Kamen Rider OOO Rumor/Picture Thread

Okay, watched the first episode. Since other people will be waiting on subs I'm gonna hide my observations.

[HIDE]I liked Eiji well enough. He's a solid Rider hero. He's not very distinct at this point-- in fact, he's almost exactly a watered-down Godai Yuusuke-- but we've done far worse in Rider.

I enjoyed the stuff with Ankh. He's definitely being pitched as the show's Momotaros, but he's got a lot of personality for a disembodied hand and the suit acting for him is great.

I don't know what to make of Ankh-guy's sister. If there's a good reason for her being super-strong, I could maybe get to like her. If she ever accomplishes anything of note in the show, I could maybe get to like her. As it stands, her Vending-machine lifting antics in this episode bode ill.

I detest almost everything about the Kougami Foundation. I hate the cake-baking asshole with every fiber of my being. I hate the Candroids. I hate the army of Ride Vendors more than I previously hated the single Ride Vendor we knew about.

I kind of like the Greeds. They're interesting suits and I like the way they're shot. They're gimmicky characters, yeah, but we've done far worse as far as villains go in Rider. I liked a lot of the effects shots with tons of Cell Medals coming together to form physical bodies.

OOOs himself is... boring, I've gotta say. His belt is boring besides the startlingly odd singing sequence, his fighting style was pretty boring, the form-switching was boring, I think you see where I'm going with this. If not for all the insanity happening around him, he'd be Kamen Rider Bland.

The Yummys suck if the Mantis guy is anything to go by. The coins exploding out of them at every hit is too ridiculous to be part of even a melodramatic fight scene. Scott Pilgrim employed it as an element of abject comedy for a good reason.

The way they're made sucks, too. Okay, you pop a Cell Medal in a human and out pops a Yummy made out of their desire... but the Yummy doesn't look like that person and doesn't appear to harm that person in any way. Instead the Yummy completes its form by eating the person's desire, after getting a taste of what that person desires. So that's why the Mantis has to complete his form by eating jewelry, that's implicitly what the woman desired.

But... uh, why is he a Mantis, still? If he's just going to be a Mantis monster no matter what, why are you including all of this stupid crap about having to eat the human's desire? Because the human isn't even a host, they just give birth to the Yummy. You could just cut that entire step out and the Yummys would be functionally identical.

They're clearly manifestation of their parent Greed's desire, not the specific human's-- or the Yummy would've been, like a weird, jewelry Yummy instead of Mantis. The Mantis was clearly a Mantis because the bug Greed created him. This makes the entire song and dance required to get the Mantis to being a Mantis feel really damn tedious and pointless. This will only get worse as the series progresses, provided there's no big Yummy complication revealed in episode 2.

Episode 2 looks like it will be our first Giant CGI Monster battle of the show and the introduction of the (sigh) cosplay cafe. If the cosplay cafe comes off anywhere near as poorly as the Kougami Foundation did, that might be a deal-breaker for me. For now, I'm curious enough about Ankh and the Greeds that I'll watch next week's episode. I can't say I found OOO's first episode actively good, though-- it was more just not bad.[/HIDE]

It's because the Greeed who summoned him is of the insect variety. It makes sense, actually.

I like how the coins burst out of the yummy. The host human's desire is their lifeblood, so the yummy consumes their objects of desire to evolve. See the scene where there are tons of coins piling up in the middle of the yummy's feeding scene? Yeah, the objects of desire is converted into Cell Medals, that make up the yummy's evolved body.

And I have no idea why some of you guys dislike the OP, it's a definite earworm for me. xD

If anything, I am reminded of Kabuto. The Worms evolving, the generic soldier-types with standard issue weapons.

It doesn't make sense to shoot all that footage of the human and have the Yummy eat jewels to get its final form if that form is going to be dictated by the parent Greed's genus. If the Greed dictates the final form, really, the Greed should just be able to pop a Cell Medal into a human's head and just turn that human into the Yummy.

That would be much less tedious. I don't want to see the stupid Yummy eat the stupid jewels unless eating the jewels changes its final form somehow. Since it makes no difference what human desire generates the Yummy, I feel I have to consider all the stuff involving the Yummy's human parent as no more than padding.

Yeah, the objects of desire is converted into Cell Medals, that make up the yummy's evolved body.

Yes, and that's stupid. We saw the Yummy "eat" a few tiny handfuls of jewels, which somehow converted into the huge mass of coins comprising its body? No, that's ridiculous. There's pure dream-logic magic at work there. The Yummy's body is made out of coins because a Cell Medal made it.

We saw the Yummy eat the jewels to communicate to the audience that the human parent was a woman who desired the jewels in the jewelry store. If her desire for jewels changed the Yummy somehow, it would make sense to spend camera time on that.

The Yummy's form is apparently dictated by the Greed, though, so why is the camera pointed at the human any longer than necessary? She wasn't interesting. The Yummy clearly drew no particular power from eating jewels; he probably could've eaten carpet had the woman desired carpet and turned out exactly the same.

Its body could be made out of Cell Medals without having to make me sit through the dumb irrelevant eating scene, is my point. It's like the dumb "okay the Imajin's gotta find the thing the human desires" sequences in Den-O, only worse in every conceivable way. At least what the human wanted in Den-O had some actual bearing on what the Imajin was going to do!

The eating scenes will only appear a few times, it's like Rider Henshin sequences, it's really detailed early on and after a few episodes they don't show the same amount.

It's like Xtreme, the first few times they a spent a couple of scenes on it, and later on it became a quick thing.

So... basically, you expected something but what you got was something completely different so you're now bitching and moaning about it?

Seriously, chill out. You clearly expected logic on a show that readily throws all sorts of it out the window in a split-second. A show that was written by the guy(or girl?) behind Den-O, nonetheless.

*hands Lynx a candroid of soda*

So you're attempting to invalidate my complaint about OOO's writing being stupid by... claiming that OOO's writing is stupid?

Why, yes, you're absolutely right! I'm glad you could see things my way.

I wouldn't call that invalidating though.
