Kamen Rider OOO - Talk Up!

Eiji reminds me a lot, I mean a lot, of Godai from Kuuga. To the point where, for now, I'm inclined to regard Eiji as essentially Kobayashi's take on Godai. There's even some points where O's first episode follows the basic beats of Kuuga's and Eiji's motivation is much the same.
Oh good, I wanted to say this, but I didn't want everybody going all "Kuuga was GODtier on me" or something.

Yes, I feel like Eiji is very similar to Godai, or if Godai's character was written by Kobayashi.

I see Eiji being somewhere between Godai and Shinji.
Either way, I like OOO's for now. I can see where the Den-O parts are coming from but it's not as much as all the "Den-OOO" mad people are saying. It's got it's comedy there and it also has it's creepy and serious factors. I don't think this'll be another Den-O or things being thrown at a wall run but simply something that can only be represented by the colourful shirt Eiji wears.

Heh, well I'll put it this way, I can see where people are getting the similarity at least based on what little we have seen so far. It is highly possible Kobayashi is aiming at that kind of vibe with his character.

Hitting the mark, well that is another question.

The way Eiji tried to protect Ankh and save the cop ("Keiji-san!!!!") reminded of Kuuga so much. Especially during the second episode where Godai just rushes in a fights Gooma head on in Growing Form.

Hell, even by saying "Keiji-san"! gives me Odagiri vibes...

Even the Den-O fanboy agrees with me............ladies and gentlemen, I've made my point

Since I don't quite know you're opinion on the matter, I'd say that's coincidental.

expanding on my own point, the similar things people have said don't register that way to me. To start, it's not fair to compare Ryotaro and Eiji. Ryotaro was a simply unlucky guy just trying to go about his life and take care of his sister, while Eiji is a wanderer trying to live to see tomorrow with priorities that seem almost too simple. I can't say I find Greeed to be that similar to Imagin. Imagin do something for their contract holder and in return get to wreak havoc, while Greed just use people to create Yummy and then those people are never seen from again. Ankh especially doesn't compare, because none of the Taros ever tried to use Ryotaro to further a goal, they just tried to make the best of their situation beig stuck with him. As Riders, I really believe Den-O and OOO are more distinct then people say. The Den-O system and Rider Pass was a very freehand deal, wherein the Pass activated the belt and there was room for improvised poses, while OOO has a very linear deal with little room for improvisation. The systems themselves also don't compare. Den-O worked on a single set of armor that reconfigured itself for each form, While OOO is sectioned into parts that change one at a time.

Does anyone know who is the voice actor for Ankh in hand form? Or is he voiced by the same guy that plays Shingo Izumi?

It's really hard to tell, but I'd say it's a fairly processed Ryosuke Miura (Shingo). It sounds a little like Eitoku but it's reeeally hard to tell.

FINALLY. Back from PAX and back in the saddle. Watched OOOs yesterday with some Rider-loving friends; some who like Den-O, some who don't. Haven't ready any comments here since I just woke up.

Verdict, though?

...we like it!

All of us were pretty scared, but the theme song rocks, the suit and form changes don't look all that bad in motion, the belt... ehhhhhhh. I'm only partly feeling the belt, which makes me sad that I already got roped into buying it by accident. But whatever. It's okay.

As far as characters go, Hina already looks like she can be used as more than just background eye candy, and while I love Ryotarou to bits, all of us are pretty much calling Eiji "Ryoutarou done right." The potential for character development in terms of having a slacker Rider is intriguing as all hell--here's hoping Kobayashi is up to the task.

None of us are drooling over it or anything, and the show could certainly go off the rails, but most of us still miss W and I still miss the hell out of Decade, so being able to attach ourselves so far to this new guy and show is a very good sign.

Also, the River City Ransom monster deaths don't hurt. :)

This really IS New New Den-O though. I mean, I was mostly joking before the ep aired, but damn, they don't even try to hide it. The Greed, Momo!Ankh, the possession bits, the grabbing monsters out of people, the Owner-esque birthday cake dude... yeah. They're trying to make lightning strike twice, which is really hard to do. At least it appears that the Greeds and OOOs have a far more sinister origin behind them.

You've got to admit, the Den-O formula is in full effect. The Greeds are color-coded, wacky side-characters with arbitrary superpowers and food-related personal tics, an utterly hapless protagonist, and a greedy "assistant monster" that possessed people and just wants his own way.

I don't think this is accidental, either. Kobayashi knew what she was doing when she created the Den-O formula. I believe she knows what she's doing when she repeats it but tones down the silliness.

I would point out Kobayashi did Ryuki. There is range. I can see similarities based on the comedy aspect. But what people are saying are Den-O tropes are actually very common factors in plenty of shows. Demon side kick, hapless lead (although I don't think he's hapless just lackedasical...and I don't think Ryotarou is hapless either come to think of it) etc. And I wouldn't refer to the Greeed as "wacky". Less than five minutes in they slaughtered a platoon...so so wacky.
