subs, which consistently translate 'mahou' as magic, so magician seems more obvious given that I can hear that character saying 'mahou' in their sentence.

I would love a female Rider for this series, even though she'd probably be movie-only. Nadeshiko seems to have been a hit so I'm hoping Wizard will get a female Rider in a future movie
